  3. Hello friends, the mechanical ignoramus here again from Brooklyn NY. please bear with me as im sure you are fed up with me asking for advice, but time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted and if there's no such thing as a silly question etc... having followed all the sagacious insights from you all in my last post about winter storage, i was a bit saddened to find out the in-laws shed where i now keep the bike floods when it rains heavily leaving about 3-4" of standing water for a day or two until it drains. i deliberately raised it up about 6" off the ground on plywood and put some thick plastic sheeting underneath so the bike isn't directly in contact with th…

I recall reading somewhere about using a Gas Gas swinging arm in the TY mono back in the day. Am I making it up or was it related to another bike?

  5. hi I currently have a gas gas txt pro (2002) that i have up for sale. if it dosn't sell I was toying with the idea of fitting the front end and rear wheel from the gas gas onto the TY i've only had a brief look but the rear hub on the gas gas seems to be wider, by about 15mm, i was thinking i could get the hub and the disc stay arm machined down to fit. The front end would probably fit if i pressed out the steering stems and replaced the TY one in the gas gas forks? also i would need to mount the rear brake res somewhere has anyone else done anything similar? at the moment nothing is set in stone but i was just mulling over the possibilites m…

I have a Yamaha engine which has had the gearchange shaft sawn through and the splines removed. All I have left is a round bar of approx 25mm in length. The challenge is to make it useable without splitting the engine. Any ideas from all you bodgers out there????

Does anybody know if genuine Yamaha pistons are still available for a twinshock TY250?. I've got hold of a 'pattern' piston from a UK Yam spares dealer and it's been nothing but trouble .........any help would be appreciated.

Hi All, I'm getting going on the restoration of the TY250. I got the frame all stripped down except thw triple clamps and the foot pegs. During the process I came across a small area behind the headstock that has a hinged cover which opens from below. It is held closed by a knurled thumbscrew. A bunch of hazel nuts and looks like flower seeds fell out when I open it. What is it for? I'll tr to post some pictures.

Hi All, Nearly finished my Majesty and I am in two minds what exhaust to use Option 1 WES center box with no rear silencer Option 2 two part WES system but by the looks of it it will need cutting and welding on therear silencer. Option 3 refub the original system I will ride the bike when done so performance is a factor. your opinions welcome Regards Scorpa250

Hi, My ty250 has plenty of power, but only at the bottom end of the gears, as soon as i hit half revs and upwards it just doesn't gain any power at-all, which means i resort to staying in the bottom end of the gears. At first i thought that this was obviously how the trial bike was designed, not the top end aggressive nature like a motocross bikes. But my friend has one also, and pulls through the gears no problem. I have a ty175 also and i sometimes think that it is definitely faster than my 250, no power issues at-all. I have changed the gearbox oil, put in a new spark plug, cleaned and checked my air filter and cleaned out my front exhaust but to no avail. I dont w…

Hello, to all. After 30+ years of mx just got my first trials bike. '85 TY350 and hoping I could get some help/advice. Rode it around in backyard today and wow, felt like fish out of water, but this is going to be fun. Any drills you could recommend to help ? Also as I run Maxima 927 @ 40:1 with 50/50 race/pump gas mix in my vintage race bikes ( '77 Montesa VB360 and '80 YZ465 ) will this work for the TY ? Sure I'll have many more questions, thanks for your help in advance

Front half of frame is altered and looks like a godden...toolbox is gone..and tubes have been fitted. It has been mono shocked and I think that has been altered from the first attempt...I have been on here under the name shocker. Any ideas to its origin ...? Cheers all
