I was going to buy a new 250 but im told that there will be a months wait for one from the place I wanted to buy from (due to bike production being halted because theres no forks!).
Im thinking about getting a 300 instead as I can get one straight away.
Im told that they are a great bike and if they are found to be a bit of a hand full you can soften them up a bit, how true is this?
Any info on them welcome.

Was riding in a quarry on sunday and came a cropper on a rock and tore my meniscus (cartlidge in my right knee).
only just started being able to put any weight on it and physio said it will need operating on =(
I want to get back on the bike asap and dont care about much else really!
anyone had any experience with similar injuries? im told the waiting list is 6 months for the operation (even though its only a 30 minute keyhole jobbie), would this mean if I was to go private the cost would be relativly minimal? eg in the hundreds not the thousands?
Any info/advice welcomed!

I had trouble when re-building my beta.
turned out to be the earth yet when I tried earthing the coil to several points it still wasnt working.
to check that it definatly isnt a problem with the earth, take the ring connector that is meant to earth on the frame and run a wire from it and connect it to the negative termninal on a battery, also make sure your holding the plug against the cylinder head when you check it.
earthing can be very very tempremental so you need to make sure that definatly isnt the problem before you go messing around with other things.
Let me know how ya get on.

Thanks alot mtwallet but ive managed to sort it now, heres where I went wrong....
I replaced the bolts that held the fan on with hex key bolts because the old ones were a pain to get off with a screw driver. The bolts had a very thin coat of something on them which made them black, so the mount for the coil which is where the earth wire is bolted to wasnt earthing properly because of whatever coating was on the bolt. Ive replaced the bolt with the old one and im now getting a spark.
The way i tested it was by attaching a wire to the coil with the earth held solid against the coil with a nut and bolt and then connected it to the positive terminal on a car battery I had on charge. got a good solid earth and a nice fat spark so I knew it was definatly an earthing problem.
hopefully the bike with be back together tomorrow and I can go riding on sunday.
Thanks to everyone for all the help!

Is there a proper way that I can tell that im getting a good solid earth? ive bolted it where i think it went and tried several other places but still no spark, but it would be nice to eliminate that as a problem.
Thanks alot

Im no expert, but when I got back into skateboarding I found it really hard work on my joints and certain muscles, the best way for me to solve it was just to carry on through it and my body adapted.
So long as its not injury related and just muscular I would have thought your body would just get used to it and built the strengh needed to do the job?
Once again though, Im no expert!!
Hope it gets sorted in the long run and you can enjoy your riding properly.

First off, thanks to everyone who replied to my thread about replacing my beta with a gasser.
Went to Gas Gas UK today (after being refused a test ride at my nearest dealer), found them very friendly and extremely helpful. they even went out of their way to get me their demo 250 back from someone for me to have a go on round the car park.
Bike made a real impression on me, first thing I noticed was the weight, felt alot lighter than my beta and hopped around really nice (which im usually hopeless at). Brakes!! I had to go in the back of my van and releive myself after feeling the brakes (only joking, but I did consider it). The clutch was very light and beautiful to use but the lever was set a bit high for me and the biting point was really far out, but thats not the bikes fault. Gears also felt good, nice and positive changes and very smooth. Cant really comment on the suspension because I was in a car park but it felt very.......Suspensiony? The motor was very quick revving but felt a little bit softer than my beta, didnt have that snap, My beta had the flywheel weight took off, maybe thats the reason?
The only thing I dont like about the bike is it looks very plasticky but at the end of the day, it does the job really well so I shouldnt be bitching about the looks of the bike.
Hopefully be getting one soon =]

Just put a new regulator on my beta to make the fan work (and it does now work) but now im not getting any spark, I removed the CDI so i could work easier and connected it all back up according to the wires, put the coil back on too but im not getting a spark, I havnt actually tried firing the bike up, just held the plug against the head and also just held it to see if I die or not. Im worried I may have damaged the CDI? i dropped it onto a concrete floor from about 1ft, would this be enough to damage it?
id be grateful for any help as im now stumped.

the brake has been bled, loads of pressure in the lever but just doesnt grip the disc, tried new pads, roughing up the disc etc but no luck, got a new disc on the way which will sort it hopefully.
at the end of the day, the gasser is a competitive machine so im sure ill get used to riding it to my fullest, its just mechanical things i would be worried about mostly. i know alot of people slate gassers for falling to bits but as far as im aware this was just in the early pro models and it seems to have tainted the name. is this true or are they all still falling apart?
Thanks for the replies.

Getting fed up with my 06 beta, and thinking about buying a new 08 Gas Gas 250 however my local Dealer has told me they dont let you ride them! Gas Gas UK isnt too far away from me so may buy from them, does anyone know if they will have one for me to ride?
Also, are there any common problems with the Txt's or are they pretty much sound? Im getting fed up with my Beta wazzing petrol everywhere and just little things like the rubber cable holder near the fuel cap always coming away from the tank, Its also nice to know where a bikes been hence why I want to buy new this time.
everyone tells me the brakes are awesome on a gasser, is that true? Front brake on my beta sucks so will be looking forward to that.
Also, what should I be looking at paying for one with cash?
Would like one with a red frame but only seen raga with that one so im guessing its only availiable in black (not a bad thing, looks swish!)
Thanks in advance.

the wires that i connected originally are still connected but ive not done a continuity test or anything on them.
what electrics are involved in running the fan?
Thanks for the reply.

a while ago the thermoshat on my 06 rev 3 went kaput to I did the silly thing of connecting the 2 wires together as a "temporary" fix. This fix turned out to be more permanant as i forgot id done it! after about 30 hours riding the fan has died, does anyone know what part of the bike has gone? and if so, how to fix it?
any info much appreciated.

Im looking at changing my Hebo Zone for a Airoh Rock ( http://www.bikersdirect.co.uk/Airoh-Rock-N...lmet_A9QE1.aspx ).
im actually a size S/M in my road helmets and found my hebo size "M" to be a bit too big, so im wondering whether to switch down a side to a "S" in the airoh, does anyone know how the two companies sizing compares? I heared that Hebo's are oversized a little bit, so maybe a "M" Airoh would fit nicely?
I know the best way to find out is to try some on but I dont know anywhere that i can travel to to find out.
just looking for opinions/advice, any advice will not be thrown back in your face if it all go's to pot!

I Also do skateboarding which thankfully im alot better at than trials and I often find low speed slams alot worse than high speed, simply because you always try to save it and end up in a worse mess than you were previously. I think the same go's for trials, most injuries occur after trying to save the bike and ending up with bits of it ontop of you/inside you.
I dont wear any protection when skateboarding, simple reason, people think your a poof
same go's for trials I think, helmet, boots and gloves are normal, anything else and a few people may think your a bit of a toft.
In an ideal world though, I think people should wear the right protection. ive had to drop out of competitions skateboarding because of injury that could easily have been avoided with some basic protection.
still cant get my head around these skin-tight jobbies though, I just wear jeans and a T-shirt. If your gonna wear trousers that show off your fat ass you may aswell compliment it with some knee pads
on a more serious note, I would imagine any skateboard shop whether on the high street or online could sell you a good set of knee pads that are as least restricting as possible and designed for alot of leg movement.

I dont know if its because im not on the rear brake solid enough, but my rear end does tend to roll backwards, I usually compensate for it with the clutch, but not always got the engine on when im trying to hop.
still cant hop for toffee, If there was toffee involved maybe I would have more insentive....
