  1. Appears to be a bit of anti European sentiment about today. I feel it would be appropriate to join in by riding only UK built machines this weekend. Please try to make an effort and remember Dunlop Trials Universals only.
  2. Let's no nit pick here the man's legacy to modern trials is unsurpassed. As someone who can barely fix a puncture I really have to marvel at his achivements. Our last great engineer on the trials front was probably Mick Andrews and that wasn't last week. What have we made over the last 20 years? Any advances on a set of snail cams and a front number board?
  3. I really don't know I have a man that knows these things so I'll ask him tomorrow and get back. He started talking about cranks and casings, bearing removal when I took it too him and I just glazed over. I do remember him mentionong some sort of special tool is required; At this point I made an excuse and left.
  4. Ye of little faith Nigel! Mine just went from butter smooth to rough as hell within 500 yards at the Scottish. Pretty sure a couple of 50p Chinese bearings have given up. Surprisingly I have a friend who can fix these things and don't expect the bill to be high even by the exacting standards of the tightest man in Fife.

    Running Rough

Yes the one with the paint blob though mine had seen previous fiddling at some point by others unknown. I wouldn't be totally cavalier about it maybe I was lucky but it runs like it's electric. Fingers crossed

    Running Rough

This may be rubbish but here's what happened to my 300. After last years 6 days I was riding a club trial and the last 2 sections it suddenly started running like a carb bike with the choke on. Changed the plug which was sooty made no difference so local dealer put it on the computer but when I tried it ran way rich. So I had a go at the sensor that you're really not supposed to touch that I'm not really sure what it does? Anyway, I loosened it slightly and moved it minutely while listening to the motor and how it took throttle. As soon as it sounded right I stopped. Has run perfect since plug looks the right colour and just got round another 6 days. Not exactly scientific. Be brave, mark the position and have a fiddle, what could possibly go wrong?i
  7. No but he gave it a bash. Anyway what about someone from the Netherlands knocking our wonderful trial. Imagine a six days there probably on a banking holding back the North Sea, by the Wednesday it would have worn through and we've have a massive shortage of Edam. And this Austrailian chappie too surprised if there's more than one trials rider in each time zone out there. You can't call yourself a trials rider unless you've ridden the Scottish.

    Is This True?

It would be a brave man that gave him a 5. Quality stuff. My best is British Touring car champ Gordon Shedden has a 4rt and has been at a few of out trials, thankfully he's not as handy on 2 wheels. Seen top comic Ross Noble at a Lothian event last year. Not in Bronsons league but both ride trials.

    Is This True?

Thanks folks wonder if any big names have trials bikes these days? Suppose back in the 70s Trials bikes were more appealing to the general public and we've lost that as bikes got more specialised.

    Is This True?

On the way to today's trial when I heard this on the radio. John Wayne,William Shatner and Neil Armstrong were all Montesa owners! I've been around a while but never heard anything like this. Certainly interesting if it is the case. Is it a giant leap for mankind or should Scotty just been me up?
  11. Must admit I do feel a bit self indulgent riding this year but really I only entered to go round with a mate who hasn't ridden before. Sadly he didn't get a ride. Personally I've no problem with riders taking 5s (I've even done it myself) My point would be and it's more of a general one is that riders who support the sport should be favoured.in the ballot Surely the fact I ride about 50 trials a year should be in my favour. And conversely once a year riders go to the bottom of the pile. Couldn't be fairer.

    Yes Or No ?

Personally I would rather ride a single speed, ridid aircooled bike than give up modern brakes. I'm probably a bigger luddite than you and still live in 1983 but i've no gripe with hydralic brakes as I see them working seemlessly every weekend at Trials. Now if you had said watercooling and all it entails you would get my vote. Anyway all you carb boys are living on borrowed time piddling fuel all over the place not really acceptable these day's.Better hope someone comes out with a bolt on FI kit before the whole show goes into room 101.

    Ballot?

I don't know what the Edinburgh club are playing at. I asked to be put with Dougie and I'm nowhere near him. Even worse they've put me with a crowd of haggis munching Irn Bru swilling teuchters. Half of them probably can't speak the Queens English/
  14. I've got one of these Yam engined Scorpa things lying about somewhere. It;s a hoot to ride but if you want to ride like a pro best avoided; No doubt the pure Yam version is a bit more refined.
  15. Thanks very much folks, the bearing should be here tomorrow , I'll let you know how it goes.
  16. Thanks, it's now in bits and both bearings are stuck on the shaft and appear to have been turning in the casings. Mmmnn!
  17. Hi folks, Sounds like the motor bearings have failed on the wee boy's Oset. Anyone out there replaced them as advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
  18. Some folk here seem to be quite good at figures. We net rounding it up £1 per rider at our club trials (£10 entry) only the membership fee gives us some breathing space. This doesn't include paying for markers, punches;cards' trophys, prsentation costs.toilets, snacks and probably a lot more I really don't want to think about.( luckily we have some generous members) Obviously a load of members time setting out and administrating.. If we had to pay a company to run a trial, how much would they have to charge to turn any sort of profit? Anyone want to do it for a tenner a head?
  19. Very kind reply dom,it's not really that bad here, only rained since October. Last week I ran a trial and had to cancel half way through as the riders were getting blown of there bikes. We're really spoiled. Anyway I'm now riding that trail from your shed to the Pyrenees in my mind. Cheers the noo.
  20. Hello from a wet East Scotland. Good on you for giving it a bash though 45 is no that old for starting out in these parts. You've plenty years left yet. Must say I'm fair jealous of you going out for a 2hr spin round here you couldn't do the washing in 2 hrs after a wee play . Viva Espana as they say in civilised parts.
  21. Quite shocked at these numbers and must be a worry for the heartland of trials bike manufacture. You would think in Spain Trials would be promoted as grassroots big time. Hats off to our ACU/SACU who virtually give away licences in comparison. And thats from a Scotsman.
  22. As above ,what though would a UK trials rider have to do to get his picture on a stamp? And what about some of those sections he was in? That poster of him going up that wall/step at the back of his garage on the last page. Awesome as they say these days.
  23. As Fifer the thought of heating my garage would bring me out in a sweat. It's just not the done thing round these here parts and anyone admitting to such an indugence would be told to "get a grip" . Some weeks my Scorpa just lies out the back all week under the lean too thingy which frankly is good enough for the old gird. I know this post is no help whatsoever but as it's rained since October I'm just glad the garage hasn;t floated off down the Forth.
  24. This is a real touchy one because as an organiser I wouldn't like to cost out my average club trial. Apart from spending the best part of a day setting out I have to drag the boss along on the day to do the paperwork. How many brownie points do you have to build up durng the week to get this and it doesn't end there as she does the results too. You would have to be crazy or very keen to do do this. As an aside we make pennies on our trials, The clubs only real income is membership fees.
  25. Nothing the National media likes better than a negative motorcycle story. Aye last night a minor topple at the Show involving a couple of members of the public makes the National news. There's more bumps in our house before the kids get off to school every morning. Franky the Circus should be praised for finding a couple of Glaswiegians sober enough to help out.
