Hello, I just bought a 1955 James Captain, it’s a surprise for my 84 year old Father he had one back in the day, I don’t pick it up til the weekend but I was hoping for some advice on a running issue that the current owner has mentioned, he said it starts easily and rides but won’t rev fully, I’m not that familiar with 2 strokes so thought I’d ask on here for any tips on where to start, thanks Mark.

I've just spotted this HT5 for sale, advertised on the leboncoin site. It's in France, just south of Paris and asking €9900, which is about £9000. Could be of interest to someone, but, alas, not moi.

noting the problem with all the various classes and routes in a modern classic trial why not go back to the system used when i started, we all rode the same sections no different routes, you just got on an rode the event , as a basic novice you struggled but learnt , your first clean was something to celebrate as you progressed to centre level then national trials ,my turning point was finishing a trial without stopping ,i may be an old fashioned sod but at seventy five i am still riding but now on a proper pre 65 outfit , a panther of course, cheers will

I've unearthed a Villiers 11e engine from the back of the shed. I've been told it's likely to have come from an invilid car, but wanted to ask if these are any good as the basis for a trials bike? And if so, what are the best frame options?

Hi All, Hope you are all keeping well, I am struggling to attain a few bits for my DMW MK15 trials bike which i am currently restoring. Would someone be able to guide me where I could post on the forum. As I am in need of a set of steering head bearings. No originals were found as the bike was in bits when I received it and was not then able to get measurements or part number. And I am looking for a complete exhaust for the bike. The frame bore for the bearing is 46mm outer and then chamfered to a depth of 12mm, Then inner bore of the bearing needs to be 32mm. I have been struggling for a few months now but after a show i have been to have been advised to pop…

Good morning all. Just waiting for the last few bits to arrive to rebuild the Cub engine. Just going through all the parts and found these four half washers in amongst the gearbox parts. Ive searched this site for an answer before posting to avoid duplicity , as I’m sure I’m not the first to ask this question, “ where do these go” ?, but was unable to find a post covering this. I have two approved Triumph manuals that Ive scoured but cannot find these half washers in any of the gearbox exploded views. Have I got them mixed up and they fit somewhere else? If someone could send me an image ideally I would appreciate it very much. Thanks everyon…

Hi Im trying to locate and buy a Royal Enfield bullet 4 speed Albion gearbox as fitted to the works bikes. I think the gearbox is the same as they fitted in the early 50’s trials and road bikes, recognisable by the separate (higher up) gear change lever. The bike I have was probably made from a late 50’s road bullet and so is fitted with the later wide gearbox, and I find it unsuitable for trials. If anyone can advise me as to where I might find a gearbox and what I should expect to pay I will be very appreciative.

Could someone advise a solution to a small problem please, I fitted a PVL ignition to a cub I'm building, it has the plate that mounts on the crankcase bolts rather than the modification of the 3 posts. when I try to fit the primary chaincase the bottom plate mounting stops the case going on. So before I grind off anything and completely B***s it up does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

Getting this off my chest. I do not expect any support in my post. I just wanted to say it and share it. I am a returning rider after a long lay off. I rode extensively in the North and mostly Cumbria. I managed to get to Intermediate standard which was hard to do. You had to win a Novice trial. Very hard 'upt North'. Once up a level you could not ride at a lower level. ie, No more Novice events or results. I now live in Suffolk and ride twin shock and Pre 70 bikes. I am 67 years old and ride the white routes. Here is my first gripe, why do those with far greater ability ride white routes? In some trials you ride as Expert and 50/50 but when it suits you ride the wh…

Good day all, question for those in the know. I have obtained a 1964 D7 Bantam 3 speed engine in quite good condition. I have had a good look at it and think it could be worth converting to trials format. It already has in its favour a B175 barrel and head plus a modified clutch. However here are the first problems found which leads me to my questions. I would like to reduce Primary sprocket from 17 to 12 the same as my BB175. I have spoken to Rex Caunt Bantam specialist who informs me if I fit the smaller sprocket he supplies the primary chain will not line up. ? 2nd I would like to reduce the gear box sprocket ideally to 12 but the D7 has a seal housing which would not …
