This might sound daft, but it should spin better forwards rather than backwards if it's an old chain tensioner as that's the way the rubbers will have been worn.

Have you put the wheel spacers in the right way round? Are the cam adjusters both the same (keep the wheel true) Pull the brake pads out and see if that cures it

Sod that, I jet wash the chain, ride it a few minutes to get the water off, spray some WD40 or chain wax on and that's it. I'd rather fit a new chain every 6 months than p*** about wiping it's a*** for a year

I wash mine so that I can inspect it for damage parts will wear out fast if coated in mud instead of grease/oil/lube Also, mud is heavy even when dry...

I've done 2 front mudguards in the last 6 weeks at

2002 Beta? If yes, the reservoir for the rear brake is above the rear shock - you'll see it as soon as you remove the rear mudguard. When bleeding brakes, always take the cap off the reservoir and keep checking the level of the fluid whilst you are bleeding them. So, 1 Cap off the rear brake reservoir 2 Check and top up with fluid 3 Pump the brake pedal up and down about 5-10 times 4 Keep the pedal pressed down hard 5 Release the bleed nipple half a turn on the rear caliper (air and fluid will spit out, the brake pedal will go down) 6 Tighten the nipple back up 7 Go back to number 2 above and repeat until all the air is out and just fluid is being spat out. Same deal for front brake and clutch...

On mine, I just had to undo the 2 bolts on the front pipe - once the pipe was removed I could access both bottom bushes whilst the radiator was still in place...
