There's a thin washer at the bottom of the damper rod which can become bent, this allows the oil past to quickly and causes topping out. Easy to fix, you will need a rod to go down the centre of the forks with a tappered end to stop the internals rotating as you turn the allan bolt at the bottom of the forks to allow dismantling.

    Eating Plugs

Hi Pat Having this problem with an Amal carb, bike starts easily, runs well, plenty of power - but I can feel the plug going off, then a slight misfire, then stops. New plug, good as new. Ross
  7. Just been through the "how much is your present policy" routine - must have asked me four times.

'bigwig' I thank you for taking the time to answer, but your answer does confict with others above, hence my hesitation.
  9. Talk amongst yourselves.
  10. Every observer has to put up with a bit of hassle at one time or another. Why not go back to the score card with instant exclusion for asking what you dropped ! Seems a bit draconian I know, but I have personally seen virtually all the top (pre65) riders getting off with marks / 5's purely because it would be to much of a hassle / spoil the observers day to give the correct mark. I don't really expect any response to this by the way.

Thanks again for your input all - jon v8 - I've literally just put on a new coil and havn't been out since, I will see what happens. OTF - only plugs I could get were resistor, will keep using them with the new coil to try and rule the coil / ht out. Stork955 - you may well be right as it runs fine at the the bottom of the rev range. I'le keep you posted, may be some time as winter has returned ! Ross
  14. True - but I think its about 3 : 1 to you at the moment.

Hi jon v8. Plenty of power, and its only a slight blueness to the exhaust gas, so never bothered to do anything about it. Would agree if there were clouds of smoke following me about.

    Eating Plugs

Thanks OTF,houseape1000, Stork955 & bigwig. OTF - its about a plug a trial so would like to find a solution. houseape1000 - tried all sorts of plugs, crossreferenced, not much difference. Stork955 - plug is dry and blackish, carb (Amal) is new and has all the jets, slide cut away, needle etc as recommended by Surrey Cycles. Plug is NGK BPR5ES or Bosch W8DC which is recommended. Bike runs well and foam air filter is oiled with Partner air filter oil, I have tried less oil in the air filter but it makes the running worse. What do you think of bigwigs recommendation of a BP4ES ? bigwig - have tried a 5 & 6 and as you say has made no difference. Thought you risked you piston by using to cold a plug, so never went that way. Is this a long term solution? Thanks Ross
  17. Dear Deirdre I am a sailor in the merchant navy. My parents live in South London and one of my sisters, who lives in Brixton, is married to a guy from Newcastle. My Father and Mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana and are currently dependent on my two sisters, who are prostitutes. I have two brothers, one who is currently serving a non-parole life sentence in Wormwood Scrubs for the rape & murder of a teenage boy in 1994, the other currently being held in Wandsworth on remand on charges of incest with his three children. I have recently become engaged to marry a former Thai prostitute who indeed is still a part time "working girl" in a brothel, however, her time there is limited as she has recently been infected with an STD. We intend to marry as soon as possible and are currently looking into the possibility of opening our own brothel with my fiancee utilising her knowledge of the industry working as the manager. I am hoping my two sisters would be interested in joining our team. Although I would prefer them not to prostitute themselves, it would at least get them off the streets and hopefully the heroin. My problem is this: I love my fiancee and look forward to bringing her into the family and of course I want to be totally honest with her. Should I tell her about my brother-in-law being a Geordie ?
  18. My B40 has a bit of an appetite for plugs, tried different makes with little discernable difference. Also use different carbs, Amal for those where you have to, and Kehin the rest of the time. Burns a bit of oil so plug gets black anyway and difficult to get a proper picture. Runs a ticks over fine (particularly with Kehin) then develops a slight misfire before plug gives up completely. New plug and away she goes. Have heard this isn't unique to my bike. Any ideas ? Thanks Ross

  22. Think this has been posted before, but has anybody noticed the rider at 4.49 looks to be using the clutch. Thought this was illegal or something back then !
  23. About 20 years ago Honda refused to have cars and bikes under one roof, the Edinburgh dealer Chatham's had to get ride of the bikes by moving them to a new premises about 2 miles away. Changed times. Older but wiser ?
