Strange how a few months back Gas Gas didn't have enough cash to pay the window cleaner.
Now they've got the best part of a new bike on the go.
-
They do check the bikes at random times so it would be a bit risky but I suppose there will be the odd clone bike floating around.
I don't think the clubs heavy handed about this but I do know of riders that have tried swapping and got caught.
There's always gossip if Lampkin changes a plug by the end of the day it's a frame and by Saturday he's got an artic filled with Vertigos and a the Red Bull chopper on Rannoch Moor.
-
-
I don't know I've just tried to emulate him on my local high street and got my bike impounded.
Double standards I say.
I know I only managed 20 yards before I ran into that pushchair but no one could see the funny side of it.
I'm hoping Dougie will come to the Trial it's the least he could do after all it was his idea.
-
Mine was unrideable with the delorto, got an OKO flatslide from a mate not perfect but pretty good.
Don't ask about specs as I refuse to touch it incase I upset anything.
Sorry I'm not mutch help
I had one of these new and it never fuelled right.
-
As long as you don't go near any sections it will be fine.
Seriously stick to the main brands and spend a bit more money tyres really do make a big difference and just as much for a beginner as a pro.
Cheap tyres also make the suspension feel odd.
-
Thanks Jim, so me running the bike a bit richer to save them was in vain.
What a pudding I am.
I can't mind what transmission oil I've been using it's some fancy synthetic ATF, it always comes out like new when changed.
Should I be using something different?
Cheers.
-
Sorry to drift a bit, if I understand correctly the bearings are lubed by the transmission oil and not the pre mix?
I've an Ossa that has had issues and i'm praying that poor bearing quality has been the cause and is now fine.
Anyone put my mind at rest before next years Scottish.
-
Your mounts look different to mine. My 95 has steel brackets quite basic really would think any footrest would fit?
Just curious ,you ever had any powervalve issues? Mines running well now but doesn't like to pull on light throttle.
PS mines not got a stand either so thanks for the tip.
-
Hello there' mines got a Gas Gas fan fitted, had to trim the blades but works fine. Run it without the switch so it goes constant don't think this will be an issue where you are as it'll be on all the time pretty much.
Don't know about a rubber, mines a bit dodgy too have it taped up where the clip is just too be sure.
Out tomorrow again on it,maybe Sunday too if I'm allowed.
Bike went great last Sundays Trial could have won if I tried a bit harder.
It's getting that serious I'm thinking about a new tyre.
-
About time you came to one of our trials Brian.
I don't mind swapping you for the Scorpa if you want it tested?
-
Even the old sheet of paper "manual" supplied with Fantics was too much for me.
If someone gave me a proper manual I would need a lie down.
Probably a Scottish thing.
-
Well it ran as we say here real braw.
Just have to get the filter box connected properly now.
Might even be my weapon of choice through the Winter.
We may be in Scotland but this is the dry bit,no a bad 16 degrees today perfect for Trials.
Our wee clubs a bit like yours no pack drill, good humour rather than good riding is required.
I would like to show you the Section but I'm a hopless tecnophobe.
Will see if a mate can arrange it.
Keep the faith.
-
Hello there fellow Section owner mines been in room 101 for a while.
Though it's in good nick it's had a fuelling problem that made it unusable.
However' I'm now very happy as I think it's on the mend.
My local Fantic Guru has lent me a flatslide carb and it's passed the garden test.
Full try out tomorrow and i'm very optomistic.
Let you know how it goes,.
-
Right enough the later ones are fi but the standard carb is an easy fit.
The flywheel from earlier ones can be swapped with the later fi ones .
Have to blank of the hole where the starter motor goes.
I forgot all about this been a bit of a puddin .
Best go for a old pre fi one it'll be fine.
Don't know about the Chinese ones might be fine.
Get a shot on a wee Scorpa and see what they're like.
-
I'll give you one that will still be running when all the others are holding up some Chinese flyoer.
Yamaha YBR125 as was used in the 4 stroke Scorpas.
Vitually unbreakable, cheap as chips, loads on ebay
Nice and quiet runs on a teaspoonful of fuel.
Ok they're a bit tall and the gearings not perfect.
Had one ten years other than a couple of plugs and oil changes it's untouched and this bike gets well used.
Best bike I've owned and most fun.

Outside guess woodruff key sheared?
-
Honestly I don't know it can't be much because were Scottish, don't imagine the SACU are much either.
I look on them both as providers of insurance, assistance and guidance for the Trials community.
Riders do just turn up here join and ride but all trials are governed/ insured albeit in a different way by the two bodies.
Nothing to stop anyone setting up there own club here and running trials getting insurance could be interesting.
-
Over here we have 2 organisations (SACU AMCA). The SACU is the main Trials organiser and the AMCA runs local club events.
When we went with the AMCA back in 09 there was a few raised eyebrows but it was mainly due to licencsing issues at that time.
Now it's all pretty cool the better AMCA riders move away as they prefer the more structured SACU trials and we pick up the raw beginners who would struggle at "regular" trials.
We use each others ground and help each other out.
More trials than ever these days and more choice which can only be good.
Just out of curiosity roughly how many riders are there in Canada? I imagine plenty folk have bikes but the logistics of competing cause difficulty.
What I'm thinking is there's not enough of you to fall out if you see what I mean.
-
Hello there, not realy answering your question but may help.
My friend (Yes I have one) Duncan Wood at East Neuk Trials has worked on loads of these.
Helps Birkett at the SSDT too and knows a bit.
His home number is 01333 311 744 might be worth a call..
Fingers crossed.
-
Moving on I've always wondered at the wisdom of creating totally new bikes.
For arguments sake say all trials bikes had the same engine wouldn't cost savings be massive.
Easier for spares too.
Maybe even get a uk build if it caught on.
-
Hi there' had one back in the day and it ran fine with the delorto.
Maybe someone just wanted to try it with the Mikuni?
Wasn't many about even then best of luck with the restoration.
-
Well three cheers for Roy Hodgsons boys.
Totally respected the will of the people and got out of Europe at the first chance.
Couldn't be more patriotic.
-
Hi folks the laudies been riding (read crashing) around on a ty 80 borrowed from a good friend.
Anyway the front wheel often appears to be pointing in a different direction from where the handlebars would suppose it should be.
This being so I need a decent fork brace/mudguard stay or whatever?
Anyone out there know if these are available or will I have to cobble something together?
Many thanks in advance.
Allan

I do feel Ossa brought a genuine technological advancement to trials.
Thing is 90% of riders would be as well on a Bultaco and the rest on a TY mono.
I love my Ossa and really like it just because it's different..
Sad what's happened but it joins a long list of trials makers that went under.
Anyway i'm of to swap mine for a couple of empty crisp pokes (Scottish for bags) if I can find someone willing to trade.
Only kidding I think it's got another 6 days in it.
