What would be the correct tyre pressures on my TY250 for general practise and messing about? If they are too low will it split the side walls of the tyres? Have tried to get a workshop manual for my bike but am struggling, tried loads of places but am surprised how hard it has been to track one down for such a popular bike, any ideas? Can anyone reccommend the best 2 stroke oil to keep things running sweetly and also which gearbox oil? Should the joint where silencer meets exhaust be sealed with exhaust paste, currently mine is just pushed on and is a fairly loose fit. I seem to be asking a lot of questions on this forum but am new to trials and keen to learn about my…

Hello I have recently acquired a TY175 with a Whitehawk frame. Apart from the tank decel it appears totally original including the one piece tank/seat unit embossed with a 'W', Thing is, I'd like to know a bit about 'Whitehawk', as in who/where/when etc. All I have seen is a posted pic from the original brochure. Any 'enlightenment' would be appreciated. Thanks Paul

Hello purchased a rather snotty looking 77 ty250 last week up in Nova Scotia, Canada. Have started the tear down process and it has been coming apart amazing well. Have the motor and everything but the headstock off the frame as of now. Just the two bolts for the rear fender snapped into the frame. It seems to be all there parts wise, should clean-up well. Wondering on just the usual stuff that should be looked into that has proven to be problematic through the years? Suggestions for parts in Canada? Have found parts sites in Britain and France and in the States. Have removed the autolube for the oil tank sight glass was cracked Have cleaned the carb and flushed …

I have just bought a second hand Sammy Miller silencer and some Boyesen reeds for my otherwise standard TY175. Has anyone else fitted similar and what changes did you have to make (if any) to the carb settings? Were any jetting changes required? Carbs are a dark art to me and any help will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to understand it.

Hi there, i'm new to this forum malarky, so if I've posted this in the wrong place, I apologise now. I have bought my son a TY80 Whitehawk that needs a few bits and bobs done before we go out and learn gears on his first ride. I have been trying to locate a 250-20 front tyre, but no one seem to be selling them. Any ideas where I can get them from? Everything seems to be 19 inch, or 21. My searching for 20 inch throws up mountain bike tyres! Also, how do I date the bike? The engine number is 451-107284, but I cant find the frame number as yet. Its not stamped on the headstock, so hope to find it once I get the tank off? Cheers, Dan

Hi All I've just got round to fitting the Trail & Trials UK gear change mod for the TY175 after having it sitting around for 6 months. I took all the old bits out, put the new bits in and followed the instructions. The gear lever no longer slops around like it used to. BUT - now I am having trouble selecting a gear. The leaver goes down to a stop or up to a stop but doesn't take bike out of neutral. Before I go back and start all over again does anyone have any tips/advice/etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi Folks. Very new to to this so looking for a bit of help from people who know about TYs. I had a TY80 as a kid but haven't had a bike since then. Bought an 80 for my boy at christmas and have just picked up a cheap TY175 off Gumtree for myself. Worried I have been a bit hasty as it needs more work than I thought initially. Anyway these are the things I'm wondering. 1. The frame has some lugs and fixing points on that I haven't seen on any other TY frames. Does anyone know what these are? Is there any chance the frame is from a different bike or am I just worrying? 2. It has come with a Sammy Miller tank and seat combo. Am I right in thinking that this is an upgrade and…

I have a 1976 ty175. Have noticed lately that the bike is hard to get into gear. The lever seems hard to move and does not seem to want to return back (wants to stay in highest position after shifting) any ideas on what might be causing this.

Dear exalted shamans of mechanical knowledge and expertise, Thank you so much for all the insights and advice on this forum thus far. My little bike is coming on a treat thanks to you guys helping me learn how. So i was wondering, as the bike had been sitting for 30 years, is it fair to assume its a given that one must change the crank seals as a matter of course? They don't seem to be leaking and i did 'feetupfun's suggestion of measuring the oil and none had gone from the right side (i think my oily plug is telling me to be a little more sparing with the pre mix ratios)-but is it inevitable that its upcoming and i should muster up the courage and determi…

Guys- I think the TY 250 can run either a #428 chain or a #520 chain. Are there any advantages one way or the other? favorite? and why? Best sources? Right now I mostly ride single track and fire roads with a stock 53 tooth on the rear and 12 in the front, but my 53 is about worn out and the chain is about ready to go with it too, so I'm wondering where I can find replacements for all 3 parts if possible. My instinct tells me to stay with steel for the rear sprocket for longevity if nothing else. Any comments are much appreciated!

Has anyone got an old TYZ mudguard with the Hamilton full length decal fitted that they don't want and would like to sell, or alternatively, would be willing to take a good photo of and e-mail it to me. I thought I had one spare myself but it must have been sold on one of my earlier bikes. These aren't available anymore and I'd like to get another made. We've had one go but it's not quite right so need an original pattern, or good photo of, to work from. Or, if anyone has a bike with one fitted and isn't really bothered whether they have the decal on their bike or not, I'd be happy to buy it off you for the cost of a replacement new guard. Picture attached of the decal…
