some of it is probably image and maybe not true but how about the first World Champ ?
Martin Lampkin, drank beer, rode a bulto, won everything in his day.
No Bull !

I'm 13 st and never had a problem with the standard spring, I used to have the pre load as soft as it would go.
before you do anything else fit a zip tie round the fork, not to tight just enough so that it will still slide when the fork seal cap comes into contact with it. Then go and ride some sections and see how much travel you actually using. Unless the forks are using full travel on a regular basis then the spring is prob ok.

Whilst this thread is making very dull reading, as most of it has been said before in many different forums and media could I politely ask that people check the title of the thread.
White Brothers I understand are closing on the 23rd which is bad news for us and for the staff. Its a bad thing to happen but especially the week before Christmas.
Hope the staff and owners get sorted out in the new year with employment somewhere.

A guy with a 2011 told me his bike came with bushes in the linkage not bearings so may be less of a problem going forward.
-
no Mr Efficiency will be posing round the metro centre with his snow shovel looking for chicks to dig out in his goretex coat
Merry Christmas boys
lets get off the mudslinging or i'm posting a link to Paul McCartney and his pipes of piece !

I dont think manufacturers can carry on increasing retail price.
there a simple rules in economics and business.
a product is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, its not necessarily worth what it costs to manufacture or what the manufacturer thinks it is worth.
If a manufacturer cant sell a product at a profit there is no point making it, thats called going into liquidation in the long term.
So Yamaha can increase a road bike by 10% next year if they wish, if no one is buying now then who cares apart from Yamaha ?
Montesa can do the same with the 4rt,
-
did you change bearings as they run in the gearbox oil so if the inner seals gone on the bearing oil will get through.
did you replace centre gasket ?
-
just to be awkward.....
i thought you were not to practice there
hope local councillor wasnt watching
-
its realy good for the club to see the event oversubscribed however I would not be too upset if they got 270 entries......
fat chance of that happening

In terms of production bikes having ridden both I think there is very little in it between a gas gas and a sherco. I think it has much more to do with confidence of the rider and support they receive.
-
Good point Dabster
There were still steps and drops in fort william last year but not as many.
If you watch the videos or talk to those that were there what was surprising was that the top guys often lost their marks before they even got to the step or drop. Cabestany is a fantastic rider but how many people thought he would lose 40 + at the SSDT ? (from memory cant recall exactly).
There is still a kind of section that most people can attempt without getting hurt but will take marks off the top boys. Look at the sections at the top of the gondola, I'm not suggesting that lots of people could get out of them but lots could at least have a go.
The World round was of course stop permitted but use of the time limit made the sections almost non stop.
I think the sport has gone wrong when you need a minder in a centre trial.
Yes the rules are part of the problem but I still think the answer is in the hands of the CoC.

why can I only get one vieo to work on that site ?
do I need to join ?
-
This is the thing with Enduro I just dont get.
At the Tough One the trials bike was faster to the point the organisers pulled Browny out of the race. In the NE centre keilder enduro a few years ago some local trials lads went along on their trials bikes, including a tlr 200. Yes they got blown away on the fire roads but passed the enduro bikes on the rough stuff quite easlily.
now the best enduro rider in the world has just been beaten by a guy on a downhill MTB.
I dont doubt the ability of the riders but are the bikes actually any good at what they are designed for ?
-
check the frame at the top of the rad for cracks, check the same round the front engine mount.
radiator can leak if the fan has worn through it so get it running until the fan cuts in.
linkage / head bearings like any other bike.
apart from that solid bike, good motor.

Sorry, yes it makes a lot of sense before anyone suggests I didnt think Dans letter made sense !
-
Its a well written letter, I think the sport does need to look at the number of very good riders now riding middle or easy course as the top class is dwindling in numbers in Northern trials that I attend.
I dont think the rules help but people expect an easier day at a trial now and certainly dont want to lose 50 marks +. I often do lose more than 50 but i'm sticking with the harder route while I still enjoy it, not always but most of the time. I think once I start riding the middle course there is no going back as the top class is the only one thats progressing in terms of severity.
the other side of the coin is that I'd rather people dropped down a course than dropped out altogether. Ultimately if things carry on we may see locally what we have at national and international level were the step up to the top class is just too big for people to bridge.
The answer is in the hands of the CoC, sections dont need to be dangerous to take marks, Cabestany lost marks in section 3 or 4 at the SSDT on day 1 for example. BUT big or dangerous sections will drive the older riders to the middle course.
just my view.

Fat Lass or Fat Girl, a term commonly applied to the 4RT Montesa.
as its the current World trials Champ winning machine Mototrial seems perfectly appropriate. I just call it trials when I talk to people not of my religion, this normally results in a brief conversation about kickstart and Eurosport indoor trials. If I say off road bike most guess I have a mountain bike..........

So after Albert Cabestany's visit last year will he return and try and win the centenary of the event ?
will Dougie drag Raga over to ride ? Raga rode in 1999 or 2000 I beleive
Fajardo has also ridden before and wouldnt it look good for Ossa to win the centenary at its first attempt in its new form
Fuji would enjoy the moors but would Montesa relent and allow him to ride even if he wanted to ?
Would make for a fascinating week, the brits could still win even if the above showed up based on last year.
any body know if any of the world stars are intending to ride ?
-
Its difficult to measure but i think its the relationship between the pivot and the adjuster screw thats different. I think this is correct as the clutch action is heavier with the apico lever and the bushes dont appear to change this if swapped over.

ah I see what you mean now
-
I have heard rumours that a man was spotted on a night out in Newcastle wearing a coat. Not a local obviously
-
I was going to photo the link from the front page and email it to you

Not quite right
the frame is different from 2009 as its the tubular style, the 2011 is just an update on the 2009. I think the frame was largely unchanged from 2002 though to 2008 so may be possible to fit forks / shock / radiator etc from later models to your 2002 frame if you wanted.
