What would you recommend as a good shock absorber for a 199? I'm not a serious competitor so don't need the latest and greatest, just something reasonable with a reasonable price. The Betor Experts on it now were fine when they were in good condition but now they're barely functional. And what spring rate for an 80kg rider?

Ok guys I've taken the plunge and bought a early bultaco, as far as I know its a 71 (k reg) but it needs setting up correctly, it starts but its woolly! as in the revs are all over the place! It seems like air is entering somewhere. The inlet manifold rubber and the airfilter hose has got some splits in them? so these will need replacing for a start! An amal carb 627 type L428 is fitted and looks quite a new one! Is this the correct carb? whats the correct spark plug and ign timing? Also I've included some pics as the front brake is much bigger than standard it looks like a mk1 cota front wheel? what do you think? I've had a m80 front wheel in the garage for ages (lu…

Hi there, nice that i found this forum and i am not the only Bultaco addict round here...I just wanted to sell a 183 Sherpa i bought for a friend, who didn't want it anymore. When it was standing in my garage, i said to myself: he, thats a really nice bike...It was stored 25 years in a shed and had a real daily driver life before that...I put some air in the tires, brake cleaner in the carb, some fuel and the engine fired up. I could not believe when i made a few rounds with it on our place...and decided, thats my new project, the bike i always wanted to have since i was 18. crazy, and makes really no sense, cause i have three other Bultacos and a montesa trial... I …

The 'vesty replica' at Telford had a reed valve conversion. Has anyone any experience of the effects of this mod? I'd expect smoother running at low revs because of cleaner low down carburation...anyone ever tried it?

I've got one fitted to one but runs like poo so just wondering if anybody knew a starting point for jetting the carb as it feels week. Don't have any spare Mikuni jets so will have to order and they aint cheap so just wondering what is the starting point on jets slide etc. Thanks

I have a 1980 Sherpa 199a which I have just partially restored. i.e. frame, brakes, rebore, new carb, repaint etc etc. (Trying to relive my youth according to the wife- rode a DOT in the 60's and a slimline Bultaco 325 in the early 70's) Up until yesterday it was running sweetly. Then a misfire developed which gradually worsened with backfiring etc. Checked spark seemed fine but changed plug...... no improvement. Bike starts no bother but misfires as soon as I ride it. Checked wiring and cleaned earth connections...... No better. Waiting for a condenser from Dave R so haven't been able to try that yet. Decided to check timing and points. Points had closed down a l…

Who can rebuild these engines or at least the crank? In Motion only supply bits now. Is there only In Motion for parts? Anyone to recommend for a rebore? Will probably do bottom end myself unless can find someone to save time. Thanks.

After all the trouble starting and plug fouling it seems it is the main bearings so seals as well. Please see pic attached. Discernible movement when levered under the magneto so engine re-build it is. The pictures in my manual aren't good. They mention the 12, 6mm nuts securing the crankcase halves and not to loosen the illustrated one as it secures the friction pin though this does not apply to pre '76 models. I can't make out which one they mean. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also any advice on pitfalls to avoid gratefully accepted. Cheers Neil

I have a blue 199 Sherpa with frame number JB 19902239. It has tubes under the engine and no gusset on the swing arm. It has blue frame, tank and mudguards etc. Can someone confirm whether or not Bultaco released blue frame 199 Sherpas.
