Classic Trials

By request as it covers too many of the other forums

  1. I thought that maybe some of you would like to have a look to some of the new preparations seen on the first round of the Spanish Classic Championship last 2 March in Mallorca Island. The trial was fantastic and some of the preparations where spectacular.

  2. Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to trials in general. I am looking at getting into the sport. However, there is one big problem: I live in China. A country which is definitely not known for its Trials motorcycles. Importing japanese bikes is out of the question and classic trials can't be found anywhere. The option I've been looking at is to buy a vintage scrambler motorcycle that are common here. Usually custom made. One example: Most of the bikes include a choice of either 125/150/200/ 250cc engine, with a vast selection of gearing options available. Trials tyres are available for all rim sizes and the bikes can be modified in many different …

Hi folks, am looking to build a project bantam trials from an old D7 I have, but I am a beginner and dont really know where to start. Can anyone help with the following. Forks: What can I do to the originals to make them viable. Dont really want to get too far from original. Wheels: I am pretty sure I want to run a 21" at the front, will I have to get one built. Exhaust: are there any out there to buy, will another make fit or is it a build it job. Engine: any tricks on the engine. Hope someone can help or point me in the direction of someone who can. By the way, some great bikes shown on the site, if you've got photos to give me something to aim at that would be g…

Hi guys, Not sure if you will be able to help but I have an disassembled Bantam D5 frame which is partway through a trials conversion. I would like to change the headstock angle but can't any information on how much to change it. I am unsure of the original angle from when the bike is built up with original forks and rear shocks - I would like to increase both the front and rear by the same height, so if I could find the original angle of the forks when resting, I could tweak this by x amount until I have the angle I require, which will remain constant despite the height. Has anybody else done this modification and knows how much to change it by, or does anyone have …

I've had converted Norman B4 for many years, originally a roadster with 2T engine, so I fitted an 8E and set about mod-ing it for Vintage trials in UK. Now in France and hoping to get it sorted again , so can anyone offer advice please. The gearbox is off a 125 12D I think with 17t sprocket and primary is also 12D I recall. The barrel for some reason I had .040" milled off the top to raise compression, perhaps not a wise choice. porting is standard and I'd like to choose a Mikuni I think inplace of the original S24 and S25's carb's I've been using ,question is which one? I'm about to give it a rebore as it's worn, are there any other choices than the Villiers in use? …

  8. Hello, I am a 59 year old that has ridden motorcycles for years. I had a 1986 Honda TLR200 Reflex and a 1997 Gas Gas Contact 200. I would like to get into riding very easy trials type riding in the woods around my house, not competing. Used trials bikes in my area of Northern Indiana are hard to find and I would like to start tinkering around in the woods asap as this COVID-19 stay at home order is driving me nuts. There are two within 90 minutes of my home. One is a 1975 Yamaha TY175 ($1,400) and the other is a 1974 Suzuki RL250 ($1,000). Both seem to be in the same shape. My question is which one do you think would be the better bike for me?…

  11. Quite frankly I find me old TL-250 to be one the most fun Trials bikes I have ever ridden. I think back that I had more fun in No Stop Twinshock than the modern stuff. Cheaper too! Don't forget to state your reasons why!

  12. Do any of you boffins know what is the best exhaust system for a 32A Villiers trials engine and where to get one? Is a true silencer better than an expansion box? What sort of packing is best? Does length matter!!!?? Thanks in anticipation.

I have a 230cc Tiger Cub motor with a Dellorto carb, Armac exhaust and PVL style (UPB) ignition. The slow running and mid range power is okay but on long climbs where it requires high revs it misfires very badly and often does not make it up the hill. I have spent the best part of a year trying to get the motor to run correctly but I am getting nowhere and going around in circles. I have asked many fellow Cub owners for help but it mystifies us all. I have checked and double checked the ignition timing which is spot on. I have tried all sorts of spark plugs, main jets, needles and pilot jets but still the problem persists. Currently I have a 35 pilot, 105 main jet and a D…

I have a few issues with my bike...any help with any of them welcome. What engine oil to use ? I'm guessing anything 20/50w ? GTX although I see GTX is now 10/40w When I went to drain the primary chaincase it had nothing in it....I have had to remove the casing (see next question) and it has electronic ignition...Is this the reason it has no oil...can the chain and clutch be used like this ? Having watched the newly replaced gearbox oil trickle out of the final drive sprocket bearing it seems this is knackered along with the seal. I've managed to reach the bearing via the clutch side, but how do you pull the bearing out....Or do I have to remove the gearbox and push…

So, it seems that the big bike classic scene is dying. Question, what's the best twinshock to convert to a right foot gear change and left foot rear brake?
