Pre-65 Bikes

As some of you know i have finally succumbed and gone over to the dark side and am in the process of building a Bantam. So a few questions as i am a bit confused. 1. Have any of you used the new conrod assemblies, obviously Chinese, from Rex Caunt ? If so what are your experiences ? 2. The popular, and cheap which i like, mod is to swap 2nd and 3rd gear over. Do you find this adequate or do you wish you had spent the extra and fitted a low 2nd gear ? 3. Again the popular mod is to fit the Suzuki 185 piston but i notice that Rex Caunt sells a piston with a correct size gudgeon pin for the Bantam small end so you dont need to make a bush to fit. BSA On ebay: BSA C15 It seems a very nice bike, but if Im not mistaken that seems to be a B25 with a B25 Frame (pre oil in frame) The B25 was made 1968 onwards What would happen if you tried to enter this bike in a Pre65 trial?

In the process of building a pre 65 two stroke, never did get on that well with 4 strokes, so all i need now is a Villiers 32a or 37a engine. Anybody got one spare? Not bothered about the condition as i expect to have to replace the bearings etc anyway. Just dont want any holes or cracks. So can anybody help?

Got the chance of a D1 competition(been checked by the BSAOC its genuine) for not alot of money.Thinking of building it and trialing it.Am I mad or should I polish it and just look at it,think I'll use it how it was intended. cheers the noo Brian

Help Just discovered play between the clutch centre and basket on my B40. How much is acceptable, if any ? Might new roller bearings help, or is it time for (gulp) new clutch assembly. Any info appreaciated. Ross

For once, everything organised for the Manx Classic- ferry booked months ago. Had a letter this morning- Steam Packet Co has 'revised' our sailng times due to 'ongoing technical problems with the vessel'(really inspires confidence about even going!) Now we arrive just in time for signing on - providing the boat's not delayed/breaks down, effectively losing nearly a day. If thats not bad enough, try contacting them, you just sit in a queue for hours, on a national rate call, adding to their profits. E mails ignored of course. Has anyone got any sense out of these cowboys?

Is there any reason why this system cannot be shortend so that the silencer sits tucked away where the oil tank was sited. Does it affect running to shorten the manifold pipe? Also how do you get a lighter clutch? apart from the right cable/routing what other mod's are there to get a lighter action?

Does anyone know where I can get the front fuel tank retaining rubber strap, the type used on the Holtworks style tank that hold around the mushroom / bobbin type thing at the front. Thanks in advance

O.k. I fitted the earlier 'R' Cam to my late engine, no problem. Replaced the primary drive chain and it now runs smooth and quiet. Made some parts to allow me to run the bike without the right hand outer cover on. This would allow me to spot any oil leaks from the gear lever shaft and outer cam bush. I also replaced the push rod tube top and bottom gaskets with new items. All is well apart from oil spewing out of the top of the push rod tube around the gasket. (see photo). I tried the thicker one when I assembled engine (without the push rods fitted) but it seemed to be holding the head off the barrel. I put a smear of sealant around the push rod …

Here's the problem, I have a what appears to be a feked off part-widened and lengthen swing arm and a 4x18 tyre on my rear wheel, to get the chain to run straight and clear the shock (already spaced slightly out) by a millimetre, the tyre has to be moved on to the left giving very limited clearance on that side and the wheel does not sit centrally in the swingarm. This does not seem right to me but I have nothing to compare it against. To me it seems that the swingarm is not wide enough, and maybe the sub frame is to narrow causing the shock interference. Has anyone else experienced these issue, am I just missing something?

I've unearthed a Villiers 11e engine from the back of the shed. I've been told it's likely to have come from an invilid car, but wanted to ask if these are any good as the basis for a trials bike? And if so, what are the best frame options?

Can anyone help identify this Alloy barrel which came with some Villiers engine parts ?,it fits Villiers 37A cases and is 66mm bore . I'm sure its a trials barrel not scrambles

Hi there Following on from my previous topic on gearbox sprocket.... I got a 13T sprocket off Villiers services to replace my 17T with and at the same time decided to change the cork clutch plates for ferrodo. Sent my plates away for exchange, everything arrived - all good..... Disassembly, went OK, everything removed etc fitted 13T gearbox sprocket Reassembly ..... problem.... There is now about 3-4mm lateral play on the splined shaft that the clutch fits on, therefore when the clutch is re- assembled the clutch actuator simply pushes the entire clutch assembly out rather that pushing the pressure plate out against the springs ??? Any idea what could have gone wron…

Hi, My friend Walter bought a Tiger Cub 200 with the old (original) carb, which does not seem to run well. He would like to mount a new but Pre65 (Scottish) eligible carb, maybe an Amal 622. What do you recommend? Where can I order one already jetted for a 200cc Cub? Plus manifold. What about the heat protection, distance to the cylinder? Otherwise, what about a new Oko 22 flatsilde for clubtrials? Which jetting there? Thanks for some hints. Patrick from Switzerland

Hi all. I intend to build a pre 65 trials bike using a 1959 Francis Barnett frame I have the original wheels and was going to use the original hubs but they are iron (heavy) and a bit bit clapped generally. Does anyone know where I can some small diameter alloy full width hubs? I saw some on a Cotton ( I think ) on this forum and they were lovely. I have been Googling for hours now and just keep going round in circles with no result. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, recently I have been thinking about buying a pre 65 bike. I ride twinshock at the moment and would like a Tiger Cub bike to occasionally ride some easy routes on. I understand that some started life as a factory trials bike and some were converted from road bikes to trials. I think I’d rather get a factory trials machine. Is there any advantage to either? And is there a definitive way to identify exactly what model the bike is, can you tell from engine/frame numbers? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

hey after looking to bild an ariel i've changed my mind, it wil be a B40 what frame options are there? (prefer oil in frame) i would like to bild something like Martin Wilmore's bsa (not the super special one that looks like a sherco) advise on the engine is very welcome to i would like it to be powerful, smooth and high reving (like my sherco) and the clutch must be good does anyone have email adress of M.
