  2. As my previous threads have said I've bought an unused 2020 260 mont. It is brand new and unused. Oddly I noticed play in the top shock bearing. I tried to tighten up the bolt but it was tight enough. I took off the shock and it appears the bushes do not sit properly in the spherical bearing. I'm convinced either the factory has fitted the wrong bearing to the correct bushes or vice versa. After noticing that my chain tensioner block had been fitted upside down nothing would suprise me. Aren't dealers supposed to pdi bikes ? Im wondering if maybe the factory fitted showa bushes or bearings onto Olle bearings or bushes. They would have had both in the factory for…

Could anybody tell me what map 1 and map 2 are best suited for. I've ridden both modes on the same section and can't notice any difference. On my Beta 300 2t the map switching positions are very noticeable on how the bike performs. Also where have people repositioned this switch? I seem to constantly knock it into map 2. I think my lanyard is hitting it. I saw one mont where the map switch was neatly mounted on the radiator hose by the kickstart tip

Hi, A long frustrating evening in the workshop! I’ve just tried fitting dimpled steel clutch plates and although I worked pretty methodically through removal/ replacement with the manual the clutch lever now just doesn’t move at all and is locked out! having read some other comments on here I managed to remove bolts with rattle gun and not clutch holding tool. I checked the manual and realised it states to pull clutch lever in and keep it in as you remove the clutch cover (which I didn’t do). I bled clutch lever then removed cover again, and lever pulls normally. But when refitted it goes stiff again! Has anyone experienced this pr…

There's 'Cota' printed several place on my '16 260. What does that it stand for, is it an acronym, or someone's name? Yes, I've tried searching, and google translate, but granted I may have overlooked something quite apparent.

I have read a few posts here about the 123/172/200 Cotas jumping out of gear and other mentions of a flawed design. I haven't seen any information as to why? Both my 123 and 172 jump out of 1st or 2nd gears, the 123 occasionally and the 172 worse. If it is a design issue, what is it? I have rebuilt both engines with all new bearings with no apparent wear or damage to the gears etc. They have new springs in the selector and the pawls look fine. I have tried both less tension and more tension on the detent with no change. It does seem like it needs oil in the selector pawls to work, if the bike has been sitting it won't select anything till it starts up. It …

  7. I've noticed that my Montesa 4rt which is new to me has a slack chain. Bike is 2020 but brand-new as previous owner had it as an ornament. I noticed a slight clinking noise when oiling the chain on the paddock stand before my first ride on fri. But on closer inspection I'm wondering is my chain tensioner block upside down. The chain must be making the clinking noise when it catches the frame on the horizontal bottom tube under the swingarm pivot bolt. With the tensioner block in the opposite direction facing up it would raise the height of the chain and solve this issue. Am I right in thinking this is the wrong way round? Surely the factory hasn't fitted it upside down ? …

How does this thing pop out for cleaning? My Beta ones just popped out. These look pretty flimsy so I didn't want to force it. Do you bend it in the middle and pull from the middle and then squeeze the four little plastic tabs that are fitted through the mounting holes?

  9. Been fitting my swing arm protectors. I had to take the side stand off to fit my swing arm protectors. I thought this would have been a ten minute job. The drive side was just two bolts but the side stand side was a nightmare. Unless I was being totally stupid it appears you have to undo the side stand pivot bolt to create space to get a socket on the two m8 bolts that hold the stand to the swingarm. I don't have a spring puller so had to refit springs first then lever side stand back into position and get pivot bolt through. I spent a whole hour trying to line up this pivot bolt as I couldn't get it to thread into the threaded section of the side stand. It went straight …

Hi there. I'm going to fit a new bashplate to my montesa. I see CSP do one and Mitani do a few too. Does anybody have one of these fitted so I can see from underneath the bike what extra they actually protect. The bike is actually a brand new 2020 bike that some guy had as an ornament and I would like to protect the underside as best I can as my local practice area is all streams and rocks. My beta is scuffed to hell on the frame near the foot peg hangers. I would rather avoid the same happening on this lovely mont.

Hello. I've just bought a 2020 4rt 260. Was wondering how people route their front brake hose cable. Mine is clipped to the top of the fork slider and from then up it is not routed or clipped to anything. I'm worried the hose will snag on something i.e tree etc. It doesn't look like it simply passes through the headlight assembly like on my beta, or does it ? Does anybody have any photos how they have done theirs? There doesn't seem to be any space on the headlight to mount a hose guide. I'm sure it shouldn't be free floating as it currently is. Thanks.

I recently posted that a friend's 4RT had a spark and a plug wet with fuel but would not run. Following advice from various sources, I; Checked that the air filter was not over-oiled and that the fuel cap was breathing correctly. Drained the tank and removed the top banjo from the injector so I could soak out that fuel with a rag, replaced the fuel with fresh 99 octane and checked the fuel was running freely from the outlet. BTW, I met a guy once who had (evventually!) found that atheft-detection transponder had come unglued inside the tank and blocked the fuel line! Replced the plug with a brand new CR6EH-9 Reassembled and kicked it repeatedly wi…

Last on here a lot when building a 248. Now that has gone, I am looking at a MH200, year 1983. (According to the VMCC dating cert for the V5). So, one key question. It has a plastic tank under the cover. What is the current position with modern, ethanol fuel with the plastic. Do you need to use a 'special' additive in the fuel? Does the tank have to be lined? Is there an alloy fuel tank from another Montesa that fits as a replacement?

  14. 2007 standard 4RT 250 was running fine but first, suddenly would cut out when the throttle was touched and now won't start at all. Checked the air fllter, plug, fuel feed from tank (fresh 99 fuel); the plug is wet and it has a spark; doesn't make sense that it won't run. No changes made to idle speed, always used to start on a dead throttle and throttle is fully closed. Any thoughts please? I can't find anybody local with a diagnostic tool that won't charge me about as much as the bike is worth and reading the manual on diagnostics is gobbledegook to me, I barely understand one word in three... Bring back carbs and points! Any thoughts gratefully received, cheer…

Hello all. I came by a second hand 2006 4RT earlier this summer and have been giving it some needed TLC. The latest issue to pop up is slight weeping from the seal behind the countershaft sprocket. Has anyone replaced this seal and knows if it just slips on over the shaft once the sprocket is off, or if its a major wrenching project? Hoping I can just lay it on its side and complete the task externally. I have the service manual and nothing is mentioned about the CS seal. I found the replacement part and its on order, any insight into the procedure would be very helpful.

Hi, I got good deal on new 2022 montesa cota 260RR but wondering if trial 4t bikes can stall at sudden acceleration like enduro 4t do sometimes? My ktm 500 exc-f does that sometimes with quick opening throttle resulting often in crash. Never happened to me with 2t bikes.
