Classic Trials

By request as it covers too many of the other forums

My brother and I rode a Somerton Classic trial today at Weatherhayes Farm. I always make a point of acknowledging those that organise, set up, observe, clear up and prepare the results. The trial today has to go down as one of the best, really good challenging sections, different lines to be picked if you used your imagination, well supported by observers, virtually zero queuing, excellent weather (not sure how they arranged that), plenty of fun, banter and laughs. 3 routes, 1 to suit all abilities, WELL DONE SOMERTON CLUB, thankyou to all involved for such a great days fun.

I have been riding and restoring trials bike for the past 25 years. The riding has never been very serious...some sand...some drop-offs...some small ledges to climb up...some rocks, etc...Not climbing up freezing streams or anything like that...all older and smaller bikes...TLR 200, TY 175...etc... nothing modern. For the past three years I have been out of commission. I've had some medical issues including a prostate surgery and I'm in the middle of some procedures on my eyes. The day before yesterday I went out for a couple of shortish rides...in very warm weather I might say. I came home exhausted after probably 45 minutes of riding. Two days later I am still sore…

Hi This is my first time starting a topic but I've had problems finding bits and pieces for my montesa 349. I was told that the front light is like rocking horse doings to find but after a bit of trawling I've come up with a chap in spain who had a brand new new with also a multitude of other equipment for spanish twin shock trials bikes. He can be found at http://stores.ebay.es/The-Classic-Spanish-Bikes . He goes under the name of frankiemountain. He is very helpful and if you don't see the item your looking for contact him and ask. He'll bend over backwards to help. Well hope this is some good to you all and happy restorations to you.

Hi there,I'm having trouble getting my KT 250 to run properly. It sounds when revved like it's gassed up and dosn't rev cleanly. I have had the crank seals replaced, had the carb overhauled by Motocarb Liverpool, had the timing checked, changed the spark plug, renewed the air filter (runs no different with filter in/out and checked the exhaust for blockage. There is plenty of compression but going to do a proper check tomorrow, and it starts up fine.I am running on pre mix at 50:1 using castrol 747 2 stroke oil I don't know what to look at next.Any tips, pointers ,ideas etc would be greatly appreciated as I'm dying to get out on her after buying and bringing her over from USA.…

Hi I'm in the process of finishing off building A C15 trials bike with later side points engine. Nearly finished need to get a new Carb as I haven't got one knocking around.Money is tight and not over keen on Amal concentric Carb and was wondering what modern Carbs people had tried and what experiences people had? Looking to run a 24mm Carb on an extended in let manifold. There seems to be a lot of pattern/copy Carbs on ebay very Cheap wonder if they are the usual China's quality or are they any good? Any thoughts appreciated.

What are the security arrangements (if any) for competitors machines in Kinlochleven? Is there somewhere they can be left overnight securely or is it just down to the individual to sort out at their accommodation? Not having a van I would have to use a trailer and that doesn't leave much in the way of security - for the bike or trailer for that matter! Thanks

Hi, I just joined up. I have restored two Suzuki TC120'S. A 69 one and a 71 one. I was quite fasinated to read the information about the Peter Gaunt ones and others. Having played about in the rough and in woods on the normal TC I was well impressed, I would love to play about on a trials version. Even sat down on the little TC it pulls well in low ratio and climbs well. I would like to build one and have a chat and pick the brains of someone who has one or knows about them. I have kind of read all I can find on the net. Specifically, do you need the T200 triple tree as well as the forks?, or is it the b120 tree. Also I believe there are alternatives. I tried…

Does anyone know if the Villiers 33a 250cc cylinder head works okay for trials?. The plug thread is longer than the 32a from what I can tell and the squish band gives higher compression.

While the front fork action on the Fantic is fine, I want to make some changes as they bottom harshly a few times each trial. The top caps have a spring loaded ball in them that releases any air so the forks don

Hi: Just thank the IDMCC for the fantastic 2011 edition of the Highland Classic. Special thanks to the Moffat family and Paul Edwards for their generosity with me. Also to all the Scottish friends for being so wellcoming. Even the weather was good to me and enjoyed another Spanish weather weekend in Scotland. Will be back next year for the 2012 edition.

Am I missing something or am I correct in thinking its Sunday morning and still there are no results posted on any website for what is described as the premier Pre 65 event in the world. Over the last 12 months organisers have been promising to improve communications etc etc, well how about putting some results up guys n gals, there are a lot of people who were following the trial from long distance and overseas. You manage to get the daily results up and rolling for the SSDT before the end of that days competion so why is it so different to the Pre 65 event. Yes, you are correct, I didn't get a ride this year or last year !!

A couple of years ago I bought an old Fantic 200. It had been stored in a sheed for 10 years or more. Now the time has finally come for us to start on the Fantic 200 project – so it will be ready to next years Classic seson. When we picked up the bike, it was fitted with Marzocchi dampers (see picture). I do not know the model, and can not find any information regarding it - Trial related that is. Since it is not original damper, I assume that it is a (better) damper than stock. Now the question is just whether to renovate them, or buy a new set. The only thing that comes close to the model are Marzocchi Strada - but never saw them used for Trial. Is there anyone ou…
