I ride every section in first at 10 - 42. If you're geared up at 11 - 42 you've got no slow option when you're shagged towards the end of the week. There's nothing worse than been pulled up a section by a bike going too fast, makes a tough week tougher. I suggest you acquire a 10t sprocket for next time you visit, both AG & I ride virtually all our sections in first gear.

Having spent a lot of time with a GPS on both a 2t & a 4t bike, admittedly not in Scotland, your average speed is nominally higher but your noise is considerably higher.

I disagree with gearing a bike up for Scotland. You go up there to ride 180 sections & it's best that your bike is what you are used to. A difference in average speed of 45mph to 40mph on the longest road journey to Chairlift is 5 minutes. It's not difficult to make any time lost on the road by being 1/2 decent across the moors. I've only ridden a 280 Gasser in Scotland once, I used 10 - 42 gearing, it was quicker on the road than both of the bikes of the more SSDT expericenced Sherco riders I rode round with, I lost no time penalties that year through being slow on the road. As far as I'm concerned it's far easier to get into time difficullties watching your friends riding sections or say having to carry a rucksack to the end of every section. I rode a 250 Gasser with the same gearing the following year & it was slow, it also wouldn't lug a along in 5th across the moors, I was pulling 4th with plenty of revs but I still didn't get time penalties with it.

Normally runs two laps of 15 sections & it normally goes up Cold Knuckles but I'm not sure what they're planning to do this year, I'm not involved with marking out this Trial. I was out & about elsewhere in Swaledale yesterday & I can say that there's still an awful lot of snow about.

I didn't think number plates were actually part of the MOT test. I had a shagged one on a car, it had faded & the numbers were difficult to read, when I querried if it needed changing I was told it wasn't an MOT issue.

Tough luck on the club to loose their premier event two years on the trot, there'll always be next year.

Have you ever ridden Tuesday without having a 5? I have. I actually think that was the second time I got to the top of the ramp that day, unfortunately 1st lap I didn't stop there right long before I did a 180.

This is what I suspected all along, when all the bike manufacturers use needle roller bearings in the linkage there's a good reason. I saw a bike at the SSDT that had collapsed it's lightened linkage plates, not only did these break but the shocker snapped at the same time. Now I'm not saying that a collapsed bearing could cause this damage but who knows? I for one would be sticking with what the manufacturers supply. Regular maintainance prolongs bearing life, I use a Molybdenum Grease in my linkage as it does seem to repel water. When I've owned a Monts I also changed the dog bone when it came time to replace the bearings.

Not sure why the diary for 2010 hasn't been posted on the RMC website, I'll look into it, I'll also try & have a Club membership form posted on there as well. Our next Trial is supposed to start at Holgate & run around Telfit / Moor House. It's supposed to be the 24th of January but obviously we'll have to wait & see on the weather conditions. We rebranded the Lads & Dads Trials in 2009 & made them open to all. These Beginner Trials will be the easiest run by RMC in 2010, the plan is to make these very easy to encourage new starters. Having said that the easy course at all our Club Trials should be OK to have a spin round, the only place not particularly suitable for new starters is Fremington Edge.

Jack Wood for one I can think of straight away, as you finish the last section you're clocked off & WRITTEN in the Time Marshals book. BTW to be named as a Timekeeper you have to be an offical licenced ACU one hence The Scott only has Time Marshal.

you're talking about the rev N go 50. Cadet 50 / 80 & the Rookie 80 both have the same engine, from what I've been told it's a decent motor. Can't see there being a problem getting the engine as there must be millions of scoots / learner bikes out there with it in.

With no let up in the current cold weather RMC have had to reluctantly cancel the Boxing Day Trial which was to be held at Woodyard Reeth on the 26th of December.
