Can anyone tell me where the wiring harness boot is positioned on a 74' TY 250? I do not remember but it looks like it would be best with the big side inserted into the frame right under the fuel tank to protect the wiring. Anywhere else does not make sense. Thanks

Looking for a new seat cover for my 1978 TY250. There seem to be more available for the TY175. I was wondering if anyone knew if they were interchangable? Thanks!

Hi guys back again for some more advice on my TY175 I am rebuilding the engine and wondering whether I should fit an oversized piston. The original problem was a very noisy Rattalee engine coupled with loss of power. The writing on the piston is clear in the picture any advice would be most welcome?

Hope im not violating any forum rules by posting (please delete if i am) but from a historical collectors perspective the price blew my mind...In case you missed it..from last month at a bike auction in Vegas..Granted they're pristine concours rebuilds but to see them actually sell for this $$s...crazy! i guess some people have very deep pockets... -wife didn't think much of my TY project till she saw this...now she wants to help polish it!

Hi I have just cleared my garage and now its time to start restoring my ty175 .I got it running and it goes through the gears ok but has a loud knocking noise. I removed the head barrel and piston hoping it was just the small end bearing but the big end has a bit of up and down and side to side movement. I am hoping some of you nice people out there can put me on to a good engine rebuilder. I am based in Liverpool but any where in the north west or north Wales will do. Will keep you up to date with the project and I am sure I will be picking your brains soon. Cheers.

I recall reading somewhere about using a Gas Gas swinging arm in the TY mono back in the day. Am I making it up or was it related to another bike?

  10. Hello friends, the mechanical ignoramus here again from Brooklyn NY. please bear with me as im sure you are fed up with me asking for advice, but time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted and if there's no such thing as a silly question etc... having followed all the sagacious insights from you all in my last post about winter storage, i was a bit saddened to find out the in-laws shed where i now keep the bike floods when it rains heavily leaving about 3-4" of standing water for a day or two until it drains. i deliberately raised it up about 6" off the ground on plywood and put some thick plastic sheeting underneath so the bike isn't directly in contact with th…

Hi, Can anybody tell me if the shock length is the same for the standard TY80 and the Big Wheel Whitehawk 80? It's got non standard shocks at moment and looking to replace them. Another question, does anybody run a 21" front wheel on theirs? It's had a 18" rear fitted but still got the 20" front usual tyre issues! Thanks.

Hi My Sammy Millar seat/fuel tank unit has failed. The bike has been sitting for a few years with some petrol in the tank which has broken down , there is loads of yellow sludge in the tank. The thread where the tap connects had loosened and is leaking. can this be repaired I would think I'd have to cut the base of the tank to repair fully.

Hey 175 guru's, just getting a 1976 up and running again. Starts first kick and ticks over like a swiss watch....but open throttle past 1/4 and it just dies out. Is this the classic "o" ring around the main jet problem, or something else. Carb has been stripped and carbie clean/airline blown out.

Hi, I'm new here, new to trials, but not new to motorcycles. I ride mainly KTMs, however I overhauled a 1979 CanAm 250 last winter. I use the term "Overhauled" because I have no intentions of a complete restoration at this time. I just want it safely ride-able. So I picked up a non-running 1978 TY175: It is in fair shape, complete, but with a few problems. Carb floods out and bike will not start due to flooded condition No air filter, ordered on Partzilla Oil pump off, but it does have the split cable, I ordered a single cable matching engine# and I have a 1979 frame as well, no other spares My switches…

Am assisting with the restoration of a pretty standard Yamaha TY 175 into a bike that will be ridden in trials, is the air cleaner/airbox perfectly ok as is or are there performance improvements to be gained by changes or even replacing with a different set up?

Hello esteemed and revered friends! so i finally got the ol' girl all finished (74 TY250a), with many many thanks to all you on here i'm deep in gratitude. So I recently left my job where i kept/worked on my bike (i'm onto bigger/better things) but sadly lost the indoor semi heated storage facilities. so now its the in-laws unheated garden shed in upstate NY! seeing as the winters here are super cold and brutal and i have a few other things on, I've decided to put her away till next spring when i have a bit more time to enjoy her Ive looked at many vid's on line regarding winter storage and there seems to be some confusion about whether to drain the tank or fi…
