Trials Training And Technique

Riding Hints, Tips and Tricks

  1. Started by mcman56,

I'm not sure if it is from trials but my mid back muscles tend to be tight and sore. It is the area of arching when standing on the bike. These are the muscles just below the shoulder blades. Are there any exercises or stretches that can loosen up this area? The yoga "plow" helps some but not much seems to reach this area.

  2. Started by mcman56,

I see that some riders can get a very quick almost explosive jump up from the pegs when unloading. When I attempt, it feels kind of slow and mostly like I'm compressing the rear suspension rather than pushing my body up quickly. Does this imply that my timing is off...maybe too early? I get some lift but not as much as I would like. I'm 155 lbs if that makes a difference.

  3. Just picked up a brand new Beta EVO 300 Factory with kick starter on left side of motor. This is a new one for me. Being 65 years old my kick starting oomf aint quite what it once was. Tried to start it today, no luck. I am looking for some tips. Is it better to stand over it and use right leg or stand off it and use right leg? Thank you

  4. stitched this latest training vid together but can't help feeling i'm probably missing some crucial points. i'm only clubman so basically have never done any spotting, only filming the upper grades doing it. i've made a typo in the vid so will be redoing it shortly... if any experienced riders can suggest tips i've missed please let me know and i'll incorporate them into the revised one. thanks in advance!

So has anyone watched this? If so does it actually have some useful techniques in it or is it just a load of clips of Bou? The trailer has a lot of clips that are already on YouTube so not sure how useful it will be. I did have the Ryon Young DVD which was quite handy but lost it a few years ago. Failing that what about this: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111554949542 Or this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111569479933 .

I posted a message to the thread about the trials practice area at Tonymoto, but the whole thread seems to have disappeared today. Is this more database problems, or should I be looking for black helicopters? Does anyone know what the latest situation is with Tonymoto? Yoyo - your PM box is full . . .

Hi I've been it to bike trials (push bike) for quite a while but am only just starting to move on to motorbike trials (hope thats the right terminology). Im having great fun so far but would like to be able to track stand... on a push bike it is a simple case of turning the bars almost 90 degrees and just moving body weight but this does not seam to work on the trial bike... help please also are there any events or clubs in the hampshire area (UK) that i would be able to spectate at..... Thanks all Matt

I have a Sherco 125. In one particular section today, just a slight initial slope, soaking wet, in thick, slippery clay/mud, I could not get any traction at all - to even get near the tricky bits. I have Michelin x11 on the front and an X lite on the rear. Front was 6 pounds and the rear was 3 pounds. I am around 15 stone. What pressures might help?

Ryan Hughes is a student at the same institute I study at, I know he's Supercross but theirs a crossover to trials so I thought some of you who're interested in training may be interested in this article about Ryan and my mentor Paul. Dirt Rider article about Ryan Hughes training facility Paints a pretty good picture of how we should all be training not just elite athletes.

Hi guys I think most of you have read a bit of my story, and I appreciate all the help given. I have less than 2 weeks untill my next comp....South African nationals round 3 &4. A 2 day trials in unfamiliar terain. It will be my second comp riding intermediate so im still unsure what to expect but im doing my best to be ready. I would desperately like a top 5 position although I doubt it (will be p!ssed with myself if I dont get top 10). Yes I put pressure on myself but thats what drives me In my less than 2 weeks build up......how should I train? (I know what to work on but what sort of schedule). I have a dodgy shoulder and dont want to flare it up (hopping). Iv…

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a training center? I am new to trials and can find nowhere to practice so I have to enter trials to learn. After my first one I learnt so much and was confident and looking forward to the next. However when I got there the weather was rubbish and the sections were huge. I crashed on the first section I tried and then retired from the trial knowing I did not have the skills required for the conditions or difficulty of the sections. Even people I saw clear every section on my first trial where falling off!!! So I need to find some training so that I can restore my confidence and learn what to do properly. I live in Cambridgeshire but…

Hi all I attended a Graham Jarvis training day on sat at Tong Yorkshire. Both the venue and the training were Great. Graham is real nice guy, very good at giving good clear instruction to both begineers like me and the more experianced riders. I would highly recommend to all. I asked if he would run a day at whitworth, Back cowm Quarry. He agreed in principle as long as the demand was there. I need 10 people to attend @

Been watching a few videos on facebook, you tube etc of the current batch of WTC contenders. I cannot understand why they are still practising to balance, hop and bop, move sideways, backwards and never use flags. Looks good but a lot of 5s if it was a trial. Have the rules changed for 2016 - no flags and ride section anyway they want?

Got a bike (rev3), and a Van but am brand new to this. From 6 years of green laning and some enduro practice, I know one important thing: Really good instruction and tips from someone who knows what they are doing, especially early on, can soon save pain and damage to your equipment... In the long run this is always worth it. Everyone is different and guidance from someone who knows what they are doing can quickly help you figure out what your natural weaknesses are*, what to practice on your own and what to bear in mind most when doing something unnatural (to me, like going slowly up slopes and over logs) This is a thinking mans sport from what i have seen, and I am a…

Hi guys Thought i would start a new thread that will help novices (such as me) to practice the more important techniques of trials riding, hopefully with the help of the more experienced guys here. Basically i would like to make a list of the trials riding techniques that should be practiced and in what order they should be learnt/practiced in relation to importance and difficulty as well as relevance to say, clubman events. This could be horribly wrong and im sure ill miss some importants steps out, but here is my example: Balance Figure 8's Little weelies Riding over small obstacles (lower than bash plate) Cambured turns, up & down, tight. Riding over bigge…
