Twinshock

How does a 1980 Montesa 349 compare with the big bore Sherpa T from 1980? Having never been on a Montesa I,m curious if they,re both good,just different and if one is easier to ride for a not so good rider(me).They did a comparison in CDB,but it didn,t seem fair to compare the Montesa with a Puma Sherpa T.

doe's anyone remember these trials bikes, never seen or heard of them?

I am in the process of rebuilding my Majesty 250, and I need to know what to do with the forks. Should I rechrome the origional TY forks as they always seemed to work ok or should I fit forks from later bikes with a leading axle. I cant get any TY mono forks as the are like hens teeth and have dodgy hubs, but have managed to find a set of 35mm Marzocchis complete with wheel and brake plate. Could any one tell me what advantage leading axle forks have other than better damping. Thanks to anyone who can help. Mark

hi i have an swm 240 and have had some ignition trouble. it would run fine for about half an hour then would stop sparking, i have replaced the complete ignition system (stator winding, condenser, points, ht coil and plug). this has solved the problem and it ran fine for two trials but during the most recent trial it started misfiring on a long climb. since then it will start and idle ok, but when i ride it splutters and backfires a lot. could this be the condenser breaking down? i have also cleaned the carb and tried a different clean carb but no change in the symptoms. so im pretty confident its not fuel related. please help as im very frustrated with it. thanks

This is a '78 (I think) 247 and the forks seized. I got the first one apart, but it wasn't easy, and some stuff dropped out...like a rubber seal and a snap ring! Maybe if I'm really careful, I can get the other one apart and be sure how to put them both back together. Also...I know that there are some aluminum bits that bind. Could someone tell me what needs to be done to get these working smoothly? And if someone could lead me to a parts diagram... Thanks!

A t/s rookie question, I keep seeing this reference to the 'more modern riding position'....is it simply lower footrests or are riders looking for more than that? ...for instance what is the more 'modern handlebar positioning'....where does the 'body' sit 'in' the bike etc. ...is it all just an aid to go from new to old t/s's or is the 'modern position' a better set-up period? I've owned 4 trials bikes, 1980 Sherpa 250, 2003 Monty 315R, 2002 Beta REV and now my 1980 SWM if that helps someone to explain things..but never owned more than one at a time! thanks for your patience guys

Hi All Newbee here looking some advice for a KT250 resto project I just started. Going to try my hand at riding trials next spring and preping a bike to learn on. I would like to do a complete resto, as best as possible within reason, since I do want to ride the bike. It looks pretty complete but have already seen parts that dont match the Parts Manual I bought. Are there any KT250 folks here? Current parts I know I need to source are - Seat - Carb,air box boot - Sprockets and Chain Would ike to add a compression release, since head is drilled for it already, anyone do this? Most shock absorber makers offer a choice of 40 or 50 ib spring rating, I realise that the angle the shocks are mounted at, distance forward of the rear wheel spindle & weight of rider all make a difference but is there a guide as to which spring is most suitable.

Hi, Has anyone out there been able to rebuid the stock (Showa) shocks on a TLR250 ?? I have bought some NJB Trick Shocks which are great, BUT the longest I could buy were still a bit shorter than the stock lenght of the TLR shocks. This has upset the steering geometry & my bike now steers like a bus. I have dismantled my stock TLR shocks as much as I'm capable of; does anybody know if you can buy seals? Shaft is 12.5mm. It looks like the cap will spin off the shock body with a special tool. Thanks, Gary B.

Has anyone tried these shocks, they sound ideal for someone returning from a mono bike (me) to a twin shock, my mini majesty has oldish gas betors, is it worth spending

thinking of fitting disc front brake to a twinshock to be rode in club twinshock events and blue bar richmond ,is this allowed or is it not complying to rules also whats the rules on an early mono converted to twinshock

Hi, I've got a fiberglass seat base. Ive got a foam seat pad which sits perfectly on it. The challenge that I have is when I wrap it in vinyl I'll need a good finish so need it tight in place. How do I hold the edges down , tucked underneath?? Fiberglass won't staple will it? Glue won't stick well enough. I could screw it in many places. Is there a better way?.

Hi I wonder if theres any one out there that can help me. I am doing up an old Montesa cota 200 and have found that it has no spark. I have tried a new plug, coil and plug cap. is there any way of testing the generator? also could the condensor cause this? Thanks for any help.

For my sins i decided its about time i got the old Ossa back up and running. Its been sitting in the corner of the garage for the last 10 years while other projects have been soaking up funds (sound familiar?) Now i've never stripped an Ossa before. Plenty of Bultaco's and Montesa but not the Ossa. Anybody know of anything or any special tools i will need? also parts seem almost like the "Holy Grail" always promised but never actually there. One last cycle part i need is an origional airbox. I know i could get one fabricated but would like to restore to origional. Anybody got one holding the shed door open?? So any advice and or location of parts will be greatfully receiv…

Does anyone have any good advice on fitting a tubeless 4.00x18 rim to a Sherpa rear hub, 36 hole?. eg where to get a suitable rim, could a Montesa type rim be fitted as the Sherco system doesn't seem to hold air for any length of time when used hard, any pitfalls to be aware of?. Thanks. PS I've just found an earlier post on this subject with good info from Nigel Dabster. What type of Yamaha hub do you mean Nigel, it must presumably be a 32 hole setup for the Sherco rim?.

does anyone know of any clubs in the yorkshire area that run twinshock classes at thier trials? i would like to be able to put together a full "season" of events if possible, any advice appreciated. paul.
