Pre-65 Bikes

I'm thinking of buying some hubs for my Bantam. I know Alan Whitton does some but others are also available. I'd love to hear peoples comments and suggestions as to the pro's and con's of each. For example, I understand the Whitton hubs require over size brake shoes. Prices would be good too.

So I purchased a set of mz forks for my bsa c15 trials bike I'm building problem is my 35mm yokes are just that 35mm an the mz forks are 34.7 the options at the minute are shim out the gap using 6 tho shim wrapped round the stancions or bore out the yokes and turn a split bush. Re chroming is not an option as I don't even know if the forks are any good so don't want to waste 150 quid re hard chroming them.. any input welcome

Does anyone know the do's and don'ts re 35 mm yokes for use in the Scottish pre 65 trial. Trying to get my Bantam eligible, not too sure about the yokes. Whether I ride the trial remains to be seen but at least if the bike is eligible it's easier to sell if the time comes, But I will try to enter in the mean time when it's right.....

Took the bantam out for a shake down(broke the front mudguard ),after about 15-20 mins the poor little bike was getting a wee bit hot and started to die .The bike is running standard ignition,B6 plug,new amal concentric,foam filter.140 main jet,2.5 pilot.The plug was on the light side so probably needs a 150main?, is there any other ways to keep the wee thing cool and where can I get a inlet extension for the carb. as at present it only has a heat shield. cheers the noo Brian

What spark plug are you fellow Triumph Cub riders using please, is one with a projected nose better or stay with the ordinary type, if NGK should it be a 5 or 6 heat range?

Dumb questions of the day coming up: What's the benefit of the square head/barrel combination on Villiers motors, I come up with weight and better cooling, but is there anything else ? Seems every Villiers bike tested in magazines has a different head/barrel combination so there's many different types: Parkinson, Alpha etc. So what works best for trials motors and why ? I remember that the 210 Karting lads used the round combo, not sure if they were alloy replicas. If anyone needed better cooling I thought it would be them. hello all, please help me with my decision. i want an old british long distance trials (LDT) (or reliability trials as they were called back in the day) bike, not too worried about super trials ability. but should have reasonable road manners and able to cruse along at about 50mph (or close as possible). so would a 175cc 2 stroke be better than a 200cc 4 stroke?? i dont really want a full on trials bike more like a pre 65 green lane bike that i can do some LDT's on or should i be looking at something like a royal enfield 350cc 4s, james captin 200cc 2s an ariel or something completely different. please dont say an xr400, thats what i will be selling to fund this proje…

so I have built my c15 almost completely from jumble parts and its time to get her running however there is a problem.. the timing side bush I have turned up is slightly tight I really don't want to strip it back down an if I do I will prob just buy the bearing conversion.. however any one else had this problem when using a bush for timing side? it is very hard to kick over altho not impossible.. doesn't help that im using an m20 kickstart borrowed from a friend.. any ideas on how to loosen her and get the oil pumping round to loosen it up a bit??? any comments welcome

I've got a question about sprockets. Now i've always believed that ideally you should have an odd number and an even number i.e. 11 tooth gearbox and 42 back wheel to ensure wear was more even on both sprockets. However the std combination is 11 gearbox 41 rear wheel. Wouldn't this wear the sprocket unevenly. Alternatively have i had it wrong all these years or doesn't it matter any more ?

I have just bought a 1965 Fred Hardy built Tiger Cub to get into Pre 65 trials in addition to the twinshock stuff I'm doing. I have a few questions (I promise I have searched previous threads first): Oil - The bike came with "20w50" written on the tank next to the filler in the top frame tube. This is a custom made (by Fred) frame and I have no idea of oil capacity or what type to use. Various threads here and elsewhere suggest "Never use synthetic", "Always use synthetic" "Only use mineral" etc. I understand that there are three oils (Engine, gear and chain case) I have managed to find some information on capacity for gear and chaincase (half a pint from memory) but a…

Hi , as above my cub has one of Petes clutches .Question is does anybody else run one these with an Armac lightener ?, I can't seem to be able to get the action right ,if I adjust so as the bike will kick start ok this results in there not being enough leverage to disengage properly . Iam having doubts that this type of clutch will work with the said llightener . Any feedback or help would be great . Thanks .

hi all recently finished my project bsa c15 trials bike fitted with the above ignition system,all is well with the bike until it warms up then it develops a very bad misfire and loss of power,the engine has had complete overhaul the carb has been stripped and cleaned and all jets have been renewed just wondered if anybody has had any problems with these ignition systems as i am starting to think that the coil/cdi unit may be faulted. thanks chris

The performance of Pre 65 "heavyweights". Not C15's, not Cubs nor Bantams, but 4 stroke 350's, specifically the Enfield Bullets. Had Brit road bikes all my adult life, but my trials background experience is limited to air cooled 250 2 strokes, a Montesa 247 Cota a long time ago and currently a couple of ty250 mono's. Yes, I know they will be heavier, they won't turn as well etc etc. But, for anyone that knows, please tell me about engine performance compared to a 250 air cooled 2 stroke. Will they loft the front wheel over a log or obstacle with ease just on the throttle etc? Similar low to mid range torque to the ty monos (both have full weight flywheels)? Less…

Hi all, so I have ended up with a C15 Road bike in my garage ready to convert into a trials bike. I realise that it will never be as good as an Otter or Drayton framed bike but it's all I've got to play with at present. So what I want to low is what hubs do I use to get laced to the 19 rear and 21 front rims, do I use the C15 hubs that I have or do I use something different? Do I use the C15 forks or enter the minefield of Fork / yoke /wheel options? Bearing in mind I would like to maybe upgrade to an Otter / Drayton frame one day.
