Twinshock

  1. Started by jamieson,

Hi there! I Recently bought a KT 250 and have been looking around for a few spares. I have found a company in USA (California) and one in New Zealand that can supply certain parts but postage costs to the UK are pretty steep so just wondered if anyone knows of anyone in the UK that can provide parts for this model. I keep a look out on that well known auction site but as these bikes are pretty rare parts don't come up very often. Thanks Simon

I'm a beginner with Montesa Cota 348 (year 1978). Maybe someone could help me? 1. Any ideas on a firm that supplies gaitors and seat cover for my bike? 2. What kind of foam plastic I should use in the air filter? Have I to use air filter oil? 3. What oils to gearbox, clutch and front suspension?

I have a 1974 Montesa Cota 247T and I would love to hear any suggestions this board might have for upgrades and modifications for this Cota. I have installed a new Michelin rear tube type tyre, a new Vee Rubber front tire, both with new tubes and rim strips. I have a new 9 tooth front sprocket and a 56 tooth rear with new chain. The bike runs well using the stock well worn Amal carb, along with a strange looking non stock airbox that works well. I need a new front brake cable, swing arm bushings are shot. I have set of after market weld on footpegs to replace the horrible stock 1 inch wide pegs. Should I locate them down and back?? I have heard about getting the stoc…

Hello All I have just pruchased a 349 82-83 model. Silver frame and Forks, Red plastic tank and white aftermarket guards. It needs the uasual things to get it running. The rear muffler is not correct. Does anyone know where I could get one, it's the rectangular type. I have spoted a 348 but not a 349. I really need help with the Timing measurement in mm, I guessed it at 2.5 BTDC but have no idea. Also what oils are used in the clutch and gear box and quantity please. Regards Trials09

I have a follow up question in my search for new rear shocks for vintage trials competitions. What does "Damping" mean and what is the actual different in riding with "standard damping" or with "light/ super light damping"? Thanks.

Hi. I’m looking at getting back into trials as soon as we are out of Lock down. I’m looking at TYs and wonted some advice; - apart from the obvious what’s the differences between the 175 and 250s. I’m guessing the 250 is heavier and perhaps has a longer wheelbase but probably pulls better with greater torque? Any views on how they ride by comparison? - what benefits do the Majesty modifications make and are these actually worth it for a club rider? thanks

Hi New to this. I am rebuilding a Ossa 350 yellow gripper and surprise surprise it hasnt got an airbox. Does anybody out there know of the whareabouts of one?

  12. Just got my bike (1985 Can-Am 240 Trials - Frame #21) and LOVE how it rides and feels! Need to adjust a few things, but that Rotax motor has plenty of low end to pull me up and over most anything. Put a few miles on the odometer at a local vintage trials event, and was smiling the entire time. New decals and touch ups and this pretty bike will look new again. Thinking about improving the pegs, and maybe new shocks one day. Already put a set of Dunlop GP tires on it, and they seem nice and grippy. I'll dream up more things to do, but for now, will just enjoy my new ride!!! Any and all Can-am/Armstrong info, suggestions are encouraged and welcome! UPDATE! Got t…

Should Twin Shock events have sections in a traditional style or should we join the hip-hop crowd?

A while back I fitted a pair of wide foot pegs to both my bikes but on the TLR200 the kickstart hits the peg - it wasn't an issue as the peg was pretty tight and would stick in the fold back position out of the way. Downside was every time the peg hit an object it would stick and my foot would then be flailing around looking for the folded peg. So I oiled the springs and now the pegs are flicking back with alacrity - but now the bloody kickstart hits the peg. I have a 3 inch piece of number 8 fencing wire that can be hooked onto the peg to hold it but it is very clumsy and tedious as it has to be engaged by hand and that isn't always convenient. Idea's anyone

Hi, sorry if this subject's been covered before but can anyone advise me on the correct way to preload the shocks on a twinshocker? I have a nice new pair of Betor shocks which have preload adjusting rings but I'm only guessing at the amount of preload I use so the shocks may not be working as well as they might. Also how do you determine the shock spring rate Is this just down to feel and experience? I'm assuming if the springs are to soft it will bottom out easily, to hard and it will kick on small stuff. Thanks in advance.

Hi , I have my first LDT this weekend. Feeling nervous. Having spoken to the organiser she assured me i'd be ok; there is a small girl riding a big bike staring behind me and she is ok. I am a big bloke on a small ty175, i think i will just look funny if nothing else. Anyway what should i know? Any tips? Biggest question is tyre pressures - do i have a set pressure for the day with road work and sections, or pump them up and let them down as i go - and what pressures should i use? cheers

Can anyone help me with identifying an OSSA basket case i recently purchased. The frame No is B-700029 and all the identification charts i have seen start with B-71**** Its has a black frame with the brake pedal on the right/cable on the left, and the swinging arm spindle slots are enclosed. I have been told it could be a TR77 Verde but also been told its a MAR , Plonker . If anyone got any ideas it would be appreciated.

Hi PASTED IN FROM CLASSIC SECTION Well I have got the new Mikuni VM26 set up with a 150 main and 30 pilot. Starts pretty good, and runs cleanly but it is now missing when it gets hot. I am running it on 33-1 and with the air screw by 1.5 turns out. Rubber inlet hose in good condition with no leaks. Looking at the plug I have noted that the NGK BP-7ES look pretty hot (ie no hint of soot, and a copper hue). Could this be the problem. Any thoughts of the next step to get the bike running cleanly. Is it worth changing the plug (to what type?), revert back to 25-1, or backing out the airscrew. Or all of the above! Thanks in advance Chris Posted 13 September 2011 - …
