I am rebuilding a JCM 240 Europa from the late 80s. when I was replacing the fork seals ( I believe these should be Marzocchi ) I found the internals of the 2 forks are completely different. is this normal & does anyone have a parts diagram or any maintenance info on these forks?

Hello, Trying to learn about TY Yamaha's prepped by John Shirt in the mid 80's. I have one that I know has been in the US since 1985, I've noticed a few items that seem to be different than a stocker, Mine has John Shirt stamped in which appears to be a different style silencer than stock. Can any one tell me what John did to these bikes. Thanks, SB

Hello, So i'm looking for a spare engine for my TR35 Beta (50cc) The current engine spare parts are of Unobtainium or extreme expensive. The clutch is slightly worn out and i hope it will last some time. But i like the bike! So the idea is to run the bike for the rest of the season. And rebuild the bike this winter to twinshock & install new engine. AM6 / DERBI engine. +Lot’s of spare parts +performance upgrades. +Cost of a tuned engine quite high (70cc, good crankshaft, heavy clutch) -> 300-400€ + Engine size is quite the same, some welding required -Still a 50cc gearbox -> easy to fail -Water cooled (cost of radiator, non c…

Here I go again, trying to talk myself into or out of another motorcycle restoration. I've already started on the engine and I had been debating on keeping it as a "spare" but I have the frame it came out of.... So toying with the idea of jumping in on another one. Any words of encouragement or discouragement would be appreciated. I am missing the following parts: Fuel tank, seat, front wheel, front axel, and the brake light switch.

I took the 1984 TY 250 mono [ new to me ] out for a ride after stripping and cleaning the carb. I seemed to run great [ with the TY carb ] and pulled strong on the run. I had ridden some fast logging roads in 4th and 5th gear, then went to a single-track trail up a mountain. An hour into the ride I turned around to come back, and began picking my way down the rough single track in 2nd and 3rd gear using engine compression to slow the decent. 10 minutes later, the engine quit and would not restart, so, out with the spark plug and it looked to be very black. A new plug and I was good to go.....engine started easily and away I went. The black fouling on the plug *felt* on t…

I’m thinking of building a air cooled mono. I have an extra rebuildable Rotax 280 trials engine and exhaust. Just need a mono chassis. Any recommendations?

  18. Hi, I am having some issues setting up this air cooled mono, its recently had a full engine rebuild, I have cleaned out all the exhaust system and repacked it, i have had barrel off for inspection and this would appear to be correct, i have stripped the carb down and to be honest its very clean(original 26mm TK), it would run then suddenly stop...this faulted to the ht secondary ...replaced aok, i rode it 3/4 throttle up a long hill and then did a plug chop)nicebrown/tan colour(, the problem is lower down in carburation especially when warmed up, i believe the pilot maybe a tad weak, anyhow iset air screw to 2 out, and rode it around fine tuning on air and tickover then i…

Hi All, Anyone know anything about air valves on the top of my mono forks? They appear to be the same size as tyre valves. I assume they are meant for loading etc. A pal of mine says they may be majesty. Any ideas chaps?

  20. Started by fok,

I did a bit of trials in the 80's on 70's twinshocks as they were all I could afford at the time and I've not ridden trials since but have done plenty of green laning and the odd enduro. I realise that a very modern bike would probably be the best bet for ease of use but I have no desire to own one.......I just like aircooled traditional looking bikes so will stick with twinshock or aircooled mono class. Would I notice much of a difference between riding an aircooled mono and a 70's/80's twinshock if both bikes were well maintained and sorted? Will I make it easier on myself with a 90's mono bike or is the overall technology between the 80's & 90's bikes not that m…
