Hello, the chain and sprockets finally gave up the ghost so I fitted new matching 12/51 and a 428 chain. the chain has the same number of links as the old (stretched) one, but even on the longest adjustment, the chain seems tight to me. the old set up saw the tensioner rubber resting on the swingarm, whereas now, the gap is forefinger thickness. This seems the norm from what google images tells me, but to me it seems really tight, but it seems to ride better. I am used to enduro bikes, where the chain hangs like the proverbial hammock. what do you do and is the forefinger gap about right? I dont want to bust the gearbox! cheers Andrew

I have a standard TY175 which has been lying around the garage for some time unused as I also have a scorpa 250 and because the TY is a little bit on the small side. I was thinking about selling the TY however I started her up and had a little pootle about and realised that I love that little bike and for the couple hundred pounds it cost me its great just to have about. So, my question is has anyone modified a TY175 to make it a bit more comfortable to ride, lower foot pegs, longer swing arm, don't really want to spend the money but what difference do the majesty frames make etc? I'm 5 11 tall and just feel as if I am hunched over a bit when I ride it (I don't walk hunch…

The only problem I have is the mono shock spring unit is to soft and it bottoms out and the chain grinds . It's on the max setting for rebound . I'm 17 st so might be the fact I'm riding it or may need a replacement? At 360 quid for a new one any ideas welcome cheers stu

Does anyone know where I can get fibreglass tank/seat to fit a Mini Majesty frame. They are no longer available from the Majesty website, but I guess someone still has the moulds.

hello, well, my rattly old ty is not rattly anymore, having been rebuilt with a relined cylinder, wossner piston, new rod, big end and mains etc. the timing is spot on. the jetting is less spot on (work in progress) not sure if this is a new thing, or if the bike always did it - but didnt notice because of the bad rattles it made before - but on over run, it makes a sort of 'dongk, dongk, dongk' noise .................. I have read about the 'pipe bang' problem (on usa sites mainly). is this normal for a ty? pjme did all the machine work and the bike was put together properly - otherwise its all fine. thoughts appreciated.

This has possibly been asked / covered before. Has anyone got info on the numbers of original Majesty Yamahas 250s produced?? I am curious to know how many Yam framed bikes were modified, as well as numbers of the later Godden framed bikes were produced. I have an early Yam framed bike, it needs cosmetics more than anything, the frame is black and doesn't look as if it has ever been painted since it was originally built, all frames seem to be red . yellow or white??,I am wodering if it is one of the 1st?? 1978 S reg, it sold recently on the bay but highest bidder was clearly bored and decided to bid but not contact me after so I have decided to keep it. Any info would be…

I have a 74 model 250A serial number 434-011251 and I need the shop manual for it. That's the downside. Now the good side is that I also have a 1975 B model shop manual if anybody needs one.? Maybe we can trade? I have been using the info from the B model shop manual to do all a the tune up and work on the ignition (Magneto and Points/condenser) up to a point. I checked out the schematic for the B model and it seems to have a couple of things different about it that I can't find or explain on my A model. #1 There is NO DIODE in my wiring harness now. ( at least I can't find one) I don't know if it has been removed, or it never had one? Norm…

You certainly have to be careful buying bikes on E-bay.If the special Fantic wasn't enough, this guy's trying to sell a TYZ with no airbox or cooling fan. He explains "that it has the usual Yam rattles, yes even watercooled ones rattle". Well what a surprise! See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-ty250-ty-250-...1QQcmdZViewItem So I thought I'd ask where they were. This is his reply: "Hi there,as the photo clearly shows there is an open filter i didnt bother mentioning it.I didnt even know it should have a cooling fan." So I explained politely that it most definately should have an airbox and cooling fan and he replied with this: "Individual filters which do not …

I am going to do a precationary top end rebuild on my new TY80 as there is a very sligth top end rattle. Presumably it will be pretty much the same as the one I done to my FS1E about 32 years ago! Are there any things I need to look out for? If it has been rebored will it normally be stamped on the barrel to say what size? I will be doing piston, rings, little end, gudgeon pin and circlips. Anything I have missed? How long does it need to be run in for?

Hello, I'm new to this and I posted this in the wrong place, so i'll try again. I have just bought an'85 TY250 mono and when the engine is warm either on overrun or light load, you know how they only fire or pop erratically well each time it "pops" there is a loud metallic knock. Is this normal because I thought something was going to let go! Any help would be much appreciated, thanks Mike.

Just wondered what oil you were all using in your gearbox ? What weight and what brand ? Fully synthetic or mineral ? I use ATF fluid in my Beta to good effect and was wondering if anybody uses this in their TY 175? All opinions welcome Gareth

Hello All, This is my first post on this forum so please bear with me. I have a74 ty250a that I am currently restoring. I am an automotive technician of 6 years and have my basics covered but this is really my first embarkation into the world of motorcycle mechanics. I have the cases split and had the crank assembly professionally rebuilt and I'm looking to re-assemble and having a hard time with the crank. As far as I can tell the crank will have to be pressed into the bearing, correct? I assume a pipe approximately equal to the inner race of the crank bearing should be used to support the case half and the crank should be pressed in one side first. What would I use …

What is the difference between the original Majestys and the new ones you can buy now? As I understand it the new ones are built using NOS frames from John Shirt and most other bits are TY. Did the original ones have the fibreglass tank or were they alloy?

Thought I should start a new thread for this one. The pictures tell the tale better than I can. All the parts on this one seem to be steel unless there is some aluminum tubing inside the Stainless Steel mesh between the large washer/baffles.? This stainless mesh is spot welded onto the inner tube and the inner tube is full of about 1/4 inch holes. You can't see the holes unless you hold it up to the sun light. I won't burn this part out just to be safe. It is not caked with carbon deposits anyway. Just another dip in the degreaser shoud clean it up well enough. The only problem (and it may not be much of a problem) is the fiberglass packing that was oi…

Hi, I bought a ty twin back in 1994 when I was 14. The last time I had it out it cut out and never started again (almost 10 years ago). I'm going to buy a starter tune up kit etc for it and try to get it going. It's been sitting in a dry shed the whole time so I don't think it'll be seized. What should my procedure be? Spray wd40 into cylinder? Also want to change gearbox oil, but which oil do I use? It was a 1986 'C' registered bike and I've been telling people for almost 20 years that it was a 1986 twinshock, but that's surely incorrect??!! Only just beginning to realise it's most probably from the late 70's! How can I find out? It's got a slightly squarer t…

Hi everyone new to the trials scene, I have bought a bike (TY250), but found a few problems. Mainly a very badly corroded wheel and spokes were so bad i had to grind the in half. Does any one know if they are still available. The rear rim is also badly corroded. Does anyone know if any other rim can be adapted to fit? Also need to find another shock absorber - can one be adapted from another model to fit? Any info on obtaining spares would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, Does anyone know of any useful mods that can be made to my mono to help it to stop. The bike is great for most things but the drum brakes can be a handful. I want to keep the bike original so wont put discs on. I usually clean the brakes out after 3-4 rides and rough up the pads/drums. Cheers
