Pre-65 Bikes

Not that i need one yet,but i hear talk that a lot of people when getting a rebore are opting for a kawasaki piston. What piston is it and what bike was it originally used on,just for future reference as i believe it will come in hondy for future reference. Regards Dan

What spark plug are you fellow Triumph Cub riders using please, is one with a projected nose better or stay with the ordinary type, if NGK should it be a 5 or 6 heat range?

Trying to identify this Royal Enfield so i can suggest a value to it's owner.I'm not selling it and won't make a penny out of it.The owner has lost his storage due to circumstances beyond his control,his friend contacted me as he knows little about older bikes and asked for advice.I've explained that dating Royal Enfields can be a bit hit and miss.He found an old buff logbook for a 1948 350 Royal Enfield which shows Frame number and Engine number as 19499 and reg as what looks like JFJ210 ,next time he goes he'll look to see if the numbers are on either the bike or the frame and engine next to it.As i understand it this would be a very early "Bullet" type.What i need to k…

I am putting the final touches to a James am building got it started and there was a intermitant noise comming from the engine and think have found the problem I have fitted the smaller front sprocket and the chain is slightly rubbing the front crank case with the seal I brought all the parts from villiers services and they said I need to use a die grinder to make it fit thats OK, and I mention the play on the clutch hub shaft (9E conversion on 8E gbox) and they told me there is an adjuster behind the gearbox casing where the push rod goes through but cannot find any details apart from the play should be 0.02" just need an idea how to do it also I have to align the fron…

Hello All – Hoping to sort a rich running 1961 Triumph Tiger Cub Trials bike fitted with a large valve head (E4102) and Amal 622/300 MK1 concentric carb. The main jet is a 140. Does anyone run a similar setup? What jets are you using? Thanks in advance. Moray

Hi I've just purchased off a friend a TR20 with matching frame and engine nos, I've been told it could be a works bike as it only has a 3 numbers after the TR20 which is unusual. According to the story they began the production run on the TR20 110 and the first 15 were works riders and the one I've got falls within these numbers, but again I'm not sure it's just hear say as is it could have belonged to Roy Peplow??Any help or could you point me in the right direction. We also have lots of reg numbers and wonder if one could belong to this bike. Thanks Paul

I have a 6E 197cc Villiers engine and I'm looking to increase usable power. One way is to use a 1H piston and bore the barrel out to 225cc. I managed to get hold of a standard 1H piston, not an easy item to find. My dilema is the piston weight and increased imbalance of the crank. The old standard 197cc Villiers piston weighs 250g. I rebored it to +20th for a Hepolite dykes ring piston when I got the bike and this piston weighs 275g. The 1H Villiers piston I have weighs 300g! The thought of an extra 2oz/50g flying round at 4000rpm is a bit worrying. Even with the Hepolite piston, which I now assume to be a racing piston for Karting, there is quite a bit of vibrati…

Hello everyone, right then, a pre65 James with a villiers 8e in, now I want to stay within the spirit of pre65 so, can anyone advise on the best engine eg stick with what I have or go for a 32a? Would anybody have written down what the ammount of teeth on 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th on Cub trials gearbox, plus front primary, and chain front and back had everything written down myself and put away somewhere, and now cannot find the stuff☹️ Vinnie

Hello, i found out my bsa does not have the WD gearbox where can i find the proper gears? what gears are in a road bsa? mine are 18/32 23/27 27/23 26/17 anyone knows who makes alloy barrels for the bsa? best regards bob

Hi Folks. Rode my brothers greeves today at peak clasic and had a great time. Makes it more frustrating that I cant find a subframe for my TFS as I have pretty much everything else. Have tried the nice people at Greeves several times but they never seem to have the time to sort it out. Can anyone help me out with a contact or better still have one lying around !!! Back brake would be good too.

Can anyone help me? I need a new trials frame for my B40. Looking at a Faber Mk3 but am being put off by reports that Faber can be difficult to deal with. I'm near to Preston, Lancashire. I believe there is a frame make by the name of Roger Heap. Has anyone got his details? Jeff

I have just been offered a bsa b40 by a guy at work. Its not in bad nick, but is in road spec. Can anybody tell me what needs to be done to make it into a half descent pre-65 mount. Please bear in mind that I dont need a ultra trick comp winning bike, as it would never win anything with me on it anyway, just a descent clubman hack. Thanks Mark

Hi Guys, Does anybody know any information on the following machine. BSA 441cc Victor ISDT machine. Registered No HOE 14D. I rode this factory machine in the 1966 ISDT in Sweeden. I would love to know of it's whereabouts, and what it is doing now. I have enquired of the DVLA but they inform me that as was not the registered owner of the machine BSA were, they can not tell me where the machine is now or who the registered owner is. Basicaly the machine was a 441 cc Victor scrambler. It was modified for the ISDT, one of the striking features was a large alloy fuel tank basicaly the same shape as the standard Victor one. I do have a photo of the machine but for some reason …

Has anyone tried the Mikuni off a Beta on a C15 or other Pre-65? The 26 mm size seems somewhat appropriate but I'm wondering if jetting would be a major effort.
