Anyone built Akront alloy rims from the seventies with Stainless spokes?

A bit of advice or your views needed I have a 1982 Godden framed Majesty 175, which I fancy riding in a Twinshock classes at club Trials and maybe progressing further if I like it or my results are good enough. The bike is mechanically very sound and everything works fine,with all maintenance up to date with everything replaced as necessary. I've never trialled it, just ridden a few times at a practice ground. Cosmetically it's pretty good also with all the correct Majesty modifications and parts,the wheels were already respoked and fitted with new rims,plus IRC tubed tyres. It has a SM chromed front pipe (which some say produces more torque.......does it?) and new F…

A t/s rookie question, I keep seeing this reference to the 'more modern riding position'....is it simply lower footrests or are riders looking for more than that? ...for instance what is the more 'modern handlebar positioning'....where does the 'body' sit 'in' the bike etc. ...is it all just an aid to go from new to old t/s's or is the 'modern position' a better set-up period? I've owned 4 trials bikes, 1980 Sherpa 250, 2003 Monty 315R, 2002 Beta REV and now my 1980 SWM if that helps someone to explain things..but never owned more than one at a time! thanks for your patience guys

Hi, i have just bought a Montesa Cota 348 1978 bike. Does anybody know the correct 2 stroke mix and any advice on synthetic or regular? I was told 25% but that seems high. This might be a daft question, it has a twin plug head, one central and one offset. Why? Am i ment to swop the ht lead over depending on what kind of riding i am doing? Thanks for any advice. Jim

Hi All I have a really random and very subjective question for you all. As the title says, what is the easiest twin shock to ride? The reason I ask this odd question is I have a medical condition that causes me to get excessively fatigued from even light physical activity. However I refuse to give up riding just yet and before I do I'd like to ride a twin shock. I do like the look of the TY175's and the Fantic 200, would these be physically tiring bikes to ride? I bought this 1983 Jumbo last weekend. I plan on using it for twinshock competition next year. The fellow I bought it from has two other Jumbos, which I believe, are the only other ones in Australia. One is in bits and is missing the frame. Everything else is there, including plastics, swingarm and bolts, just no frame. Apparently it became a backyard monoshock project and then vanished into the never never. Does anyone have one they can spare - I would love to buy it from you. I would like to fit wider footpegs, but the kickstarter will not clear them. I believe that an Aprilia Climber kickstarter will fit and will clear my wider pegs. Any one know if this is true? I …

Hi guys, I'm after some advice on anodizing wheel rims. I've got a pair of good condition old rims off a early Gas Gas I believe, the rear is tubeless but is the older type with the spoke nipples through the rim. The rims were a dull silver colour as common on most bike of that era. I took them to a small local Anodizing company who reversed the anodizing process so I could get the rims polished. They now are nice and shiny with no scratches. I took them back to the anodizing company to have them done black, I asked the knowledgeable gentleman to HARD anodize them but he was very reluctant and advised against it due to a high copper content of the…

Is there anything wrong with using a Tubeless Dunlop D803 with a tube in it, on my vintage Twin shock? How different are the two tires; Tube Type & Tube Less. I thought I ordered Tube Type, but just realized they say Tubeless on the side. Again, they are Dunlop D803's. Thanks

Almost done its taken ages due to things out of my control, just waiting for a rear silencer to finish it, dont know whether to keep it or sell it would be a shame to get it dirty after all the work thats been done.

Looking to make a new back wheel spindle for my Cota 200 to replace the old rusty thing!! And was wondering if anyone new which grade of aluminium is best?, I plan to copy my Gas Gas pro spindle bit a bit longer. Thanks Ian

Well, against many peoples advise that I respect I bought the little TL-125 down the street. I just couldn't help it. This was more of an emotional purchase than a logical one...... I'll probably end up with a twin shock bike that will actually haul my weight at some point but this is fun for now!!! My mate Tim just acquired a Dalesman and we have started on the restoration/rebuild process. There is no frame number but the log book shows the frame number as the engine number but with a '1)' in front and also that it was registered in March '69 by Terry Silvesters in Holmfirth. The story goes that they sold it to their sponsored rider who may or may not be a Mr Anthony, the second owner. Just wondering if any of you folks across the pond (besides Steve Saunders) have used the new to the market Maxton trials shocks ? I've heard that they are the best out there , bar none ... Well am new to all this forum stuff, so hear goes, I found a old Armstrong 320 frame in the garage the head stock has broken at some point and had been welded up (not a good job) so have decided to remove the lower tube and alter the angle of the forks to give a more modern riding style with better steering. Not to sure if to copy the beta rev 3 angle or just bring in few degrees also whot is the best way to weld the frame Thanks.

Hi, just a thought but other than kudos and styling do the Majesty/Whitehawk 175/200 bikes offer anything over and above a well sorted standard ty and are they worth the extra premium they fetch? Thanks in advance.

So a rather rusty but very cheap CG miraculously appeared in my garage. I'd had one as my first road bike when I was seventeen and went everywhere on it. But I was a bit unsure of what to do with this one. It was too rusty and worn to keep as it was so it needed sorting out. A couple of mates have RTXs which they are putting on the road and that was when the penny dropped. The CG needed to become the trials CG! Or rather trials-ish CG.
