Twinshock

Buying a pair of rear shocks for my TY175, I don't want to spend the earth on a pair but in the same breath I want a decent pair. NJB Expert Shocks seem to fit the bill

right im getting a bit confused on what route to enter my majesty 250 in? i done a local trial and entered the red route (middle) and although i cleaned a few sections i also got a fair few 2-3's and 3 sections were almost impossible! this last few may have been down to lack of experirence? on the easy route there was quite a few brand new (modern) bikes being ridden! this got me thinking should i be on the easy route and try a few harder sections? (bearing in mind im on a 27 year old bike with drum brakes etc! etc!) as and when i come across them? this trial was an inter trial with 50/50 routes! the trial wasnt a twinshock/classic one, if your a clubman/sportsman…

As I said in the title I’m looking to upgrade the shocks on my 61 tiger cub. I’ve seen tons of trials builds on tiger cubs and they look great, but I’m not too interested in doing trials (nowhere even near me to do them). I don’t know an insane amount about bikes, just enough to keep mine running, but what weight shocks would I need for a bike that I rip around on trails every other weekend with? I used to spend a lot of time doing motocross and just want something that I can do similar things with, I already have a heavy weight fork but I’ve seen trials suspension be only 40-50 pounds while some motocross shocks hit 70. Should Twin Shock events have sections in a traditional style or should we join the hip-hop crowd?

What twinshock in your opinion will be worth the most in five years time? I'd say of the big three , The Ossa mar should in theory be worth the most as they were the least sold! so would that make them more sought after?

I have led a sheltered life, in my sporadic trials carrer spaning close to 5 decades now i have only experience with a few engines. BSAs bantam cota 123 and ty250B s oh and a ty80 Now recently considering an engine swap then deciding against it, i got to thinking did the members of this forum have any particular engine type or capacity that they would chose for their ulltimate air cooled twin shock project. What engine what capacity and why exactly detailing what it is about its power delivery torque respone etc etc you like so much about this particular engine.

I've just followed a link on this twinshock forum from Woody ( thank you Sir) and ended up looking at a photo of a lean, mean looking Armstrong 320, I know nothing... ....about this type of bike, where did they come from, where did they go, how come we're not all riding the 21st Century version? This has probably been discussed before, ad nauseum, but....I think I'll be selling a bike or two and reconfiguring the herd, and I might have a few bucks left over. There's what looks like a pretty cool vintage club around here, and I just might throw my hat (helmet?) in the ring. I'm not interested in thumpers...not to ride, anyway...what I'd really be looking for is the twin-shock with the most modern manners. I've owned a TY175, but, as a lad, always coveted the Bultacos and Montesas...so I have unresolved Spainish bike issues. Hi guys , just wanted an opinion on whats the best bike out of a 250 beamish or a yam 250 majesty (i own both) to use for some green laning (twisty tight stuff) and in between minimal roadwork! i'd guess the suzuki as its quiter and smoother,less vibey? but havent tried both on the road so dont know? can only insure one of them so which one? (i know these bikes are not road bikes but a friend has just bought a 250 beamish and suggested doing the above!) thanks in advance.

Had the hub welded twice. The first weld lasted good but the 2nd weld is disintergrating into thin air . It was painted immediately after welding. The weld took well and its only thin so preheating perhaps isnt really needed ?Ive read that preheating the mag to 200 degrees in only needed on thick material. Ive never seen anything like this before and the welder who didnt seem ti understand it either .The weld is magnesium as ive done the vinegar test. My guess is that perhaps the wrong mix of mag / alloy rod was used OR it been contaminated. I find the contamination theory strange as the hub was taken back to the brake liner , so all was there was the steel. I dont wa…

Would love to now more about this type of bike spotted at the DK Mansell trial last Sunday, there were two of them riding round...a brief chat with one of the riders, he mentioned tha the motor was made in China (a Honda copy?) 200cc and very sweet sounding indeed.

Hi all I am thinking about having the front wheel rebuilt on my Majesty, and was wondering if I fitted a conical hub could I still use the Yamaha rim which origionally had a full width hub or would I have to buy a new rim. Thanks. (please dont reply if you are going to say that this is against the spirit of twinshock trials, as I have numerous pictures of Mick Andrews and Shirty etc on bikes with conical hubs and leading axle forks back in the day. You know who you are)

I'm just about to start restoring my recently purchased Montesa 330 and one of first jobs I was looking to do was get the wheels rebuilt with stainless spokes and whilst split get the hubs powdercoated. Obviously this has been before and I would appreciate those of you who have had wheels done to share your experience's with me and any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks
