No. I think they will struggle to keep going if sales stay as they are, so spares could be tricky. If its new and very very cheap maybe possibly.

Ride anything - yes but make no mistake these bikes are very special as are the riders. You cant even buy a Vertigo,HRC mont, Sherco (like Cabbys) or trs.

I rode in that trial! I believe it was North Grimston, to be accurate. And as a reality check so did malcom Rathmell I think and he was cleaning everything and i was struggling to get through most sections. Yes when we were younger trials were more straight forward the top lads were very good but good centre lads were not that far away from the top, for lots of various reasons not least the gulf between mart and the novice wasnt the same as it is now, it is as others have said an almost different sport the gap in ability is so vast. Golden era in some ways but turning up at a trial and knowing your bike will start without cleaning the points is progress itself. Good luck with the traditional trials but the demand wont be there with the calendar so full and series like the Normandale and previously Falcon trying and failing in a way.

Billy has gone to enduro as he cant afford to travel the wtc on shirt buttons. He is following in the footsteps of Jonny walker who at a similar age and level of trials riding realised that to carry on riding Bikes required a shift in disciplines. Chuff all to do with OSSA or in Jonnys case sherco or gas gas.

I do think with these things that people try to get an easy fix, there is sometimes no quick answer, but that said one thing can suit some people but not the majority. Its very easy to do one thing and then stick with it, rather than spend time in the workshop to prove it one way or another. Please try it. Fantics? work of the devil.

If i was you id try it again with it off and with a bit more experience you may find it better? Turn tickover up (or as you advised use the clutch!) to avoid stalling? As I sort of said in my answer previously you end up riding the bike rather than the section, clutch and brake to slow down because of the weight?

What has coloured my opinion is personal experience at the old bvm test day, when I was lined up to buy a beta and tested a 290 (back then) vs a 250. Both with weights. On trying the 250 up a climb i shut off near the top (where i felt comfortable i could reach the top) but the extra flywheel weight kept me going, ending up doing a wheelie up and over for a few extra yards, front end wouldnt come down. I accept that a weight can help insomuch as taking the edge off the sharpness on the flat sections but it also gives a "run on" and I think this is bad for a novice. There is an equal trade going on here. A) it means they end up rolling on into problems they learn to ride "around" the flywheel weight and C) although it might pick up quicker without weight the novice will learn the fundamental relationship between throttle and reaction of bike better, ie open it up it goes, shut it it stops. I would even go as far as to put a novice on 2 250s and if he prefers the bike with a weight vs one without put him on a 200 or even a 125?

That is a lie. You can make it back if the tyre stays on the rim nothing to do with sidewalls. Stiffer sidewalls probably means less grip. To buy a product because its good when it fails is not always the best policy.

can an electric bike complete the scott with a battery change at each petrol stop?

My sport involves a petrol engine.Im happy with that. If it requires maintaining then so be it, at least I can ride all day in the yorkshire hills and not worry about a flat battery. The sport has been my passion since 1973. Do not assume a simple question with 2 alternatives requires a simple answer as our sport is open to all on any machine. My trials has to include a petrol engine, until an electric can perform the same way, for as long. Expense is not a factor if the bike doesnt do what i currently can?
