hi what is the difference between the ty250 mono and the pinky version and which one would be the best to have cheers....

I'm interested in purchasing an aftermarket repackable silencer for my TY mono (DEP, WES or those sold on FEKED). I am located in California so, as such, I'm required to run a spark arrester at any OHV park. I've been going round and round on this, trying to find a solution. I'd love to find a cone screen that will fit any of these and avoid the DIY mess I may make of a new silencer. I was also thinking of sourcing a Cobra Sparky that will fit on the back end of one of these silencers (although a bit clunky looking). I'm concerned that it may not clear the rear fender as well. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has any answers for stopping the pinging or minimising it on my TY250. The motor is fresh and unmodified but it pings it head off. I beleive the original pistons had dishes in the crown ( I could be wrong) but my piston is flat. I'm using 95 octane fuel mixed at 50:1. I have tried raising the needle which improved it a little but its still doing it. I know some peoples answer will be to run it on Avgas but this is really not an option I want to do, as it is road registered and I fill it up at the servo sometimes. Hi all, Could members advise the best gearing option for a TY250 mono (standard motor ) run solely for trials use?

Besides the obvious disc brake, graphics and I think rear spokes is there much differenc between the TY mono with red frame and plastic tank and a Pinky. Not fussed on the TY with a steel tank. Thanks in advance

A quick question? Does anyone know if a specialist tool is available to hold the inner fork mechanism when loosening the retaining bolt at the bottom of the fork leg? I read in an earlier posting that people have mede them with a Hex bolt welded to a piece of steel bar? Does anyone know the correct bolt head size to use? thanks Rob

Hummm I just picked up a ty mono 350 1986 that need tlc ( and love ) but I'm not sure I made the right decision to go for that 350, it seem's that a 250 would have been the way to go. Any advise, I'm very confuse. Guy

Hi have nearly finished my TY mono rebuild . I've found a few problems on the way & would like to discuss them. My bike has a YZ 250 front brake plate fitted & iv'e had to machine a extended torque lug for the fork leg/ brake plate,anyone else had to do this? I also found that the carb had had a few DIY mods on it that didn't work very well.Corrected this by adjusting the float height to 23mm with the float tang just seating in the float valve slot, next fitted 42 pilot jet, highly vented air box lid, 145 main jet & needle back in the std position , air screw 1, 1/2 turns out. Bike now starts easily & runs like a top. Plastic petrol tanks don't fit very we…

I bought a 44 H TY mono a few weeks back, fixed the igniton and put it in the shed while I finish a TS project, this weeckend I made a few round behind the house to find it very VERY " SLUGGISH " so I took the carb off cleaned it put it back with no improvements. I'm sure the exhaust need's a good cleane up but still I think the carb need's fixing. I have " on the shelve " a new roung slide 26 mm Mikuni ( VM type ), is it a good idea to try it on ? Or am I loosing my time, I know I have to modify the flywheel. but I have to start somewhere. Guy

Hi all, I have recently had a TY Mono fully rebuilt (engine) but whilst it runs "ok", comparing it to a friends on Sunday who has recently bought one the engine goes appear more flat. Now that I know the engine itself is 100%, I want to explore the front exhaust (the rear has been replaced with a new box) and also the carb, so questions: 1) I have a brand new Mikuni VM26. Has anyone tried one of these and do they have a starting point for jetting (slide, needle etc) 2) Are replacement front exhausts available or is it a "cut it open and weld it up" affair? thanks, any advice appreciated....

my mono keeps dying, seems like fuel starvation, after a bit of bouncing(not that i do that sort of riding) but it creates the problem it just dies, kick it over and off it goes again, just replaced float valve which everything pointed to, but still have problem any ideas gratefully accepted

Just got an 86 ty250r and had the top end off for a look. It's not bad but has some scratches. It's got a piston with 50 stamped on the crown. Also has a shaped crown rather than even curves. Only have ordinary vernier calipers so only measred the bore at the very top. Seems to be 68mm there. Can anyone tell from any of this whether it's already been rebored. Does the 50 mean 0.5 oversize? Also any one know if Birketts will still do the 270 kit & shorten the inlet tract? Last posts i've seen were about 4 or 5 years ago. Cheers.

Does anyone do lowering brackets for the TY mono foot pegs? I know Sammy Miller does them for the twinshock. I'm keen to avoid cutting and welding if I can. If I can't avoid cut and weld does anyone have any drawings to help fabrication?

Hello there, I cut a small piece out of the back of the box for a look-see and it is a real mess of packed solid gunge and carbon. I've seen the very helpful pics from Searay175 on 03/11/16 (attached) but can't quite figure out the best place to cut the rear end of the box. There doesn't seem to be a lot of space to cut between the outlet and the mounting bracket like he did and it looks like that would be a real pain to weld up again. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Hello new to ty's just got a 86 ty 250 mono with a couple of problems but one i can not work out when you rev the engine revs pick up slowly and throtling off revs die down gradually over 2 or 3 seconds .Have checked reeds and there is no gap, and carb slide is working opening and closing fine the cables not trapped any ideas ? thanks Adrian

I finaly found a TY Mono 250, I had a 350 a couple of years ago but could'nt pull myself to fix it ( a 350 was not what I wanted ) so I sold it for the price I had paid to someone who was locking for one. My new aquisition need some tlc but is in a fair shape, I don't want to make it a SSDT winner but a good reliable trial machine. In the serial number there is 44H so I assume it's the model, Since it's running I was able to test ride it at home and first thing that came to mind was " Am I on the second floor? I have just picked up a TY Mono which is going to be paired with a chair (new challenge for next year!) I am sorting a few bits out and noticed that the rear brake pedal flop's around due to excessive wear either on the shaft or the housing in the frame. The current pedal looks like it has been built up with braise. I can get a bush made up but first I want to source a replacement pedal. I can't find any UK suppliers stocking any on the net? Or do people buy other ones and modd them (if so what one??)
