I was informed today of the passing of a good friend and Yorkshire trials stalwart Norman Pickles. I have known Norman since the first trial I ever rode, giving me advice on what line to take, and quick to point out it was my fault when I messed up, again this year at the SSDT, he was keeping me right on what line to take at Trotters burn, while he observed the section. cheers old lad, they don't come any better.

Right then, A mate and myself are off up to the Steve Saunders Trials School on the 19th of this month. We've both been involved in bikes over the years with more history than I'm prepared to divulge right now due to me hitting 40 this year and he is of a similar vintage. We're both down to do the school to learn how to ride these things as with our combined histories, we've discovered it's not like anything else we've done before. Our aim is to compete in a trial and not compete against anybody else really - we just want to laugh at each others antics and take the michael out of each other. I'm having difficulty finding details regarding 3rd party liability cover for trials. I want some cover for my lad (10 years old) so that if he crashes into some one / something on private land or training grounds etc we would have cover. He's a member of the ACU through his club, so I'm assuming he has insurance cover as part of the ACU license, but again I can't find any details on the ACU web site around liability cover ? Any help appreciated

Apologies if Ive posted this in the wrong section, but does anybody know if the sunday trial is on or has it fallen victim to the snow ? It will save me getting up early if i know it is off. Can't get an answer from the club number. Gareth

So how many people should have been excluded for going over 20 minutes over their finishing time, but instead were just given 20 marks? According to the ACU "Riders will be penalised one mark per minute or part of that minute up to a MAXIMUM of twenty for late starting or arriving late at any subsequent time control, AND THEREAFTER DISQUALIFIED". I'm sure a few people were exactly 20 minutes late but not 25 riders in the A class alone.

Hi all, Sid here, based in North East London. Ive been biking all my life, but have recently got into trials. I want to get out a ride as much as I can. Working shifts gives me a shed load of free time during the week. I have just joined Berkhamstead MCC and plan on riding their ground at Nash Mills during the week. Well done to Graham Finnie and Kevin Dignan and all their helpers in Skye on Sunday on what had to be the worst trials weather in years. It was hard lines on the organisers and if the weather had even slowed to a monsson the day ,im sure , would have been 100% successful. As it was there was a high attrition rate and huge credit must go to all who finished especially the A,B,&C class schoolboys. Well done as well to all Lochaber riders and parents and congrats to all award winners. Keep it going I.O.S.MMC but lets have the next one in the winter it might be drier

I want to ride out of centre this weekend (sunday 18th). Can anyone recommend a trial. Looked in TMX but they are all to far away. I live in Bedfordshire and don't really want to drive more than 2 hours each way. Derbyshire area would be good but any where within reason is fine. Thanks Doogle

just got in from a very hard day at this trial.riding the hard route i cannot believe how much harder the trial was,yes it was a crap day,misty etc,but this trial seems to have lost its way.last year they had plenty of flowing sections riding straight up rivers,this year so differant,what does every body else think?.was the clubman route any good?.

Anyone know the results of todays trial, A and B routes?

I'm planning to go to Addingham Moorside this weekend but just wanted to check if this will be ok as its nearly 2 hrs away for me. Anybody know of a reason why it wouldn't be ok ? like is it still ok to practice there, is there a trial on there this weekend ? cheers

Hello everyone. I am considering getting a lisence and joining a club but i have no idea how go go about it. I am 17 and have a 250cc, can I compete on this bike??? I am located in the scottish borders 20 miles south of edinburgh and was wondering what clubs there are around here to join. My dad dug out an ancient fantic motors fluorecent orange helmet for me to wear which fits ok and i have motocross gloves, but i still need boots and trousers. I'm not wanting to spend megabucks, but at the same time i want something comfy and decent enough to last a while. Is there any particular brands i should look out for and are there any cheap places on the net that sell trials…

hi all, im a newby here. id like to start competing in trials competitions but i havent the foggyist where to start. i have owned a ty250 for several years but i now have a beta rev 3. i'm 22, what do i need to do in order to compete and where does it happen. are there any clubs local to mansfield (nottinghamshire). any help/info would be greatly aprecieated. ben

The Midland Centre Trial planned for today was cancelled due to lack of entries, so we decided to droop in on a local practice venue for a few hours. When we turned up, it looked more like a club trial with vans and trailers everywhere. I exagerate slightly, but by lunch time there were fifteen trials bikes riding around this little quarry and it made me wonder just how many people ride for fun and never (or rarely compete) in events? If 'us' fifteen riders had all entered the Centre Trial, then the chances are that there would have been enough riders to have made it viable for the organisers. What do you prefer?

Just read my e-mails, my local trials club tells me that the EU are seriously proposing that full face helmets must be worn for next season 2011, I mean wtf a full face helmet is restricting to vision and listening to revs of your motor apart from looking stupid, of all the years of being involved with trials riding wearing an open faced helmet why change it, I have only ever seen one bad accident in that time and that was the poor guys legs, what next ? should we be wearing a space type suit for 2012, what do you guys think.
