  1. What a fantastic result for Alexz Wigg. A rider from the south midland centre where there is not a natural rock for 100 miles taking the Scottish. I know the results have still got to be officially confirmed. It also makes my claim to fame of beating him once in a trial sound even better (I don't mention the fact that i was 22 and he was about 8 when I tell this story). Congrats to the rest of the Wigg team as well. Nice pictures of Alexz and Julian at the end. I am sure he is very proud. I couldn't get up to spectate for the first time in a few years ( which is probably why the weather has been good) but sounds like the organisers did a great job again and overcame some big problems. On other notes I feel sorry for Ben Hemmingway coming so close again, and I was surprised Cabestany wasn't more on the pace. I realise the sections are very differnt but at his level you would think you could adapt to anything. Could bode well for the British boys in June? Anyway well done to all involved, and to all the riders who took part. Roll on next year.
  2. You should be able to get an age related plate with a letter from yamaha confirming the year it was made. I got a ty 175 registered this way. I wrote to yamaha uk and gave them the frame number and they wrote back confirming the year, they also said it was never intended for road use. I took this along to the dvla and they registered it on an old v plate. Simples. This was a few years ago though.
  3. Try and enjoy it as much as you can. From my experience I used to enjoy the trials more after I had finished them when I first started. Meaning that they were hard work at the time but when you looked back they were great. Don't beat yourself up if you drop loads of marks and if in doubt take a safe big dab, better a one than a five. I think the saying also goes if you do dab make it count, meaning get as much out of it as you can. Good luck. Where are you riding?
  4. This is what I have just got. Seems a good bit of kit so far. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Altura_N...ket/5360044955/
  5. An interesting thread. I have both a trials bike and trail bike, and like Pete says round my area the nearest decent group of trails is 30 miles away. A few years back I did sell both of them and buy a new 4rt with the intention of doing both on it, I got a spare back wheel and everything, but in the time I had the 4rt I didn't trail ride on it once. The practicality of using it in my area just wasn't going to work. I couldn't ride it up the a5 for 1/2 an hour to the nearest group of trails in Northamptonshire (we did a 275 mile loop to thetford one day which would have been murder on a trials bike). I didn't want to van it there as unloading at the side of the road attracts uneccesary attention, and I don't really want to leave the van by the side of the road. I guess up north it might be different but even when we ride up in the dales there is a lot of roadwork in between, but the main reason for switching back to one bike for each was the challenge. I haven't come across any lane (byway/ucr) that would be a challenge on a trials bike, and in the last couple of years I have ridden in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Wales, Cotswolds, Herts, Northants,Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. But I have come across plenty of lanes that have made me sweat and struggle on my old DR, which is what I love. We did one in wales where once we had dropped into the lane threading through television sized boulders there was no way we could get back up that way so we hoped the way forward was a bit easier. It wasn't the lane exited up a series of steps less than a bike lentgh apart that on a trails bike you wouldn't think twice about, well maybe I would have a couple of dabs! but on our bikes (dr350, drz400,xr400, ktm 525, wr250 400 Alp) a completely different matter we all had to take turns riding and help pull each one up. It was brilliant! Admittedly some of the group weren't to keen, but that's what I love about trail riding on a trail bike. Trying to ride it like a trials bike and getting it to go place that it shouldn't really be able to go up and over, and also falling off and laughing at myself and all my mates who are in the same boat. Just my personal view, but that's how I feel about it. So my advice is if you can afford to have both, have both.
  6. My certificate says Evo on it. They had to add the 200 on to their system for me. Made me feel special.
  7. Mine is insured through Norwich Union, or Aviva as I believe they Re now known.
  8. Nice one JUstin, did you need a wide angle lens for the pictures. See you at the Vic, hope fully I will have a better year than last. Have a good Christmas Cheers Dave
  9. I have a 2010 200 and my mate has a 250, both seem to take a while for the Revs to drop. They both seem to run crisply though. We had Rev 3's before, and they run a lot better than them, but I have never ridden an 09 Evo so can't compare to one of them.
  10. Cheers Justin. I didn't realise they had their own website, but it's been a couple of years since I looked. Found a 250 to try out yet?
  11. Has anyone seen a riding list for the Hillsborough Classic this weekend. I am bit concerned it wont turn up due to the postal strike, also is it still starting from the Brick works? I know there was talk of the start moving? If so could someone let me know my start time. Dave Giltrow is my name. Cheers

I normally find the Hillsborough classic easier than the Hipwell, but I may of changed my opinion by this yime next week.

    Evo Virgin

No worries Justin. Glad you liked it.
  14. Got my new Aviva NU certificate through the other day, and unlike the old one it doesn't mention Trials
  15. Yep the postcode looks right on the regs.
  16. Wouldn't worry about turning the tyre all mud and roots but if it's dry you will be fine.
  17. Nice one, thanks Justin. Hopefully see you Sunday. You will be able to spot my bike, it will be the one covered in bubble wrap.
  18. I know you normally can, but I just want to double check that you can enter the Berko Trial at Dews farm this weekend, on the day? Anyone know for sure? Cheers Dave
  19. Sounds like a good deal on the insurance. I didn't try bikesure, but wish I had now. You are right about technique. I ride completely the opposite way and if anything I am guilty of not enough throttle. With regards to the bike. I have just got back from nipping up the woods for an hour on it. So here are my first impressions, having never riding an Evo before buying it. Riding position is quite a lot different to the Rev 3. It seems more like the Gas Gas riding position to me where the pegs seem higher and the bars seem lower. This felt strange at first but after the first 20 minutes felt normal. The bike also feels noticably smaller than the Rev 3, and you can tell that it is lighter. The carburation seems better from the off without any tweaking and it seems a lot crisper. Rear suspension although it is still a bit stiff seems to work better, although I have only been over and up a few small tree root steps. Seems to ride up and over better. With regards to the power delivery it seems very similar to my Rev on the softer ignition setting. The other one seems to make it a litlle livelier off the bottom end but not by much. At the moment tickover is a little bit high but I will leave it for another couple of hors riding before I start adjusting things. The biggest difference I found was the turning circle, it is amazing it feels like the bars will turn for ever and could catch you out. The finish on it looks really good as well. All in all from first impressions well pleased. Also had a go on my mates 2010 Pro which was nice, I was quite surpised though that although the Pro is lighter the Beta actually felt smaller?
  20. I picked up my 2010 evo 200 yesterday as well. Haven't even fired it up yet. I have insured it though. The best deal I could get was
  21. Thanks I will give them a try. Sounds reasonable.
  22. Not yet as I am stilll not sure when the bike is arriving. I have had a couple of quotes though, so it shouldn't be a problem. Dave
  23. Thanks. I tried them and I am waiting to hear back. They said they don't normally do road insurance but they would get a quote and get back to me.
  24. As the title says who do you insure your evo with? My current broker does not recognise it and said to go to Norwich Union direct. Which I have done but I need a couple of quotes before I commit. Wasn't there an ACU linked scheme or am I imagining that? Thanks Dave
  25. This is brilliant news. After losing bleak hall the future looked grim for practicing locally. But after years of hard work by a few very dedicated members things are looking up. Well done to all involved.
