  1. It also depends on what rules you ride under. Ryan made those videos a long time ago and the bikes have changed drastically since he really competed. I`m a single hopper, but my boy makes the two wheel hop child`s play. The flick turn Ryan speaks of took a lot of effort, modern suspension requires little effort with proper timing. Once you figure out the timing, it`s a great technique to use over and over again.
  2. I usually check it right before I ride. If it`s a wet day, I set it on the low side. If it`s hot and dry, I keep a visual eye on the sidewall. World round in 1990, Globe Arizona. Jordi`s mechanic would check the tire pressure every time he rode this big rock for the crowd. Like a dozen times!
  3. No, most of the Beta owners that switched were on REV` 3`s. And all of them in our club went back to Beta. And several on the 4T. Only the Honda die hards still ride them.
  4. Nice read, but the best way to clean out a steel exhaust system is to burn it out. Granted you need a place with no neighbors close by. Once you get it started at one end, just feed it a small amount of oxygen. You can see it`s progress as it works it`s way through. Does not work with aluminum, though I have done it.
  5. I always had stalling issues with the Keihin until I drilled out the second vent. Just returned from riding at 9000ft elevation and the carb was flawless.
  6. Yes Dan, he is talking about the needle jet. It also sounds like someone flattened the end of the vent tube. PS after reading your other thread, I would try a 48 - 50 pilot jet.
  7. Someone really screwed up that carb. Have someone that knows Keihin`s show you a proper one.

    Titanium Stand

The 4rt never needs a stand. Throw it on the ground and it`s still happy.

    Reserve Fuel

A cheap plastic bottle works, but use it as soon as you can.
  10. You have to find if there is an air leak first. You never mentioned which carbs. If you are just using another stock carb, it could be as simple as missing the o ring on the top.
  11. Trials takes years and years and hundreds of hours of practice!
  12. Doing two wheel hops with a dead engine is very hard. Two wheel hops are normally done with power and precise timing on the clutch. My son can do two wheel hops with a dead motor easily, but learned with the clutch. You have to drive down hard with the legs for compression and unload with the whole body coming up while using the hips to rotate. Back to basics. Can you hop the front in a 360 both directions? Can you hop the rear both directions? My son has a hard time nose wheelie`s to the left, so that is his bad side with two wheel hops. Hope this helps a little.
  13. It`s for his vintage classic Gas Gas.
  14. Really, this is how bikes get flooded with fuel. I used to see the same guys show up at events with non-running bikes, just because they left the fuel on. In transport the floats bounce letting fuel in even with everything working good.
  15. Are you turning the petcock to off when parked Have you ever thought to pull off the flywheel cover and give the crank a good tug? Bad main bearings play hell with ignition timing.
  16. Take the float bowl off and pull the pilot jet out and clean it. Also to properly start the gasser, slowly kick it through until you get it to top dead center. Then give it a good swift kick. My son is quite a bit taller than me, it was irritating to have him kick the bike until I figured this out.
  17. Ever since the pegs were lowered, (1990 ish) most riders have the bars rolled way forward.
  18. I would learn to do single hops front and rear first. It`s a slow progress to really figure out the timing. Hopping both wheels at the same time is hard to do without the silly dab at the end. My son does it both directions rather well. He cheats being 6 foot 4. Lots of leg involved. Good luck.
  19. You turn with inside peg pressure, not your arms at all. That is what saves your arms. Find a place with plenty of room and very smooth. Slowly get used to the idea of only peg pressure. Now start riding with only your right hand. Use only peg pressure and throttle control. When you can easily do figure eights one handed, go back to both arms and try your harder turns.
  20. Actually this sport draws a lot of empty nesters. Our club has always had many people in it without any children. You almost must have a family member in trials to be drawn to actually compete. Amazing how many people have trials bikes and would not ever compete.
  21. Trials require bending your knees more than most people do. The bikes Ergos are fine for a six footer. Relax and breath while in the section.
  22. I bought one for myself in 1993 (Jet ski Type) It`s still in the wrapper. There is no way in hell I would use the Mag type. Long tether yes.

    Dealer Inventory

I do not think many 2015`s are even around. The shipments were so late .they were already sold.
  24. The Sammy Miller Highboy I have still has the Amal. One kick wonder. Point being, no matter what carb you have it all comes down to everything being set right. Good luck.
