Montesa

Now then all, new to the forum so apologies if this has already been covered. I am having a pretty specific issue with my rear brake (98 Cota). It bleeds up fine, pistons move ok, and push out no problem, and there's no fluid leak. However, when in use, the pistons push out no problem until the pads contact the disc (brand new disc+pads), and then when any more pressure is applied the system seems to 'jam'. Essentially, the pedal feel goes dead firm, and even when standing with all my weight on the pedal, I only get a small amount of pad movement which is enough to contact the disc, but not lock the wheel or give any major brake force. I can only think that some…

Hi I'm restoring a 1980 Cota 247C that came to me with the crankshaft broken at the counterweight keyway on the left hand side. Common enough problem. I managed to get a replacement LH half from Cyclesavant in the states. Before I get the assembly rebuilt with a new conrod kit I'd like to replace the ignition side half also, as the keyway and taper both have damage. So I'm looking for a decent ignition side half for a late model with the 20mm pin size. Part number is 2160.00803. Anybody got anything or know of a source either for a crank half or a crank assembly with a good usable ignition side? Any help much appreciated. Hoodie.

Or get some custom made, I tried danger uk but they don't have the template, thanks!

Hi all, I have a 2010 4rt repsol, I am looking to change the rear mudguard to the 2015 shape to get rid of the old rounded style plastic, also I have the old style higher tank, would i need to swap the tank for the 2015 slimmer tank to allow the mudguard to fit? Or does anyone know where I can get hold of a 2015 style rear face-lift mudguard that will fit to the old higher tank? Thanks all

  7. Hello, I am trying to rebuild a 348 and only have a parts list, no proper manual. Before taking it to bits, the gears changed but after a mechanic friend fitted bearings and seals and clutch and reassembled, at most 1 and 2. I took the left side case off and found the situation in pic 1 The punched dot is lined up with the dash, which should be right? The parts list has parts as shown in pic 2, which were and are completely missing, and they wouldn't fit because there is no square-section fitting in the middle of the gearwheel as shown in pic 2. Can anyone help please?

  8. Does anyone know of a source for 310 kickstart gears? There's the ratchet gear and then a carrier. A friend just had one fail and opened up his spare engine to pinch another, only to find they're damaged too ?

Hi guys. I’m looking to buy a 4 ride next year with a budget for a 2 or 3 year old one. What are your thoughts on them for reliability & rideability & general info . I’ve heard people say the gear shift is too far away but not sure if this is true. With thanks Andy Cheers guys

I dove into my winter maintenance today on my 05 4rt. I went to change the fork oil and noticed the spring leg was binding mid stroke. After I tore the fork down I found a small ridge from a dent in the lower slider. I know the proper course of action is to replace the slider. I’m not sure I can get the part. One online source says available in 2-3 days another says extended back order due to covid and no sort of timeframe. I’m in the US so it will likely me harder to find one. if I can’t get a replacement what are my options? I had the thought of using and exhaust pipe expander with hose clamps on the outside to support the leg to hopefully push the dent out en…

The price of a 2016 fuel pump unit is massive.... quoted £453! surely it’s a common item taken from a road bike. Would anyone happen to know or have the means to find out if it’s used on another motorcycle?

Hello friends, this turned up locally as a barn find. Ad says its all original, hasn't run since late 70s but turns over, original docs, manual, tool kit etc. He wants $1k for it (obo)... Is it worth investigating further? with a TY resto i attempted, parts were plentiful online and i wonder if this is the case for a euro 70s bike too or if it would be more of a headache than its worth. - isnt there a montesa with a wierd size front wheel that you cant get any more? is that this bike? How does it look to you Montesa experts? And..is the 123 as sound an investment as the 247 or 349- or does none of that matter? Any advice appreciated from a novice! with…

So, at the point now of trying to get some life out of the Motoplat ignition. Measured the coil - Primary 3 ohms, secondary 13.8 k ohms. No short to earth. Happy with that. The engine is grounded - Multiple points checked from engine to frame and fittings. Condenser is mounted under the tank. Body is grounded. Red wire to points is not grounded. So, in the ign area I have 2 wires to connect. Red (as already mentioned) is to the condenser. Yellow goes to a coil. The black wire on that same coil goes up to the ignition coil. I can attach the red wire and when the points are closed there is continuity, Closed Circuit, and when the points ar…

  19. Hello I have just bought a 247 C chassis/engine number 21M26447 for restoration. Its a late one I think and has the air forks which I understand were fitted from 21M25137? Any tech specs or literature specific to this model would be great as I want the restoration to be as accurate as possible. Thanks Dave

Hello everyone and thanks for the add. I recently acquired a Montesa 349 white wonder circa 1981. My first Montesa restoration.. I am quite alarmed at the lack of good workshop manuals in English and in depth. Just a few asks - what ratio of fuel to oil and should I use and which oil - synthetic/semi synthetic/mineral oil ?(for my other bike I use rock oil pp2) Also what other oils should I be using for other internals. Thank you.
