1st time ive whinged about a trial as ive marked them out in the past and know its a thankless and time consuming job but todays beginners trial was a joke. I even phoned to ask before making the 2 hr trip if it would be suitable for a 1st timer (my son) as its taken me 10 yrs to get him interested and after 1 lap struggling on it looks like he`ll never go again. The 1st two sections were ok but then it started getting silly. Im not hiding behind a computer to make this comment its just I thought it best to wait until id calmed down a bit incase I upset anyone. I just wanted to make a point and I know I wasnt the only one who had problems as there seemed to be quite a f…

Wrexham trial at the weekend was a bit of a strange one Some good sections (most if not all of them actually). I noticed on the web it said entries close an hour before the start, so I turned up just before 10 for an 11 o'clock start. The car park was already filling up, so I knew it was going to be a big entry. Queue for entries was massive, and start was delayed I think by about 45-50 minutes. Big queueing on the first lap - I didn't have my watch on, but seemed to be at least 2 and a half - 3 hours on first lap. I suppose we were a bit slower dragging round our two lads on Beta 50's. At about 3 the sun disappeared behind the hill, and almost immediately the ice c…

It's been kind of bothering me for ages but how do you actually pronounce his name? Is it 'Day-bill', 'Dab-ill', 'Dabble' or something else? Anybody actually know? And yes it's Monday, I've got too much to do but I'm bored.....

It's gratifying to know that our chosen sport is just about the safest motorsport there is. But nothing is totally safe, and medical events can happen anywhere (especially as many of us are no longer in the first flush of youth). I do think organising clubs could do a little more on this front. I know Golden Valley have a defibrillator that is placed at Section 1, but I only know that from the time I observed Section 1 for them. It has never been mentioned at signing-on or rider's briefing. At signing-on with another club, I saw what looked like an old tupperware box marked First Aid. So here are my suggestions for consideration: Each club should have a decen…

One for the panel. As an observer, I sholud like to have the opinions of others on the scenario below. Rider (often the better ones) gets well off line in a section and puts a foot down. Said rider then spends several moments hauling the bike through 90 degrees and lifting the machine to their favoured position whilst trying to keep their foot in contact with the ground. By the time they set off again their foot has moved through 120 dgrees and is a good 6 - 12 inches from where it origionaly touched the ground. I'm sure the rider will feel he has lost one mark, (new rules) but is that right. I find this applies more to the better riders as they are more likely to …

I would appreciate any info on the laws applying to going off-road with a motorcycle, particularly in Scotland. It used to be a simple matter of writing to the landowner and getting written permission to ride at your own risk, is this still the case? Cheers

Hi, is there a go to bike for beginners? my son is 18 and I’m looking for a bike for him. He’s never ridden a motorbike before so I’m expecting something easy to look after also.

I may have missed something, but i thought that outside assistance wasn't allowed at the Scott? Hence why do Dibs' and Shirty's reports both openly talk about changing wheels? Mr Jarvis was excluded a few years ago for an alleged bike swap. Whilst we're on the subject, my wife and my Mum walked the 1/2 mile or so along with our 3 kids (2 of whom pre-school) to see me at the final petrol check, where I am told there were multiple signs up stating "no vehicular access", so imagine their surprise to find a whole host of factory vans at said petrol check...presumably awaiting with fresh bikes/wheels to save the riders the bother of having to change front wheel punctures etc…

I'm interested to find out if anyone has had any experience completing the ACU risk assessments for trials events? How many different areas need to be assessed? In what depth do we need to go? What are the implications of getting a risk assessment wrong in the event of an incident? Any thoughts on the matter would be most welcome as I am faced with this task and I personally feel that the ACU's interpretation of what is required is a little..... lets say vague. Thanks

Hi Folks, I'm just getting to the end of rebuilding my Fantic 240 for the 2nd time (proper job this time!) and it's exagerated just how tatty the wheels are. Seems a shame to leave them as they are when the rest of the bike is looking so fresh, so I'm wanting to get the hubs/rims powder coated and them rebuilt with stainless spokes and nipples. The question is, can anyone recomend anyone who can do the job in the North West of England at a reasonable price? Failing that, how hard is it to try the rebuild my self and what equipment would I need? Happy to try most things once! Thanks very much, hope someone can help.

I fancy a change of practise scenery for a couple of days. I've been to Addingham a couple of times (although not for some time) and I'd like to head over there if it's still available for practise. Who should I contact and how much does it cost?
