If there is sufficient petrol in the tank the petrol will gravity feed through the pump hence DBFs experience when removing the line to the carb.

I may have mentioned Montesa many pages ago.
Just to clarify the initial point I was making was the WTC is no longer influencing sales and if its not, from the manufacturers point of view, why incur the expense ?
The BTC has had rules and sections similar to the WTC since 2005 at the moment the objection to no stop seems to be that UK riders will not be able to compete at WTC level because they are riding different rules at BTC from next year. As much as I admire our top British riders I dont think going no stop will make a british world round winner in 2012 any less likely. Its not that long ago one of our top riders rode a world round and fived every single section. Under a no stop BTC how much worse would that rider of done ? Not getting at the rider in question, he is a fantastic rider but he didnt look like one that day.
I'm not sure what rules our well meaning contributors from the states run but who was the last American WTC round winner in the top class, Bernie ? So again if the USA went no stop how much more unlikely is an american world round win in 2012 ? It doesnt matter what rules you run guys the WTC is too hard and this prevents even a resonable number of entries.
We have had references to various other sports and the organisers of these sports not seeking to limit the skills of those at the top of the sport. Tennis doesnt need to limit Nadal, FIFA dont need to limit Messi because in both cases the organisers are not seeing a shortage of entries. If there were six entries for Wimbledon or the World Cup then something would be changed.
Others think they wont be able to ride stop permitted in local trials. You still can but the issue even at centre level now is that the top course attracts by far the fewest entries. So for all the valid arguements, complaints and in some cases ranting rubbish (dont refer to the ACU in those terms again please) I'd like to go back to the problem as it stands.
Not enough people want to ride the current WTC/BTC/Hard Course. Happy to listen to any other ideas on fixing this. I do realise that our current top two may not ride next year. The views we need are from the people the change in rules is aiming to attract to the championship course, does it make them any more likely to compete ?
For the last 16 years at BTC level the Champ route has catered for the very best but fewer and fewer people seem to want to play the game. Bear in mind in a recent BTC round a supported rider lost 153 marks in 36 sections, thats an average of 4.25 marks per section. Is he a better rider for this experience ? Did the man and his dog spectating enjoy watching this performance ? Will this rider even enter a World Round on the champ route next year ? The 4th placed finisher lost 127, an average of 3.5marks per section. Again I mean no disrespect to the riders but they are not going to step up to a higher level of severity are they ?
No stop is being tried in an attempt to reduce the gulf in the abilities of riders, please lets just try it. What have we really got to lose ?

Seth your confusing two or three different types of JCM.
The 323 was a Tau engine as riddden by Charles Coutard, Joel Descuns, Benard Cordonnier and John Reynolds. This bike was tested by Birks for TMX but he never rode one other than that as he was on the Yam at the time which was light years ahead. There was also a 250cc version of this bike. This is the original JCM factory, their last bike had the tank under the seat and its best result was 3rd in the 86 French WTC tround in the hands of Pascal Cotourier. As a mono it as first ridden by Coutard and Descuns in the world rounds in 83, Descuns rode the SSDT in 84 on one.
None of these models were imported prior to June / July 1984, your bike will have been made in 83 but at that point there was no importer so its either been brought into the country by an individual or its been old stock when supplied by JCM.
This JCM concern went bust late 86 / early 87 but a new JCM company was launched and Tony Scarlett signed for them and rode that bike, called a Viga for two years, this was similar to the last bike Cotourier had but with a Gas Gas air cooled engine which I think was based on Moto Villa MX bike.
The next JCM incarnation was the Striet JCM, this was the bike ridden by Birks and imported by Bob Gollner and I suspect was another different company from the one Scarlett rode for.
JCM had their bike out in public in the WTC in 83, Bikrs first rode the Yam competitively in Aug 83 I think at the Hillsborough as it was then. The Beta TR32 came out early in 84 but again wasnt as good as the Yam.

DBF unscrew the filler cap then see if it starts
-
guessing
I think dbf mentioned he had a new style sherco previously
-
Rosey
I'll check with Roger if his is 262 or 250, if its 250 I doubt porting whould have made a huge difference so i'd think probably the carb.
Herbie
David Page did ride that bike at a centre trial in the lake district. After the trial he thought the bike was pretty good as he had cleaned every section he would have thought you needed a 270 for. Shirty and birks have also built short stroke 250's not sue what the actual cc was ? David Pages bike had the barrel base skimmed to compensate for the shorter crank. The top of the crankcase on the clutch side had to be filed to give enough cleareance on the carb bowl.
in a strange coincidence Roger Williams bought a short stroke air cooled Yam with a modified linkage off Ernie Page and rode it for about a year. Probably the same bike ?

or to put it another way
please tell me after sixteen years of the BTC in its current format which of our current WTC competitors, not junior or youth, is likely to win a world round any time soon?
-
2010 sherco dbf ?
try the breather to the tank under the mudguard, it has a one way valve which can get stuck.
-
Laser 1 I think we are in danger of losing the topic but agree Montesas approach is strange.

-
WRONG
if montesa made a copy of Bous bike they wouldnt sell any, nobody could afford to buy it. In 2007 the UK importer claimed the factory bike cost
-
Its harder to correct your line without stopping
If less than 10 people wish to ride at the current level of severity why not reduce it. In case you havent noticed the WTC and the BTC need more entries, its not just about club trials.
we all heard the "lets make it professional / TV friendly and watch those advertising

Best way to develop an air cooled yam is actually to sell yours and buy the one Roger Williams rode in the SSDT this year.
I rode it in a club trial recently, although it feels top heavy compared to a modern bike once you adjust to this its fantastic to ride.
Capacity may be 262 as birks did the motor, Roger then fitted a Keihin PWK 28 carb, this thing revs to the moon but still has torque. It has the std air filter box. Roger also got Ohlins to build a shock, rear suspension is as good as anything else I have ridden. Footrests are lower and look further back and the bike has a tubeless rim. Finally Birks made a shirty style tail pipe.
I dread to think what it cost but it is superb.

If the top three in my view being Dabill, Brown and Wigg, went to Italy or spain instead you could then reduce the severity enough on the champ route to allow the winner to drop 20 - 30 and then the current expert A riders can join the champioship route.
Camberman are you based in the uk ?
-
Shut up Dicky
With the no stop debate in full swing hopefuly nobody will notice this.....
see Kevin Dignan on there as well
Steve Thackery, Eddie Aitken and Alistair Dalton still ride but theres a few North East names on there who we dont see anymore.

Wake up !
Trials is an amateur sport for 99.9% of participants
The world championship has nothing to do with bike sales, the 4rt is not the best selling bike is it ? In fact Honda / Montesa had so many left they ceased production for a while. Sherco / Gas Gas / Beta outsell them not because they are in the world champ getting their a*** kicked by Montesa but because most of us realise that we should buy what suits us, the WTC is not a good indicator of this.
the other point you make about aspiring to the WTC ? Have you missed how many people aspire to ride in a current WTC round ? This is what the rule change at BTC level is about in my opinion, you need more participants and that means more people aspiring to take part. If no stop isnt the solution then we either think of somthing else to change or knock £400 of the price of each new bike and just scrap the WTC / BTC.
-
so if the colmore timed every section and had punch cards you would need 120 observers ?
-
we struggle to get 10 observers for a local trial so we are not going to get 20. If its a UK nartional with 40 sections your going to need 80 observers, thats just too many.
-
Totally agree Woody
I see little point in a super hard championship route at BTC which is supposed to be grooming riders for a WTC thats dead on its feet. I am tired of the arguement that its ok because the youth class at WTC or Expert B prop up the entry numbers. Its not ok that nobody has broken into the top 5 for how long and that generally new riders cant make the grade on the champ route. No disrespect to any of them but if they are losing more than 100 marks in 30 sections they arent really going to win anytime soon, thats more than 3 marks per section for those of you who failed GCSE maths .
Good on the ACU for trying somthing, if it doesnt work the rest of us can still ride every sunday in our own events. If the WTC dies in current form does it really matter to me or you ?
-
tricky dicky has sent me the lottery numbers for tonight
whoo hoo !
-
they could try no stop, even Yeadon and Guisely are next year...
-
is that the Michael Skinner who used to ride for Montesa and Ossa in the 70s / 80s ?
-
GREAT TO SEE THE RESULTS, ARE YOU WINDING ME UP ???????
Not if your G Quinn it isnt, national debut at 14 finished last with a maximum score on day 1. I have kept that a secret all these years and then this happens, my dad still thinks I won !
It was a fantastic weekend, I was having my 21st at the 1989 edition of the event but it was cancelled as the wainwright clashed in England and there were not enough entries. A real shame, it was a fantastic trial.
Clink I owe you a poke in the eye with very sharp stick.....
