Montesa

There have been a few questions regarding piston replacement on the 4RT. For info my mate has just stripped his motor that was delivered in April 05 and trialled all seasons from then, we estimate approx trials 500 hrs. This piston measured 76.440mm which is 0.050mm above the specified service limit. Or about half worn. Air cleaner has always been kept cleaned and oiled but otherwise no special maintenance.

Hi all! Hey I was just looking at my 2004 Montesa and noiticed much to my horror, the @#$% engine is leaking oil! The leak is from the engine sump, which has been damaged by repeated whacks of the skid plate against rocks. I have two large A shaped rocks in my group of practice sections, and apparently there is a large impact to the skidplate involved to make them. Consequently my rubber damper gets squashed badly and then the clutch cover gets distorted and opens up a leak. I have this notion that some of you clever people out there may be able to solve this riddle. Why in this modern era where you can by all sorts of carbon fibre bits and dogbone suspension links an…

help please. have just had my 1st serious outing on my 4rt after changing from a rev 3 beta. overall the bike was excellent loads of grunt as expected and would climb anything i pointed it at. the only issue i seemed to have was that the front end was far more difficult to get on line when going downhill and was prone to loosing grip on the front wheel. this was never an issue with my rev 3 . is there any obvious front end adustments that should be made based on this info or is this typical of the handling of the 4rt? i am 6 feet tall and 12.5 stone in weight. other than this the bike was awsome.

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can help me with some basic maintenance info for this bike. I'd like to know, how much fork oil is recommended. How much transmission oil. AND, some friends here reckon you MUST use spark plug BR6ES?? That plug is hard to get here, do you reckon a BP6ES would be OK?? Thanks in advance for any help.

Heard a sherco rear brake is good, perce said you need a bashplate, anything else worth the effort?

Hi, my 2001 315 has developed a strange intermittant fault. After starting and running normally it will suddenly start running really rough, no power and won't rev. If I stop the engine and immediately re start, the fault has gone and it will run perfectly again. This sometimes happens after an hour or so of riding, but has happened almost straight after starting. It may not re-occur again for another hour, or it may happen after 15 minutes, but again if I cut the engine and re start the engine runs perfectly again. I have stripped the carb but found nothing amiss, I have taken off the mag cover but everything was ok in there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chippy.

Currently riding a Sherco 290 2012 the last of the stop machines.I ride at clubman level, down south, to be honest I find it can be bit of an handful i.e. gets away from me in the technical stuff , I have had a quick go on a 2016 4RT, it is heavier especially the front end although I found the power delivery very linear and precise which was great but I'm just wondering how big a learning curve it will be to change to a 4 stroke ?

I need to change the pads on the front of my 4rt an the 2 bolts holding the caliper in place will not come out ....seized, and the allen heads are now pretty stripped. I have read that this is a common problem and I am sure I have seen some replacement bolts made of titanium or something. Can anyone help??

  17. I have my left and right flywheels, not swimming, but there is a lot of oil on them as I turn the crank. If I wipe the oil off its on there again after one revolution. I have recently changed the crank seals, so this seems odd to me. Is this a sign that the crank seal is failing already or is it a possibility that somehow oil is getting through from the gearbox or somewhere else on the primary side? Thanks, Daniel. 1971 247 Cota

Here's proof there brand new bikes (not the rumored hundreds sat in a warehouse since 2009) in production, looking forward :0). http://www.trial-club.com/webzine-trial/actualites/infos-internationales/news/article/nouvelles-montesa-en-production/ This also shows the massive differences in prices for the new bikes in different countries, with Spain being the cheapest by a long way :0(

OK, so besides the usual "keep the revs up" is there any particular technique to minimizing stalling in sections? I am a relative noob to the 4RT and get more familiar with stall thresholds every time I ride but all input would be apprecitated and will help reduce my points! Cheers
