SWM

Right folks I have been considering a twin shock for some time and I'm thinking of getting one for the summer months to see if I enjoy it more than the Gas Gas I currently have. A combination of getting Bernies book off santa many years ago and SWMs being in short supply when my dad was a dealer for them meant that although I always wanted one I never actually owned an SWM. So if I go the twinshock route the SWM seems a likely candidate I have been offered a frame yokes and a seat /tank unit from a 280 but whats the chances of locating a motor ? will early air cooled aprillia rotax motor fit or the armstrong rotax ? I assume the Gori one will ??

Have a look at the swm at 13.11, not an engine I recognise, chains on the opposite side as is kickstart. Any ideas ? (Ducman at 23.10 -Greeves at 27.52- Ecki at 28.19)

I need help...where can I buy a rod kit? Also need info on piston size the 61.70 in this engine .... not sure if this is standard ?

Hello all, Just picked up a Nice Swm 320TL .Rode it in a trial today and was well impressed.After owning Honda tlr,s Fantic,s Majesty,s The Swm is a very under rated bike, it steers well goes well and looks good and boy it grips!!!!! The only gripe i have is the forks top out ,is there a fix for this ?? Heavy clutch,but after talking to Martin At Swm moto careful adjustment and a domino lever its not that bad .Roll on the next trial !! Scorpa250

Nice old Jumbo that came online here yesterday. Just thought I would share the pics and humorous wording...! Obviously not a trials rider, garage looks like it needs a tidy. Bike has nothing to do with me..! "Humorous Description" "It will start and purr great very fast! Nothing wrong besides that it sat a while so there is a stuck clutch so when you come check it out you can only start it in neutral, you can put it in gear but clutch plates are stuck so there is no slowing down until you cut off the power ha ha ha meant for trials it is lightweight and super powerful..!" I would like to upgrade my footpegs on my 1980 320. Yes I could buy a weld on set, but the frame is all nicely painted and if I could just fiddle the pegs, and not the bike frame I would be happy. None of my vintage Ossas or my old Husky help . My KDX 220 is not much help either. My 02 Beta is close but the peg ears are just a mm to wide to fit between the peg ears on the SWM frame and the pin hole is quite a bit further out. Interestingly the pegs on my DR 650 are very close. Fit nicely between the ears on the SWM frame and would just need a bit of grinding to sit in close to the frame and have the pin holes welded up or perhaps just a sleve welded in to sleve them down …

does anyone have a clear photo of the rear monoshock setup ? i`ve got a few fuzzy ones that are hard to make out. can`t find a factory made one so i`m building my own...johnnyb

After all the help you lot have provided, I thought you all deserve to see some photos of an SWM on its maiden voyage on the Slickrock trail near Moab, in the desert of southeastern Utah. I spent a long weekend there, riding the TL320 on Slickrock and Hell's Revenge trails. Slickrock is a single-track trail (bicycles and motocycles only) about 12 miles long, about ninety percent solid sandstone, and ten percent loose sand. It is a very fun place to play, and to practice riding obstacles. Would anyone be able to identify a Bombardier engine by it's serial number? I'm trying to identify a Bombardier engine that I was told came from a CanAm motorcycle. Its serial number is 75242. I've struck out in my web search. I wasn't sure where to post this query, but decided this forum might be the best because of the SWM/Bombardier connection. Thanks!

Hi all. In the process of "trying" to remove the barrel for a re-bore. The four long studs that go right through to the crank case are solid. Haven't been touched for decades. I have been regularly spraying them with wd40 & duck oil but so far no movement. A friend has suggested a hot air gun, which I haven't bought yet, is this the best way ? Any other suggestions ? Hi all ! Anyone got any experience about having Magnesium casings professionly welded (with MG welding Rod) ? I intend sending three clutch casings to be welded they say its no problem but can only be done from experts that have the right material and knowledge.

Hi Guys, I noticed that the shocks are not parallel - the top being narrower. Based on the theory that this will put some side load on the shock pistons I was thinking NJBs might be the go? Any thoughts? Has anybody retrofitted any brand with heim style bearings aka last model of Husky twin shocks? Also can anybody recommend a supplier of betor springs - 98kgs c-d grade ability ? This site has springs, seals and dust covers as a deal - Betor kit. Any advice welcomed.

The points on my TL320 look a little corroded, so I'd like to replace them. Anyone know of a source in the US for these parts? Common with a snowmobile, or ultralight maybe? I also need the flywheel puller. Will the "MOTION PRO FLYWHEEL PULLER SKI DOO ROTAX CDI IGNITION, 62-2037", fit? Looks like it has lots of options on the hole spacings, but I can't find the dimensions listed. It's pretty pricey, so I would hate to buy it, just to find out it doesn't fit. Any other sources for a puller? Stupid question: is the flywheel nut a "normal" thread, or reverse thread? I'm planning a trip next weekend to Moab, Utah, an area with lots of choices of trails, some of them very rough, technical trails with lots of obstacles to challenge a trials bike. I'm trying to determine which trails I can practically expect to ride without running out of fuel, but the TL320 is new to me, and I don't yet know how far I can go on a tank of fuel. How far does YOUR TL320 go on a tankful?

I have a really bad misfire on my 1980 TL320 and am looking for advice. My bike starts 1st or 2nd kick and ticks over great and runs at slow speed fine but as soon as I open the throttle it starts to backfire, I have changed points, condenser, coil, plug lead and plug to try and cure this fault. I have also cleaned out the carb and fitted an in-line fuel filter. There is a chance that when I reassembled the engine that I may have put the disc valve in slightly the wrong position but have yet to check this, I wonder if this would make much of a difference to the performance, as, if it is in the wrong place it will only be out by one or two splines.
