I do this by removing the wheel spacers then using a socket thats a snug fit inside the bearing but wont go throught the centre tube I tap the bearing through the opposite side of the hub. Once the centre tube has some play you can use a long screwdriver or rod.
I'm too tight to buy a rawl plug

Perce v the artist formely known as GasGasBen should recommence anytime now......
-
also power delivery is a factor here. If you put the 240 fantic engine in the Gas Gas frame it wouldnt grip the same as with the Gas Gas engine.
I had a 240 fantic as a kid, rocky trials were great, muddy trials stay at home.
-
surely its OSSAMAR bin laden ?
-
difficult to be sure as he could be telling you anything. I think its possibly more than 5 mins and hes just covering his back but you need to judge that. Its a nikasil liner so you cant rebore it you would need to re coat the liner and I think thats over

-
This is my theory so dont kill me for it but a polite correction is perfectly acceptable.
I think grip is related to weight distribution and keeping the wheel on the ground. If the shock was adjusted to compensate for a change in swinging arm length then I think a shorter swinging arm should grip better as the rider and engine are closer to the rear tyre ??
-
yes as long as its ok for aluminium it should be fine. I ran my TYZ for three years on neat anti freeze from the local car accesory shop with no problems.
-
check there is some free play at the lever, it needs a bit of clearence.
-
Warden Law isnt floodlit, at least the trials bit isnt last time I went so you need to go in daylight hours.
-
i was onto to can number 5 at the time and wondered how bad it would read today
-
I'm going to shoot Perce and you chewy
for once can we have a positive thread
personally I like that if I had a tardis and took my gas gas 300, which I would never sell by the way, back to 1975 I would be world champion .
miserable old gits the pair of you
Stella forever

i can t believe i've just seen Mart it what looked suspiciously like a track suit !
my image of the all conquering beer supping hero is now permanently tarnished

is anyone good going to ride one next year ?
most of the top guys are signed now
-
I dont think this is a valuable exercise.
unless your short of power which I doubt, or the engine is noisey just leave it be.
if you go and fit a piston or rings to get it back like new you will have spent a fair bit of money to get even more power which I doubt you need.
just have fun riding it and dont worry about possible problems that might not exist
-
THe SSDT was yellow numbers on a black background when I first rode it and in those days there was a board on each side of the bike at the back as well.
-
I think from memeory that the Honda version released the fuel and air into the combustion chamber after the piston had closed off the exhaust port on the way back up. That way no unburnt fuel gets out.
this is me trying to recall the article in Motor Cycle News from about 1990 and now trying to picture it in my head so forgive if i'm talking more cobblers than usual.
-
I agree and I suggested a pipe from the front of the tank up to the steering head, this would also increase fuel capacity for SSDT etc. I have passed the idea to a sherco dealer so you never know I / we might get some royalties
the JCM with the tank under the seat had the filler located in the top tube of the frame and a rubber pipe to connect the top tube to the tank. As the sherco has a perimter frame this wont work but I would have thought a large diameter fuel hose could be passed under the filter box or along side it ?
-
I think your kidding
none of the above would be a good choice for a beginner.
James Dabill runs a flywheel weight on a 300 Gas Gas and hes british champion.
you need a 250 or less, all of the bikes have good and bad points so pick a clean secondhand bike no more than 250 then come back and the forum members will explain how to ride it / maintain it.

Thanks to Weardale Club
yesterdays trial was excellent.

as a distraction to my esteemed colleagues
has fuji got a montesa contract yet for next year ?
and whilst the Beta / Dibs story is still going why do Gas Gas, according to the factory website, think they have signed Dibs ?
is Gizza entering the six day and if so will it be on the BMW or the slightly heavier 4rt ?
has dabster done the SSDT ? will he ride this year under the AG banner ???
-
good point, hes not mentioned
-
my 07 290 was exactly the same when new and I did what you have done, made the power delivery nicer and didnt stall as easy. Personally I think they are too far advanced out of the box. Yes it runs a little hotter but mine went round the ssdt like that and didnt overheat once so I wouldnt worry too much.
