Minor changes 05 to 08 but I think 09 was a more significant change with yokes, exhaust and I think steering angle or longer shock. A good condition 05 with suitable mods is probably on a par with a later bike.

Not sure of the ready to trial weight of the Mont but you can be sure it will be the same weight at the end unlike some of its less well built competotors that shed bits of useful metal as the days go on

I found the pins had become a loose fit in the rubber bushes. I tapped out the bush inside to M8 or M10 and then screwed bolts through the sprocket into the bush. No play and still have bushes and cost nowt to do.

You need some green, white, yellow flags, some tape and a few make shift branches on the ground as well to make it really realistic.
Happy practising

Ben - think there was a recent thread on this if you do a search. Can't remember outcome.

I think WSW is very lucky to have a structure like Project 2000 and probably as good as anything else in the country for helping to get new riders into the sport - hire bikes, clothing, cheap instruction, free advice etc. However nothing is perfect so any suggestions as to specific weaknesses that you have found can try to be addressed either by the centre, the clubs or Project 2000directly. The idea of conducted trials before B grades has widely been adopted by the clubs (and thanks go to the few that organise these) and recently there have been some dead easy trials this year etc.Having been involved in the sport for many years we may take things for granted that the newbie finds to be a barrier however I like to think the WSW centre is a small and friendly one and we are all willing to help where we can. We have centre board this Weds and trials forum next Weds if you have any suggestions.

Ducati 996"In the 2 yrs that we have been doing trials,we have found it very difficult with very little help as a result i feel fed up and have got to the point where i dont care who i upset or offend and that includes you Mr Collins".
WSW has an excellent support structure through the Project 2000 training and coaching set up - this helps all riders to progress and enjoy the sport more and is all done on a voluntary basis. Not sure if you have been to one but to say nothing is done in this centre to support riders is incorrect.

Glad to hear things are sorted - wonder if anybody can explain the logic in this though as your issues was hot starting which you would think would not be that weather related. My 09 went a little this way but spent a day cleaning all electrical connections, cleaned out throttle body bore and tickover port and also a new std plug and seems better. May try the alternative plug if things start to deteriote again.

I measured my 4rt and copied- made big difference

Fairy liquid - dry in airing cupboard - re apply with spray filter oil - clean filter every ride

Please note that in 2013 there will be 2 British Solo Trials Championships:
British Solo Trials Championship – Stop Allowed Rules. ( TSR 22A)
Details are being finalised but it is envisaged that this would be a three round Championship on a restricted area closed course (each round one or two day duration).
Entries would be limited to a max of 25/30 riders of proven ability in possibly two classes.
British No-Stop Trials Championship. ( TSR 22B)
4 or 5 rounds, (each round 1 or two day duration) These events would follow a similar format to the 2012 BTC Championship however without the practice lap.

I guess its all a bit sad - in realiIty it would of been nice for Micheal to have won his 1st BTC and think this would probably do him a world of good. It would also be a shame for James to have title taken away in protests. Malc, Shirty, John, Martin, Birks etc in years gone by have all world class riders and some have become super minders importers.
The sport at this level is all about maximising the slightlest advantage.
Good minders make a big difference and in recent years the "team" have followed the team leader. I believe riders in recent years have only ever been allowed 1 minder but the team bosses/importers have assisted when they could get away with it.
It sounds like the Mitchell as normal was a good trial and knowing the guys was more than likely well set out and organised. Its a shame for the sport that everybody has done what they belive was the right thing and we have ended up with what we have now. I do think the more we can get back to organisers setting out challenging sections and the rider riding them (on his own abilty) the better. - be this no stop/stop allowed/no minder/full team back up allowed at the end of the day it shoud be the course as set out by the CofC againt the rider and bike.
Here's to 2013 - whatever it may bring but 2012 should be seen as a positive year and a good exercise and what ever is said its better to try something rather than talking about it and wondering what if,

All most certain the dog bone and bearing have not changed from 315 times. Is the dog bone a std one, if so try any of the reputable Montesa spares suppliers
-
Which bearings have you a problem with. Dog bone or shock rose bearings?.
-
Had 315s, 05 4rt and now 09 and never noticed a difference in dog bone bearings.Never changed rose joint tho
-
From memory they had straight spokes and not the Z spokes. The sprocket mounting was stronger compared to std but don't think they had any performence advantage.
-
X lite definately the best but most expensive.
X11 seem fine
IRC I found questionable = seems to need to be spinning then good grip in mud but as not confident inspiring as X lite.Seem to get better when worn a little!

Don't think any acu ruling stops inspection of the section - for reasons pete - scorpa says above.
No rider has to attempt a section if not happy.
Also not sure what rule stops minders/catchers in the section. I think worst case is at observers discretion. If COC over rules standing regs and NSC then is in danger of being isolated in a case of law- hence regular COC seminars.
Not sure why any COC would want to stop section inspection and catchers.
PS Buck stops with COC ref duty of care - especially if they make specific instructions
-
With the state of world trials you would of thought that the rules would be strictly enforced to try and keep the playing field as level as possible and at least limit some of the costs.
Off the shelf Tyres could be supplied on the day and only fitted by representative of the tyre company and mimimum weight is a piece of cake to check.

I recently MOTed my 09 4rt - fitted correct sized No plate and stuck reflector on to this. Push bike speedo fromLidl and a good electric horn off ebay. Clips on with elastic straps and 9v battery,
Took bike on trailer

I have mine set pretty much mid way on the front and rear compression/rebound settings - probably std as the bike comes. I run rear spring quiet soft. Unsrew 2 collars downwards until back end feels as soft as you like it. Unless you need to be doing trick stuff in the car park use the back end for grip as the mont rear suspension on streams and rocks is superb when left to do its job.

Welcome to the gang - glad you enjoy, Mainly same as above. I tend to change engine oil and filter every 4 to 5 months but do an oil change in between. I always clean brakes after every event and a clean air filter, A freshly oiled filter especilally if using a spray filter oil makes the bike a pig to start, I always oil the filter and then leave it an hour or so before fitting to the bike. Gerabox oil changed same time as engine oil -I use ATF but there is a whole host of forum posts on this subject. Fit a case saver to front sproket - you'll regret if you don't and your change comes off, Fit some mesh to air vents on mudguard to stop too much junk getting into air filter. I cut up a frying pan cover and used soldering iron to melt into plastic on underside of mudguard, Footrest brackets may need a little strenghtening over time as they are quiet soft. A bigger bash plate is also a good idea if riding hard on rocks. Apart from that just get out enjoy one of the best quality bikes about.
