  1. all sound advice above.. 250 should be your max to start with. get something mainstream look at plenty before you buy that bargain is NEVER a bargain. get one to ride not a dooer upper youll spend all your time and money in the shed and not riding..
  2. i dont believe that in 2014 the sammy miller book of trials riding would stand up in court as an authoritive guide as to what driving/riding standards are..
  3. ouch, give the guy a chance to reply.. almost midnight on a saturday night isnt probably the best time to want to strike up a conversation..
  4. if your tyres say.. off road use only.. they also have.. in usa and canada only.. printed on them.. so they should still pass muster in the uk. you are not required to have a speedo for an mot but you must have one if you ride on the public highway. on your green lanes the public highway legally is 20 metres either side of the centre of the established route. even on the green lane or 20m either side of the mid point you could be prosecuted for dangerous or reckless riding which might be interpretted to include standing up..
  5. villiers services will probably sell you an engine. otherwise well known internet auction sites are available.. this is a VERY expensive way of building a bike VERY expensive route..

    Must Do Beta?

the main consideration to the manufacturer will be price.. as the brake on a trials bike is unsophisticated due to its relative use, its not required to slow the bike down from high speed just to cope with speeds normally well below 30mph. you d probably find better brakes on a 1500 quid scooter or a 3 grand mountain bike
  7. well a shorter wheelbase will mean a tighter turning circle. however the placement of the lower shock mount and length of the shocks will impact the result. the longer swing arm should improve grip and the longer wheelbase should improve stability at speed. you pays your money ...
  8. sounds as if its jetted ok.. i'd retard the ignition a tad and see if that gives what you are looking for.. ( mark the original spot before starting so you can put it back if you dont get what she wants..)
  9. i ll be the devils advocate.. sales of printed material are in free fall, space on supermarket shelves is impossible to buy, space on wh smith shelves almost as hard local independents wont carry unless its full SOR, paper and printing costs are rising faster than inflation the market is hideously niche/ specialist SMALL. the specific market is renowned as being low spend. look away from your target market at other specialist magazines and under stand how they work and if they survive. the best example might be Singletrack magazine based in todmorden.fanatstic product head and shoulders above competitors, small staff highest quality paper printing photography to die for very low subscription prices massive virtual prescence and this in a high end high desposable income market and i dont see any of them driving anything but vans.. if you were on dragons den i guarentee EVERY dragon would be OUT.
  10. if the forks are running 'low' ie front end down or compressed you have a spring issue not oil... oil or no oil forks will be the same height..the oil impacts how they move when compressed/extended but even then the major force is from the springs..
  11. certainly the west riding trial but the section is the gully behind the 'waggon and horses' on the road out of oxenhope toward hebden bridge. the only times i rode this section in the west riding ( late 90's) it had to be ridden 'unseen'. usually on the return from the long moorland ride out toward Peckett Well the waggon and horses like so many public houses has probably had its last pint pulled..
  12. you ve made your first mistake already.. if it aint broke dont fix it..
  13. he once left me the part on his kitchen window sill.. cant fault that.. cant remember where i was supposed to leave the fiver..TOP TIP.. do not mention its for a trials bike.. NOT a fan.
  14. there used to be just such a thing on the beta site.. there is no manual other than the basic owners guide that new bikes came with. but frankly they are simple things and these very pages are the font of all knowledge
  15. 10 grands very reasonable for that level of kit out, simple 4 wheel car trailers can easily be that much.

    198A Rebuild

. looks first brand new.. better than even. please keep the pics coming they can be a valuable resource for other builders.. makes me smile to see trials bikes built on a piece of towel so not to scratch it before you fling it at rocks.
  17. paul jackson makes a cracking frame, see yorks classic trade pages

  19. covered many many times in these pages.. get dating letter from an approved source ( via dvla website) get nova1 from hmrc get insurance on frame number get mot on frame number pop in post with a cheque.. wait.. wait either you ll get it all back with a 'dear john' letter or you ll get a v5c or you ll get an appointment to produce said vehicle for inspection..
  20. both selector forks are the same so whip out the other and compare. personally i think one of the arms looks too short from my experience , getting bantam boxes together isnt straight forward but there are worse to work on.
  21. stripped down i dont think theres that much between a std fantic 200 and the tlr.. geomtry is a bit lazy on the honda but it was a bike built for trails not trials. overall even farily std the tlr is an effective tool to throw at rocks
  22. http://bsanotrun.angelfire.com/gearbox.html the internet is a room with an open door..
  23. 6 in the front 4 in the back.. but as the tlr is a grip monster you ll be fine
  24. run great on the amal. all jets etc available quickly and cheaply the best bantams and the simplest cnversions use the 626 cant see the advantage of the mikuni.
  25. we use this stuff up here in yarkshire.. H2O.
