And the goal is to restore back to new but leave the engine alone, if it can be helped? If it were me I'd just restore the chassis and parts and put it all back together. If the engine or tranny end up being a problem you can easily pull the engine and tending to any issues. While the bike is apart you can source any missing pieces. Just my .02

What condition is the bike in now? Boxes? Partially complete? Can you post a picture? With some bikes it's better to get them complete and running and then tear them down. That way you know what's missing or needs replaced. I almost think the Bultacos are so simple that you can get away with building them up just using a parts manual. Of course it helps if you have rebuilt a couple before.

I think "exact model" is a bit of an exaggeration. London Times Perhaps that is where your friend was mistaken. For the re-enactment they used a Metisse but in the original movie it was a stock (but modified) Triumph.

In this case when the differences between the 350 and 500 are so small I'd tend to agree. It's easier to soften the power on a 500 than try to get more power from a 350...

I wouldn't expect much wear. There's a huge difference between the amount of pressure that can be applied by hand vs. hydraulic. But seriously, were are the pics of the lad's mum? Barring that maybe the bike...

Wouldn't the sintered brake lining material be for drum brakes? Corvettes (especially racing ones) had disk brakes since the early 60s. Rear brakes on racing Camaros were drums. Maybe that's what they were from.

Is your OSSA tank sealed with Caswell? I have one tank that was sealed with what I believe was Caswells. No problems. I would recommend this over anything else. I sealed two others with POR15 and am not as happy with the results. One area in which this is an extremely well known problem is in the boating world. Apparent fiberglass fuel tanks were not that uncommon.

That's a pretty decent price for Michelins. While I should buy a pair I haven't worn out the last set by a long shot. But I will say that granite is not very nice to tires. Luckily we ride in a lot of mud.

Sherpas aren't exactly rare. My guess is especially in the NE and NW where trials seemed to be prevalent back in those days. A really good way to find them is to hand around with modern trials guys (especially the older ones) as they sometime have the old bikes sitting around. They occasionally pop up on Craigslist. Here in the NW my guess is that I'll see about a dozen Sherpas offered in a year. If you're in the NE, maybe ask Hugh's if they know of any available. You do have to work to find the old stuff. People don't just hand them to you... well sometimes they do.

Too far from the carb to be a boost bottle. And I don't think those work so well on a four stroke...
