i am just about to order an Amal for my 199cc cub (Mk 1 22mm) but was wondering if there are many different set ups out there? i have searched but only came up with a couple of spec's. I am sure the 230/250's are not the same so just want the main, pilot etc please for the standard 199cc.

I am looking at using an AMAL concentric on a C15. Overall the carb looks OK. The slide has no visible uneven wear but it is a loose fit in the carb body. It probably has close to 1/6" movement when pushed back and forth, front to back. Is this normal for a 376 carb? If not normal, can I just replace the slide? What is the carb body made of? It is heavy like cast iron. Correction...this is a mono block. The slide is light like aluminum.

Many of you may already know this and if so apologies for stating the obvious. having recently purchased 2 Amal Mk1 carbs, the premier type, i was dismayed by the strength of the slide spring, I am no weakling but you needed two hands to open the the throttle, lso when it snapped back it sounded like the throttle stop screw was going to bust off. living quite close to the AMAL people in Salisbury, i dropped in to have a moan and ask if they had any suggestions. They were very helpful and merely said. oh yeah loads of people complain, you are not alone, we fit the throttle slide spring out of the carbs that go on the triples, alot of trials and motocross boys do it. …

Just wondered if any other Bantam riders are using a earlier 3 spd engine ? If so what gearing etc and have you had any problems? I use a 4 speed myself but rarely see any 3 speed out there.

Help! Just bought a 250 Greeves. Bike's in Scotland. Need assistance to collect it! Seller is willing to take the Greeves to Kinlochleven during SSDT week for collection by anyone who's up there from down south. Would be more than willing to contribute to petrol and transportation costs - ideally to Gordon Farley's in Guildford (who would give it a checkover etc.) but anywhere south would do (I could then arrange delivery to GF's). Does anyone have space on their trailer or van?

Earlier this summer, rode my HT up to Solihull British Legion where I play snooker and meet my mates, when an old chap who I`ve often said hello to but never really spoke to showed an interest in my bike. Turns out he rode in ISDT`s on Triumphs in early 60`s( Wales and Garmisch) and rode works James ( I think) at some stage. He said he rode sleeved down 175 Cubs in ISDTs amongst other things, and since then I`ve done some work at his house, where he took me to his garage and showed me a pretty impressive large cardboard box of trials/scrambles trophys from 50s/60s. He`s early 80s now but still fit and well and wonder if any old friends/foes are on here?

Still working on my 'new' 500 long stroke Ariel The carb is an Amal concentric 626 and it's worn. Specifically the slide is very worn with loads of movement in the bore but a new slide is very tight which suggests a poor / distorted body. The jetting is bushed pilot, 106 needle jet, 160 main jet, 3.5 slide. Now I could order a new carb with the same jetting but I think people are using 622 carbs these days to improve low speed running and control. If that is the case would I keep the same jetting and slide in the smaller carb or would I have to change it?

Have just purchased a 500cc Ariel and I'm wondering what gearing people are using. Currently its Primary drive 14/42, Final drive 16/48, gearbox described as standard GB47 It feels high geared to me (across the garden), just don't know how much to lower it
