  1. D2w is right, regs, at least do not specify the use of a hideous industrial unit...yet.. So it would be best to be smart about this and not screw around, there are several ''USFS type'' units available from different trials bike dealers in the U.S. If people start making silly hacky homemade crap, then they will make more specific rules that just hurt our ability to ride. Lewisport has good selection...and Great to deal with, as is RYP, ETC, ETC
  2. A 250 4t would definitely Not be too much of a handful for a newbie...Since your looking at a used one, check it out well or have it checked out by a knowledgeable person or shop, could save you a ton of grief and cash.
  3. I am not familiar with the hand guards your considering. One thing to consider is if they are the full loop type, the potential of your hand /arm being caught in them during a spill can result in some Nasty bodily damage...it quite common..
  4. Mountain motorcycles in coquitlam and Mototrials west in Victoria both great places for bikes, parts or advice
  5. Interesting clips of what they are doing with some old 315's...one of the things that comes to mind watching those is what people could do when its hard to source pistons and rings for that model machine Thanks for posting those
  6. After your clutch cover is off take a look at the gear shift shaft, A common Beta issue is the weld that holds the selector on the end loften breaks free. Usually after an impact with an object or being used as a footpeg. Can be slid out clutch side and rewelded.. Best of luck
  7. Interested to see how this model will work out once it is available to the mob. I guess years of purchasing engines, etc, from Yamaha, Marc Tessier who owns Sherco and Scorpa must have a pretty good relationship so a little collaboration is no surprise.
  8. Sounds like the the thermo switch is stuck closed inside.Might try some very gentle ''tapping'' on it and see if it opens??
  9. Yamaha sure did a good job of keeping quiet about this machine. The kickstand, swing arm and rear disc guard all look Very Sherco / Electric motion, to me...some sort of partnership there? like the blue Scorpa's as Yamahas in Japan?
  10. Already an easy to manage machine, are you just trying to set it up for a small kid or your wife or something?..If you really needed to decompress...could probably drill/tap head if coolant passages allow, and fit a Husqvarna chainsaw decompresser fitting...
  11. Use your Honda Warranty, they will fix you up
  12. I have not tried this myself but if the unit toast, why not give it a try? Best of luck

    BOOTS!

Have a pair of Sidi Zero's and find they are a very good boot, feet do get wet quickly if ground is moist though. Also have a newer pair of Gaerne Balance oiled that I find are slightly more comfortable and are water resistant, which has gotten even more resistant due to the fact I occasionally rub them down with Dubbin. Both excellent boots, would not hesitate to to purchase either or both again in the future. Good luck

    foot pegs

I am pretty sure most any decent 2 part automotive paint and primer/sealer after light sanding and dewax silicone wipe would work well on the Scorpa tank...

    foot pegs

Yes, the aluminum hard rocks fit right onto the SY (did have to slightly adjust with a file to obtain proper angle).

    Lighter clutch

Have you looked at going with a different of modified lever with a shorter distance between pivot and plunger pin? You will get a little less overall throw but will make lever pull easier...might not notice but will make clutch action bit quicker too.

  18. When bike versus big rock...do you really want plastic wrap? Probably get kicked out of the pageant if its leaking coolant and oil all over the place
  19. Have a look at the pivot bolts for wear and bolt holes in frame for sloppyness, does not take much wear here for limp pegs....paulmac's weld bead solution would be a good fine tuning fix for your condition.
  20. Here is how we protected the kids bike with some aluminum rod and a spool gun and its way tougher than thin plastic. Cheap too
  21. Not trying to be nitpicky here but...It could really get you hurt if the...welds on that extension let go in a nasty downhill section . One more point one might want to check that the little pivot pin is in good condition as its gonna have a little extra twisting force on it, and they do wear out over time
  22. Just a thought as something to look into....Does the 4ride have the same unpopular Bank angle sensor as the Cota/Repsol?
  23. I would say that is the delta link to swing arm bearings in there..
