Trials Transport

Does anyone have any suggestions for best way to load bikes in the back of a Transporter? It's the LWB Kombi with three seats behind the driver/passenger ones, and the load bay is just a little too short for a bike in there straight. Also, the tie-down points are really badly located.... Has anyone made a decent rack to go in their's? Have thought of a couple of examples, but just looking to see how other people secure their bikes...... thanks

I don't have a nice toy hauler but I've got a 5th wheel camper with a standard side door. Been thinking of removing some furniture and loading up a gas gas pro inside for multi-day trips. Does anyone load bikes in the side door of a trailer and have any tips, suggestions or warnings they can share? Here is what I have:

I'm thinking of getting a Dave Cooper van rack for my bongo, it has an 85kg nose weight which is probably better than many vehicles that use racks but it has a fair bit overhang past the back axle. Has anyone used a trials rack on a bongo. It will be to carry a montesa Cota 247 initially Cheers

paid my tax at the weekend so i can get on and get a new ish van... so the Citian..can i get a bike in straight or does it have to go diagonally.. are they ok? any issues?..

My rear wheel drive 08 LWB Vito isn't good in the wet, and with winter not far away I am going to change the tyres,at least the rears, to see if I can improve both wet weather and of course muddy field performance. It's just a trials van so not desperately bothered about lifespan, just as long as I can get some decent traction when I need it. Had it for about six months now and know I'm going to be in bother if I don't change them. Do you go for town and country, snow?, or whatever. So, question is, are there any tyre experts out there or anyone with experience of my situation who can point me in the right direction on what to go for

Hello I noticed you van from the picture on your posts. it looks exactly like the kind of model i am going to start looking for in a couple of months. Can you give me some info about the model and where you got it? Also, do you have rear seats and can yoou still fit a bike in ok if so? Cheers Cubby

I just thought I'd post some piccies of the modifications I made to my standard DC rack for the lighting board. As you can see from the photos the lights and number board are all attached perminately to the rack. The off-side light has the number board illuminator blanked off so there is no visable white light from that side. The near-side lamp nicely luminates the rectangular number board. To attach all of this I got two lengths of captive nut channel used with 19" rack (electrical rack cabinets that is) equipment tack welded to the rack and then everything just bolts straight to it. A friend as asked if he can modify his old builders trailer into a bike trailer, or if it would now need to be type approved after the modifications? I would be handy if he did, as he wants to borrow mine!

Hello all, would anyone be able to tell me if my Peugeot Partner 2.0HDI could accomodate a bike rack to carry a Montesa 4RT. Its too much messing about getting a bike in and out of the back & although it does go in, it would be much nicer to lift it onto a rack. Thanks in advance Andy

My mate is trying to get his 4RT insured for the road, but none of the companies he has tried recognise it. I know that people have got them insured for road use, does anybody know which insurers people are using. Thanks Dave

Has anyone here any experience with a motolug http://www.motolug.com/index.php folding trailer that they can share? I know they are not the cheapest, but I like the idea of being compact to store and having the option to assemble it as a one or two bike trailer. If anyone has used one I would be interested in your feedback on the quality, ease of assembly/disassembly and how well it tows. Thanks in advance.

This recent article I seen on the MSN was talking about how folk relate to the MPG (miles per gallon) figures on US vehicles, and do not relate it to actual dollars! Makes me wonder what the comparison is with the euro vans and such, which are popular as it seems, of which we have few. Only the Sprinter(Merc) comes to mind, and they can be huge, depending upon configuration. I have not seen and cannot really relate to some of the others talked about here. Diesel or gas, what do you run? What does it cost? As the PU truck is still the standard here, and I feel somewhat fortunate as things go, to be able to load bike and gear into the big Dodge Cummins powered turbodiesel…

well, as i discussed in a previous thread , ive been building a new trailer...... i had a very good one, but it was too big and heavy and i wanted a more "trials bike specific" trailer.... so, i got the angle grinder out and set to work.... stripped the original trailer down to just the axle and wheels and began again from there..... heres what i came up with... all newly made bar the axle and wheels, fits 3 bike very securely on it, two forwards,one backwards..... im made up with the results and im happy for anyone to copy this as a patern for their own should they wish too... this picture shows the frame in a bit more detail, before excess bits where chopped …

I currently have a 14 plate Berlingo car which is great for transporting a single bike, the rear seats can unclip and can be taken out. I am considering buying a new Berlingo or Rifter car but notice in the new models the rear seats fold flat and there appears to be less less height available. Just wondering if anyone has a new shape vehicle and if can get a bike in easily.

I am soon in need of a new van , currently have a 04 kangoo , which have had from new and has been very very good. Am thinking of getting a new version kangoo (will buy a new van which ever make i get) but can anyone tell me if the new shape berlingo/partner is bigger than the new kangoo as regards getting a trials bike in straight rather than diagonal and is it easier to get 2 bikes in the berlingo than the kangoo? Don't think the peugeot/citreon reliability will be a problem on a new van but do the have any issues i should know about? Dont want a bigger van , had a scudo a few years ago and as i drive around all week with the van being empty it seems pointless…

Hello folks, My little red renault kangoo aka "the patmobile" has failed it's mot because it rotten and old and generally a piece of crap, so I am now in the market for a new set of wheels and considering one of the above.
