am i right in thinking that the standard throttle on a 4rt is slow action throttle? if so has anyone tried a fast one, and did it feel any different?

Anyone here read japanese? I'm interested in the changes that have been made to the RTL bike. Being in the USA we can not get the ELF HTX 740 tranny fluid. What other brands are compatible? Same deal with the motor oil, can't get the Repsol 4T in the 10w-30 weight....any thoughts on what you chaps use that is compatible? Many thanks, loving the new ride. Tom

Just got a 2005 4RT and compared to either my 03 Scorpa SY250R or my 04 Beta Rev3 the fan seems to run a lot more of the time. Is this normal? Are there any problems with the water pump impeller wearing out? The air temperature while riding was about 60 F or 15 C Thanks DFW

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2016 300RR, which to be honest, looks pretty stylish in the flesh. Having always run 2T bikes previously (enduro and now trials), I'm curious to know how the 300RR stacks-up against the 2T competition. I notice that the 300RR's weight is ball-park at 72kg (when compared with my 315 at any rate), but wonder how the engine 'feels' in comparison and whether it'd be lacking in power against a similar capacity 2T. I am a big fan of the way 2T power is delivered, their general lack of bulk and low running/maintenance costs, but the 4T itch seems to need scratching and seeing as big H does 4T as well, if not better than anyone else, …

Hi Im new to these trial bikes bear with me for my lack of knowledge. Bought a bike yesterday started on the fourth kick at the shop, tried starting this morning and no go. I do reset the ecu and press the kill switch before trying to start. Many thanks in advance

2007 4rt has beeb sitting since september, i went to view to buy and it wouldnt start, was started by the owner the night before by bump starting it. It will not start off the kickstart. Took plug out and it is sparking with good spark, and the plug was wet. The bike has not been started since is was parked up in september and was working as it should when parked up............any ideas what could be wrong or what to try . Cheers

Hello new to the forum and looking some help I have acquired a lovely little 1970's montesa cota been told its a 123 or 172 I have engine number 19MO252 and matches on frame can anyone shed some light on year and model? Appreciate your help in advance

Hi, I’m going to try and get my Cota 348 road registered. Looks like it’s going to be a right pain, but I’m going to give it a go. I can’t find an engine number but the frame number is 17M7**7 according to a website I’ve looked at, the number should begin 51M http://www.lamaneta.org/numerochasis/montesa.html Any thoughts ? Hi all hope someone can help ,I have a 97 montesa cota 315r which I'am trying to rebuild the engine on I can get all the parts except a conrod kit.Apparently honda only supply a full crank at god knows how much!!! Has anyone rebuilt one themselves or know someone who can? I've heard the engine is similar/the same as a cr 250, is it ? ANY HELP WELCOME thanks in advance Kev

Hi all: I also have a question regarding possible piston slap that I hope someone here can help me with. I have a 98 Montesa 315r purchased late in 2010. The bike runs perfect and has plenty of power for me, however at tick-over there is a noticable slight rattle which of course dissapears when the revs increase. I have read elswhere in these forums that some people say this is normal and okay, and other say replace the piston etc. I have removed the front exhaust pipe and when i stick my finger on the piston through the port it feels like I can move (rotate)it slightly from side to side, almost like it has a little play on the bearing. I`ve just been told that my 07 repsol still has its exhaust restrictors fitted. Just wondered if its worth my while taking them out and what the benefits will be. The bike seems to go well enough as it is so I`m thinking if its not broke dont try and fix it. Also how many restrictors are there and where, the obvious one is bolted into the back of the silencer and there seems to be a loose pipe behind the exhaust seal at the front of the silencer. I hope sombody can help me as this probelm is driving me mad !! Have just bought a 2001 315R Cota. Ths bike starts and runs on choke and revs up and settles down fine. When I turn the choke off this seems to starve the bike of fuel (I think?). If I don't touch the throttle the bike runs for a about 15 seconds then the revs climb and it just dies. I reckon this is fuel starvation and the revs are rising as the mixture gets weaker. I have had the carb apart, blown carb cleaner through all the holes and jets that I can see, have taken all the jets out and cleaned them. I also thought it might be an air leak so took of the carb stub and reed valve block. Have visually looke…

Hi Guys. I noticed the other day that my front brake is binding on my 4 ride & been getting hot which is not good. I assume the Caliper pistons need a clean & are perhaps corroded. There’s plenty of life in the pads . Mileage is nearly 1400 Is this an easy job as I’ve not tackled this job before. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance , Andy

I'm sure this has been asked 100 times but I'm looking to find out the year of a montesa I'm looking to buy. Guy says it's 03 or 04 but it has a carbon tank and frame decals which I think are 1998/1999 , I have pictures of the bike and a frame number if anyone could help me out? Second question is once I've found out the year What's a fair price to pay for it? Thanks in advance.

Hello again, I was just wondering if anyone has bought one of the 2020 4rt.'s the base model, or repsol one its meant to have less engine braking. Has it? Anyone tried one? Anyone tried one who had an older 4rt,, 250 or 260? any noticeable difference? cheers

1st gear on the 4ride,standard 10/41 gearing,is the same as 2nd gear on the 4rt on 10/41 gearing. My question is if you ride a Montesa 4rt on 10/41 gearing what would you use 2nd gear for.

Hi, My 2008 Future 4rt 300 (Wiggys old bike) once warmed up starts to release an uninterrupted (even with revs) & continuous jet of steam from the top valve cover breather hose (a drip of water forms approx every 10 seconds from the condensate forming in the hose). First thought it was head gasket so replaced this, no luck, so I then swapped a complete top end from a standard 250 working bike (apart from leaving on the aftermarket S3 barrel & piston which all looked fine) & ran it twice for about 25 minutes (not ridden just on tick-over with a few revs of the throttle) & both times it boiled up within 3 minutes, fan kicks in as normal, engine sounds normal…

I have a 2015 4rt (standard) fitted with a twin map PTB. I'm toying with the idea of either buying a new 2017 4rt, or spending the £1500-£2000 it would cost to upgrade on mods for my 15. Keeping in mind that I already have a PTB. What mods would you want for your 4rt, if you had £2k to spend?? Flat tank? Ohlins rear shock? Termignoni exhaust? Mitani exhaust (front pipe or full system)? Shock link plates? Different anodised "bling"? The list is endless! But if you had the 2k what would you buy?
