Yep,
I agreed with matin, rear loop....AND the replicas had dutati ignition instead of motoplat!
Most people would recommend falcon shocks, I think njb experts are great value. I would also recommend a WES, althogh some dont like them at all! And I swapped the 300 engine for a 303 unit. Spares are easier and the flywheel weight is adjustable. Most parts are available except rear guards which are unobtainium of 70 quid on ebay!

Yeah, I agree with that one....and I paid the 400 euros on the 240. I think the hacksaw cut frame on the 200, which wasnt in the ebay text, woz enuff to justify walkin

Just to give another opinion on the ebay stuff.
1.) I spotted a "running" 200 on ebay here in germany. As I always do I asked some questions via mail and offered the guy around 300 euros which is about 200 uk pounds or 250 dollars if he offered it as a buy it now! The guy agreed by mail and i drove the 200 miles to have a look. What a mess, welded gear lever. Exhaust pipe welded to silencer, silencer welded onto frame, kick start welded, chrank cases welded underneath and somebody had cut through one of the frame tubes with a hacksaw for some reason. Strange. Felling a bit P?/ssed at traveling 200 miles i told the guy that he had a pile of cr%p and didnt want to insult him by offering well less than the 300 euros I had mentioned in my mail. The guy was very apologetic and said 150 euros to which i offered and got it for 120! Thats 80 dollars or about 70 pound uk. The forks are ok as are the wheels, brakes, tank, electrics, carb and after stripping the bike, the crank, bore and piston is also very good!
2.) same website, 240 fantic. I offered the guy around 400 euros to sell it now which he accepted. Transferred 100 via paypal and dropped by on my next business trip a few days later. (If I had not been in that area on business , I would not have started to negotiate. The bike was really quite good and much better than I expected for spares or repair! Frame, forks, airbox and engine all very usable, although the clutch slips!
My moral....at least it works here,, make the seller an offer to stop the auction and sell it for "around XXX" with a buy it now. Offer to transfer a small deposite via paypal to cover his costs and then go and haggle.
Need any parts anyone?

how about I sent you my 200, and you send me the 300......

Hi Glenn, before ou go and change things drastically , like fitting a new carb, what size is your main jet....a 98 or 99 I imagine. Fit a 95 and clean out and repack the silencer. I think it will cure the problem!

Hi Glenn,
I have looked at my 243 engined 240- It has a PHBH26 carb, which I think came from a 300 fantic. main Jet is 95, Pilot Jet is 45, It has a X5 needle and a BN264 Needle Jet (Needle runs in this!) The starter jet is a 70. Finally the float jet (rises and falls with the float to stop and start petrol flow) has 200 stamped on the side. The bike has a std. 240 exhaust and a wes silencer and the porting has been advanced by putiing two base gaskets, lowered exhaust and transfer ports and the head was skimmed by 0,6mm. I have a stainless flywheel weight added to calm things down. The bike pulls very well off the bottom and revs out fully in any section.
Hope this helps.

Dick Walker at WES has had some oversize pistons made. If you cant contact him direct, phone steve goode to ask as he deals with wes bits

Hi Glenn,
click on the picture with the right hand mouse button and use "open with" and use the microsoft program paint. You canthen stretch your pictures in x and y by 0,5 and the picture will be much smaller.
I will check the 300 carb I have on my 240 and lket you know the jet sizes here

Yes, the 305 motor can be sQUEEZED in but the frame needs modding. The bigger flywheel will sit on the bottom right frame tube and there are three oiptions. 1) Flaten the tube substantialy with a big hammer. I did this for my 303 motor and them added a top engine mount also. 2.)The second option is to cut out tone or both bottom frame tubes. I and many others dont recommend this as the 240 frame is weak at the headstock. Some have done it and used a 303 sumpguard. This version can only work with a top engine mount I think. The thrid option is to leave the fraME AND MAKE NEW FROM ENGINE MOUNTS: tHE BACK MOUNT ON THE SWINGARM PIVOT STAYS THE SAME AND THE FRONT ; WHEN LIFTING THE ENGINE TO CLEAR THE FRAME TUBES; WILL MOVE UP ABOUT 25MM AND BACK SLIGHTLY: hAVE A LOOK IN THE FANTIC SECTION AS i HAVE PICTURES OF WHAT i DID: (oops!)

Hi Glenn, I run stock champion L82C on all my 240s. Also the 243 engined bike runs this plug. The gap I set at 0,55mm. It works ok but I jet down to 95 or 96 on the main as i dont run on the road! ( I also use ELF full synthetic oil at 80:1 mix, which I also use on my GG300)
I have got one 240 fitted with a 26mm carb from a 300. it uses stock 300 jetting and seems to run ok on that! I think it also gives a little extra performance on the 240 engine. The 243 engined bike has a std 240 carb but is zippier (?) than the 240s as I have changed the ports and timing a little!
I have WES silencers fitted to all my fantics. They are the best and I would recommend them to all, especially considering that the original can from fantic must be full of S

Hi Glenn,
my mam bought me the sweatshirt. It came from bride motocross in exeter and cost abot 12 pounds......it was in 1981!!!

Hi Martin, your site is very impressive and there is lots of info. And certainly the price of your spares is excellent. (An advert for martin, I dont know how he does it!) If I think what the 200/240 side panels cost me to make and buy and them compare to your parts.....
All we now need to do is teach bill pye how to set up a website, and then get him to use your prices........
I saw you bid on the jumbo in italy, (as I did also) which was eventually bough by Olaf koster here. Olaf said he knew all the bidders...maybe we should comunicate more...or is that illegal and called price fixing....never mind.

PS will you be riding the dartmoor two day in september?
And to Glenn...what do you mean by so loose?
-
I rode a 280 swm from 1982 at the last trial I attended. It seemed to have much smoother power than the 240 Fantic I normaly ride (243 engine fitted). The top end I would say is about the same. I must admit the guy who owns the bike has set it up very well and it was really nice to ride. If I didnt have so many 240s and bits for them, I might have been temped to try the swm route also.
Having said that I have no idea what the parts supply situation is for these bikes and Fantics are bad enough although there were 18000 240s made!

Hi Steve, was out of the country so the nut went in the post today. see you in september at the dartmoor?

I have no problem finding my fantic parts although some did prove difficult. Those parts which i could get, i made. that is very often the only way. Altough Bill Pye seems to be the man for fantic, both streve goode and bob wright in avon can get most parts. And in case you did not know, fantic built and sold 18.000 240s before they stopped. Secondand hand bits are available if you look. Kickstarts and shafts are being remade and I will be having some clutch basket done so watch this space.
i thinks it is similar for most makes, I get all my TY250 parts from John at Trial and TRAIL and SWM parts are also available from SWM MOTO in avon so pick and choose....
I think the parts pricesa re still ok also, I paid 60 euros for a flywheel cover for my gasgas and a remade 200 cover costs about 100 ish so not too bad.
My advice would be a 200/240 fantic first or a TY175/250

hallo Sheps,
maybe you want to swap that Suzuki for a fantic....I
-
I wish i could get those sort of prices for the bits I sell......a front wheel will cost yall 25 quid, and ignition 50......
Flywheel covers are no longer unobtainium.
PS Send me a PM with your adress bilco and I will send you a flywheel nut!

Ebay will always be a risk if you dont view beforehand. On the other hand, if I sell a bike on ebay (5 so far) I write reams....The guy should have told about the welded gearlever, and also the forks having no oil...or maybe it should have been asked....or maybe you should have walked away.
I will usually pay max 300 euros here (200 quid) for a fantic 200 without looking at it first. At that price the total risk is low. I will pay more if I can check it beforehand. With spares becoming more and more scarce, the bikes are worth more as parts than as bikes......
We all know wot it cost me to have flywheel covers made. The bike from ebay as a runner is ok ish.

Hi Stu, I now have the bike back from italy! In excellent nick, has never been off road. I fitted a new rear michelin and will change the sprocket kit! The chome on one fork leg is buggered...will a 200 down tube fit? I have one of those! I did send you a pm but got no reply....let me know wot you have
lee

No, just fit it! If it is used, change the packing maybe!

If it has a motoplat ignition, which is unlikely, there will be two wires. let me know the colours and I will tell you which fits the large and which fits the small terminal

Somebody asked??? All the sections had a powervalve, as did the costa, although that didnt go far. The 95 had a steel frame, the 96 and 97 had alu frames but the 96s broke.....so they say. my 95 had a crack in either side also, but it woz easy to repair and seems to be holding.
The engines were all the same but the ignitions, although all from ducati were different depending on market. I think all northern yurup conuntries got the flywheel where the weight can be added. The Forks were either 38mm betors or 40mm marzocchis.....Gasgas, you were not the first....although you are also not bankrupt!!!
The 97 and 96 swingarms do not fit a 95 due to the different brake caliper. most parts are still available (hallo bill pye!!!;-)) and I love my section.

i need the harley kick on mine also but the spark plug gap at 0.5mm helps too....
