  1. so when do we all buy our last internal combustion engined trials bike ? 3 years 5 years 10 years how long does the battery last on the bike in the video ?
  2. just misunderstood the term tranny I think...
  3. THe ACU lets organisers decide what rules they want to run so lets allow clubs to decide and the riders decide what event they want to ride. one way or another things will stay the same or one set of rules will prosper. can we stop arguing now (me included) and get out and enjoy yourself on a bike. its sunday tomorrow, yee ha!
  4. Two things Pere Olle (thought it was Pedro) on the Beta 240 twinshock. I had one of these as a schoolboy, what a great little bike, i'd love to get one again, happy days ! other point is watching this we should stop arguing over rules really and get out and enjoy ourselves. THe ACU lets organisers decide what rules they want to run so let them decide and the riders decide what event they want to ride. one way or another things will stay the same or one set of rules will prosper.
  5. some of the best bikes ever made have had left hand kickstarts Bultaco Ossa SWM Beta to name a few sorry but think this is a bit of a pointless poll. The other thread Neo started had more potential ie how long has the same basic design of Beta engine been in production.. and how come people still complain about the clutch draggging when Beta have had a good 15 years to sort this, Electrics do seem to be sorted now but thats took about 10 years
  6. re previous post and rules being stop permitted for those riding BTC. How many riders from the SE centre ride in the BTC ? At the moment we have a BTC set up to prepare about 6 - 8 people for the WTC We then have centres keeping stop permitted to prepare the 6 or maybe less people who ride BTC per centre, yorkshire is probably and exception in terms of numbers. seems the sport is prioritising a minority..?
  7. The bike you buy now off Gas Gas is non homolugated but you can tax it as trials bikes have an exemption. this has applied for a few years, its why when you have to get a bike inspected they check things like ground clearance. The problem you will have importing one is that you wnt have a v55, not sure if you need one to get the exemption. DVLA should be able to advise.
  8. keep the diet going perce and you could look that bad...... well in a couple of years anway suit when you starting riding again, too cold for the one piece so no excuses
  9. Jonnybmac your missing the point. nothing wrong with hard trials at all but they dont need to be dangerous. In a recent NE centre trial of 3 laps 10 sections we had 5 people on the hard course. the winner lost 12 marks, a good ride if you have seen the sections, the 5th place guy lost 80 and the observing was rather slack so it could of been more, the NE is no stop. I'm not trying to get at the observers or the club here but the sections were not no stop because they had some big stuff which required set up to attack and the observers took this into account. People were minding for each other in this event, I may be old but minders in a club trial, why ? In contrast in some other recent trials I have assisted in marking out the guy who won the trial above has lost over 40 marks. No minders, no hopping just a focus on natural sections which in some cases were made deliberatly longer. The result is a capable middle course rider could have enjoyed themselves on the hard course, our expert, and being fair to the lad he is an expert, a genuine good rider, lost 40+. Now explain to me, your right i'm an old git, whats wrong with this approach ? Its how trials were when I started and its where, in my view, they need to go back to. Look at that superstars video from the 70's, Mart won losing a lot of marks but most people could attempt all of the sections. Compare that with the top class of the WTC now or even worse the top of the BTC, its just not working. Six people competing most of them losing around 100 marks and your telling us we need to look at this as the future ? If the hard section is a step you either get up or you dont. That does not mean its the only skill to test.
  10. I'd rather bet that the first time that bike gets properly hot your undercrackers will be on fire ! A trials bike can melt a plastic rear mudguard at the SSDT on the road, thats the silencer. This bike has the front pipe under the seat ?
  11. ok lets see on how many threads we can quote the term supply and demand in a night.......
  12. Jimmy I am a self confessed 4 stroke hater who has recently finished a bottle of wine. IF you sell a newcomer a 4rt and they go to the start field when its raining they wont be able to get up the grassy bank to the secretarys car due to incessant wheel spin and will quit the sport. Without even paying a single entry fee. 4RT great on the road in scotland, so is a Harley !!!
  13. what stands out from this post to me is the obsession in trials especially with younger riders and their parents with steps and generally big obstacles. The steps obsession comes from the WTC which younger riders understandably wish to emulate. The justification for stop permitted seems to be you wont be able to set up for a step or drop. Now try and think about this from the perspective of how to maintain sufficient people on the hard course at any given event from club trial to WTC. What you actually need are sections that all entrants can attempt but are difficult for the top guys to clean thus allowing more people to compete. The ideal section therefore in this scenario is not a six / eight / ten foot tall step which the top lads go up easily and every body else either fives or doesnt attempt. The ideal obstacle is not a six foot drop either which riders either clean or five by going over the bars. If we want trials to succeed we need to stop emulating trials with poor entries and start looking at what works. By this I mean clerks of the course need to stop relying on big objects to to take marks, its not the only way.
  14. ok we may have views on this but dont make it personal. i'm suprised prices are going up in the current climate, everything has a limit in terms of what people will pay. Pubs on Tyneside are now almost empty,
  15. I had imagined that Beta would get the bike to the event plus expenses for the rider ?
  16. the world championship has 10 entries at best the british championship has had as few as 6 this year and telecat thinks the S3 championship with over 70 entries an event and sometimes over a 100 is a dead end ? please explain....
  17. so as things stand Beta will have nobody in the indoors as a regular rider. wonder if they are concerend at all about this ? or will they be quietly pleased to avoid the expenditure ?
  18. i cant see a lot of point in taking our kids off the electric bikes, petrol must be time limited now ? if that can run for an hour now in five years we could be riding trials on one on a single charge.
  19. its ok to talk about the quality of the bolts and tell yourself the Scorpa and 4RT are the best made but they are not the best to ride. This is probably why the 4rt wasnt produced in 2010 (Mont had enough 2009 models left) and Scorpa went bust
  20. Was Burgat seriously injured in the paris dakar a few years ago or am i thinking of someone else ?
  21. I need an SWM !! you look at that video and you want to take part. looks like good times, maybe BTC and WTC could learn something
  22. Son number 1 can ride his oset but needs a bigger one son number 2 is currently enjoying his push a long bike dad could take the kids to TTC for a holiday.......... in a couple of years !
