So here is the last part to be burnt out or cleaned in some way. I was thinking maybe some drain cleaner? Drano or something like that? MEK? As you already may know, the exit hole is very small. So this does not lend itself to cleaning with a scraper or screwdriver. I have to go and get two more gallons of degreaser and soak this thing again overnight. but any thoughts are much appreciated.

Hi all, just bought my son a ty80 and, as i`m new to these little stinkwheels, i have a couple of questions. i have looked on here for the petroil pre mix ratio and have found 40:1, 50:1 and 66:1, are these measurements in millilitres to litres? if they are i would have thought 25:1 or 35:1 would have been plenty when using modern oils, also, will sae 10 w 40 be ok in the gearbox as i can`t find any sae10 w 30 anywhere? thanks in advance for any help. Pete.

I`m just going over a TY80 that I got for my kids to learn trials and have a couple of questions about some of the things of how they work. The first thing I want to know about is the rear brake pedal. Its seems to either be hitting the engine casing when not being used, or hitting the small angled bar that comes off the frame when trying to use the brake. There isnt a lot of room for travel, so whats the angled bar for ???? Whats its purpose ?? The other thing I want to know about is how the rear brake set up is meant to be, The way its set up is, having the thin rod connecting from the back of the brake pedal to the actuating lever on the rear wheel over the top of…

Hello all. This ones just a curio and you'd probably think why even consider it but I'll ask anyway. Is it possible to but a Sammy Miller b40 tank or a similar retro tank on a Ty frame. Its just I love the look of the pre 60's. Iam legal on the road with mine and i'd like to vintagify it, alloy mudguards and a few other diddy things. I have banged me head a few times in the woods so maybe thats my excuse. Cheers Squid.

Anyone know if a spring compressor type tool is available for monoshock springs, car ones are too big, spent the last hour scratching my head - every idea i've come up with just compresses the damper rod as well as the spring - need some way to isolate the the compression to the spring only. Any tricks of the trade?? Thanks

  7. My TY175 is currently running 52 teeth rear and 13 teeth front. 4:1 ratio. I know standard is 51/13. I am happy with how the bike goes for the type of riding I do (twinshock trials). My sprockets are getting near the end and I am wondering if I replace them with a 48 teeth rear and 12 teeth front (still 4:1 ratio) will the shorter chain and wheelbase make any noticeable difference? My guess is that the few links less in the chain won't be noticeable? Shorter wheelbase may affect things but how? Sprocket wear will be greater due to less teeth to share the work? Is a 48T available anyway? What are you running on yours? Am I over thinking this? Comments, advice, et…

Hello I'd like to upgrade my standard 1976 Ty 125. The original Rayer upgrade kit is very hard to come by but he still produces a kit for a DTMX. Has anybody out there bought and used this one? P.S took the diddy girl out at the weekend for a mooch in the woods and she's behaving well, I love it but would love a bit more grunt. Thanks Squid.

Hey everyone this is my first post so I hope I am in the right area. I just recently acquired my TY80 that my Dad bought for my sister and I when we were kids. It has been well over 12 years since it has been touched so I don't really know where to begin to get it started again. I don't even know the proper mix of fuel/oil I would need to run it. I lack the knowledge and tools to tear into it. Thought about taking it to a dealer but don't want to fork out too much cash for something I possibly can do myself. Here are a couple pics of my bike. A little beat up from me wrecking a couple times but not too bad of shape. Not even sure of the year but from others I have seen si…

Hi, what is the status of this Yamaha TYS250F that was being used in the WTC Japan round, see: Looks surely like the discontinued Scorpa 250F but why would current WTC contenders be using such an "old" machine? Or is Yamaha readying it for sale as a Yamaha now that Scorpa dropped Yamaha engines? Cheers, Fons. ----- Yamaha TY250Z Beamish RL325 Montesa 348 MR Honda TL250

  13. I know i'm becoming a bit of a pain with questions about this TY "project" but if you dont ask etc etc There seems to be a few people offering the replacement front pipes, i've decided to use the WES middle and end, in chrome. Now i gather they are smaller diameter than the original one. Is this a problem? Does the engine suffer at the top end ? I know the pipe may even help with low down torque but does it allow the engine to breathe properly? I will be converting to 320cc in the near future so am a bit concerned. What has been the experience of the panel

Hi, I've just bought my son a TY80. The clutch is pretty heavy, I can work it fine with adult hands but his younger fingers aren't strong enough to cope! I've seen in some sellers adverts for these bikes that clutch modifications have been made to make the clutch much lighter. Any one out there able to telle me these mods are or how to make the clutch lighter to use in anyway? Thanks for any help.

Has anyone eny experience of the aftermarket disc brake kit sold for the TY monos - the one which uses the original drum braked forks? It appears to be a Grimerca or Brembo Calliper & Grimerca master cylinder. Is the brake any better than the original drum and is the set-up any lighter? Gordon

Is anyone using the TY-Trials footpeg lowering kits for either TY175 or TY250? How do they compare with the SM ones?

  20. Hi I would really appreciate a few pointers to help me figure out what to try next Got standard TY 250 Mono which was running fine (albeit it was always a bit hard to start from cold) It ran out of fuel and now I cant get a cheep out of it I've stripped and cleaned all the carb jets a couple of times - all clear. Float etc all seems OK Emptied the tank and put new fresh fuel in it (I've done this twice - the current fuel doesnt even have any 2 stroke to see if it helps starting Fitted a new spark plug Getting a consistent blue spark when kicking it over Fuel is getting to the spark plug Compression seems fine Given that it was running fine I'm reluctant to sta…
