It's the heat as you suspected, crack the top and let the pressure out.

Certainly sounds like an air leak, have you sprayed it while running ? If its the ignition side crank seal, there will more than likely be some 2 stroke residue in the casing.

Check air box for water, were you using a pressure washer ? If water in air box, remove spark plug and try kicking over.

Can you swap the cdi for a known good one ? Sounds like a failing capacitor.

Trails established by feet / cattle / bikes or whatever, act as fire breaks. Fire damage has increased apparently without paths, not good for wild life either ?
