  1. A change in mapping can make a big difference to the way the bike feels and responds to the throttle. It can alter the way the power comes in and how the bike revs out. It can't generate lots more power like a 280 or 300 conversion can but will make a noticeable difference from a soft beginners map to a harsh expert/dry weather map. Difficulty I find is having time and finding a suitable section to try them on back to back. Especially if trying similar maps. I have switchable PTB and have a played with a few maps. I had a 05 with Sains map which I liked and never changed, My current 09 came with "mild and wild" and a 280 kit and hated the maps (mild too flat and wild was very sharp but felt to drop off higher revs compared to Sains and on double blip step I missed the second stage of throttle response). Changed to my Sains map and a Mitani 280 map which felt a little similar and bike felt much better and similar to what I was used to. However changed back to a 250 as 280 seemed to be dragging me around. I stick with Sains map as main map and have tried several maps in the second map. Have tried 250 mitani which is very similar, tried a Scott map from Sandifords which felt a bit like Sains at lower end but flatter at higher revs and I think more efficient. Currently have OTAR5 off http://members.quicknet.nl/sw.zeinstra/4RT/index.htm Which feels again similar to Sains but flatter and softer. However I find it a little lacking having got so used to Sains map that I tend not to use it. I think if you switch to a map then it is better to get used to it and not use 2 maps in a trial unless maybe you run a soft map as standard and then have a more powerful/aggressive map just for when you need it. The web site mentioned above has several maps and software downloads which can compare maps. Anybody else's comments to maps they like would be interesting. I am currently looking at a suitable map for friends bike as he is finding a sains map a little too much for his style of riding -looking for smooth map with minimal engine braking as he is a little harsh on and off the throttle.

    differences

had 05 and now 09 - i think 06 had better clutch plates amd master cyl which I fitted to my 05. I think 06 to 08 then minor tweaks on cam but nothing major -could be wrong. 09 change of exhaust, steering angle and fat bars. Definately better. Not sure if 10 and 11 any different.
  3. I think he is quiet good between the flags as well - could be wrong though!!!!!
  4. Has it always been like this or has it got worse. Presume no restrictors left in anywhere
  5. Look out for low mileage 4rt as well is speedo is driven off front wheel.
  6. Std map? Air filter clean? Tick over? Search forums - lots on here. What have you looked at and checked already?
  7. not sure what size needed but allow for somewhere to fit a std adapter bit into to take small drive sockets and screw driver bits. Becomes very universal then.

    piston slap

Seem to recall barrel is marked on N/s below inlet manifold A,B or C. Get Piston to suit and is the change part as bore doesn't wear unless damaged. Dont think rings and piston kit are silly money so if apart and you have concerns worth a swap. 315s are a little nosiy at tick over. A bit pinky!!! Best of luck

    Blisters

Search E bay but I think most trials/enduro shops do them - about
  10. Whatever tools you take make sure you try them out in the garage first. Might find you can't get everywhere with a bulky spanner etc. Will the plug come out with an adjustable spanner? I welded 20mm stub cut off the large allen key needed for front spindle to an adjustable and also welded screw driver blade to it to make a multi tool. Drilled handle as well 2 tyre levers should suffice. Puncture repair patch also weights nothing but maybe handy if nobody is able to give you a new tube if you puncture early on in the day. Tie wraps essential - bit of rope/strapping again weighs nothing but may allow you to tie round rear wheel/tyre if tyre comes of the rim to get you off the moors. Worth running slightly higher front tyre pressure to avoid needing to use puncture stuff

    Blisters

Palm savers and donuts on good quaity grips seem to work really well. Helped me get 3/4 way round the scott without major issues with my hands . Just need a fix for the rest of the body
  12. Possible pads/disc contaminated or glazed - water helps clean surface
  13. Probably less than most riders belly's - mine included
  14. A bit mad but love it. If fuel goes up much more will be ditching the Vito and 4rt for good old Crackerjack the cob cross thoroughbred - just don't tell the missus Ive nicked him to go to work on!
  15. Just seen on other web site Graham Jarvis to ride Pidcock 4rt in SSDT and Scott. Looks like a super signing to me. Nice to see Pidcocks making an impact after 12 month as UK importer, also announcing a few supported riders. I'm sure my offer is in the post still!!!! Go Montesa
  16. Would be a shame for all the hard work by the club to be wasted if the round was dropped from Championship but can't see how the the club can be 100% confident the correct route was ridden by all on the 6 alternate route sections. Scrubbing these 6 section for B,C,& D classes would seem sensible compromise. Lets hope it gets resolved fr everybodies benefit.
  17. ???"The sections were the second section in Wrights, first two in Etching and the last two in Booths." Hard section where 2nd and 4th in Wrights 1st in Etching (and 2nd) 2nd and 3rd in Booths
  18. Route 1 all hard Route 2 all easy Route 3 35 easy, 5 hard. Final instructions/Program only stated 2 options therfore really should have been supplimentary instruction at the start that there was to be a 3rd combination rather than by chance seeing the starts cards as you mentioned.
  19. Thought was a cracking ride round and organisation (apart from above issues ) was very good. However if there is any doudt that some riders did not ride the alternative route then these sections should be scrubbed from results. I can't actually recall any information or notices at the start stating a 3rd route was added to that stated in program but I could of missed it. This may of added to confusion.
  20. Can't save much on PTB unless you see one second hand but Maps are available to down load on web sites and try find a friend with PC and leads - unless you just like playing once you get a couple of good maps in I wouldn't mess too much. You can always post the PTB to someone like Msport to load maps for you if you cant lend leads.Probaly cheaper than buying the full set up!
  21. No 141 -start 10.11am -finish 5.11pm hope that helps
  22. Not seen any other post on here other than the super quick results service but last weekends Normadale double header was a cracking weekend and thanks must go to all that helped put the two events on. I believe both trials had full entries and the organisers put on events that admirably catered for this number of riders.
  23. Got my program in post today. Give me your details and I can let you know. Anybody any info on what sort of terrain we will be encountering as never ridden this before-hope its rocky streams again!! Presume similar to Peak trial

  25. I'm probably like the 170odd other watchers who can't move the rear wheel either but I find turning the front marginally in the direction you want the rear to go and then apply pressure to the opposite arm as you lift the back help. As the bike hopefully starts to move swing your hips to carry on with the movement. All about setting your centre of gravity moving in the direction you want to go! If in doubt just ride the bike with both wheels on the ground and leave the hopping to dibs and browny.
