i'm very slowly getting my JCM SR 240 up and running again with a view to eventually selling it, to raise funds for another project for information- i used to ride it in the early 90's and it hasnt been started since then, before my dad died he started rebuilding it , the frame was powder coated, the fibre glass tank seat cover has been repainted, new JCM piston found and installed and new stickers made, unfortunately he became ill and never finished it. its by no means immaculate but doesnt look to shabby!! its now running (thanks to a friend) and i'm going to try it out this week......very excited!!!! does anyone have any idea how much oil should be in the forks, my…

I'm interested in purchasing an aftermarket repackable silencer for my TY mono (DEP, WES or those sold on FEKED). I am located in California so, as such, I'm required to run a spark arrester at any OHV park. I've been going round and round on this, trying to find a solution. I'd love to find a cone screen that will fit any of these and avoid the DIY mess I may make of a new silencer. I was also thinking of sourcing a Cobra Sparky that will fit on the back end of one of these silencers (although a bit clunky looking). I'm concerned that it may not clear the rear fender as well. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of one of these oval silencers at the back (top to bottom, s…

Hi , just finished the Ilkley Classic trial, which has 85 miles of road work , on my 1990 gas gas 325 air cooled mono . When I was on the road and inbetween sections and stood up the riding position is very uncomfortable because I have to put too much weight on my arms and the only way to take weight off is to ride with bent knees but I find this impossble to maintain for any distance , anybody got any cures? Nick

Thought I'd get in 1st and title the topic before some one else says it!!! This section has been quiet for ages now so I thought I'd post a couple of pics of a project I should have done by now. I've been collecting loads of parts over the past year or so, I just need to get the rest of it mocked up and fabricated then strip back down and refurbish it all. I was lucky to get one of the last 2 new mudguards in existence, I'm not going to use it though, it's too rare so I'm getting replica's made as I know I'll end up breaking it. Spot the parts that shouldn't be on the bike.

Both front and rear wheels on this Mecatecno im working on have spacers inside the mag hub which hold the bearings apart when the wheel in tightened up. You know the sort , its quite common. The spacers slot inside of the bearings and stay in place that way , other wise they would rattle around inside the hub. The wheel spindle is 17mm thick. The spacers that slot into the bearings increase the internal bore diameter to 21-22mm. I need bearings with this internal bore i cant seem to find them anywhere are quite a bit of searching. My only other option is not to slot the spacers into the bearings.........but how do i keep them in place????. Any ideas Here's hoping ther…

Hi all, I have just purchased a TY250. When it arrived the numbers indicate its actually a 1986 TY350 frame and engine bottom end with a 250 barrel and head. What are the differences in the bottom end of the 250 and 350 engines? Do they use the same flywheel weight and gear ratios? For example I thought the 350 had a heavier flywheel? Regards, Peter.

Wrighty called me this evening and mentioned that he is short of a Garelli and a Moto Gori trials bike for his show next year. There are a number of themes to the 2010 show and Italian Twin shocks is one, he would be very interested in speaking to anyone who has a nice example that they might like to display. Pete

Decided to do an air cooled mono, after spotting a frame, tank and seat for an Armstrong at this years Telford Show. With only 80 ever made, it hasn't been the most straight forward renovation, but its getting close to completion. Everything mechanical has been done and its all running and riding.....however 2 parts have eluded the search. Its missing the airbox and sump shield. I have resigned myself to the fact that both will need to be made from scratch, unless anyone out there has anything they want to sell ? If there was anyone with a complete Armstrong/Can Am mono that would be kind enough to take their bash plate off and draw round it for a pattern, I …

Bought this last week. Suspension linkages at the rear are very loose, no bearing in the top of the steering head & the front wheel is badly buckled, oh and the engine doesn't run either.

I think this bike looks awesome . Mecatecno were such a small company but somehow out of enthusiasm rather than business sense they made their own engine entirely. The piston was shared from a Bultaco 325 and the cases are all magnesium making them very light and fragile. Unfortunately the economic crisis is Spain in the lates 80's early 90's proved too much for them. RIP
