Afternoon Ive been trying to date a Ty80, but im having no luck with it as most yamaha databases are asking for 17 digit serial and the 9 digit ones a pretty vague 451-104... 451 - ty80 a(b ) 104024 - no idea how to get a date out of that Any help welcomed. Cheers John

  3. So it came out like you all said, WD-40, a mallet and a little patience. I have to be honest, the barrel and piston look to be in GREAT shape. . . i think. Ive added a couple pics of the piston and i'll do the same when I clean out the barrel. How's it look to you guys?? So whats next? I wasnt able to get the crank shaft moving?? Could the bottom end be siezed also? How can I check? If I can get the crank to move up and down, im going to be REAL excited! So any advice on where to go next? How can I get the crank to move? Turn the wheel? Kick start wouldn't move it. . . Piston pics, any thoughts? Im going to shop for new rings, piston and all that Jazz pretty …

Hi All, I looking to refurb my very tired TY250 twinshock and would like to explore a Majesty type frame mod. A few years ago I spoke to someone at Telford who carried such work, but the for the life of me I can't recall his details. Has anyone got any ideas or contacts? Thanks

  5. I have a 74 model 250A serial number 434-011251 and I need the shop manual for it. That's the downside. Now the good side is that I also have a 1975 B model shop manual if anybody needs one.? Maybe we can trade? I have been using the info from the B model shop manual to do all a the tune up and work on the ignition (Magneto and Points/condenser) up to a point. I checked out the schematic for the B model and it seems to have a couple of things different about it that I can't find or explain on my A model. #1 There is NO DIODE in my wiring harness now. ( at least I can't find one) I don't know if it has been removed, or it never had one? Norm…

  8. My new project is a 74 TY 250. I thought the skid plate on it was one of the fiberglass/plastic stock ones but when I took it off it turned out to be a cast aluminum one. I have saw stamped alloy ones but never cast. It has some embossed lettering that says J & M PLATES with Yamaha under that. Have any of you TY gurus seen these?

I ride a modern Trials bike and want to get a TY to ride and set up our vintage sections. I found a 175 that has some mods done and looks pretty good. But the owner has a couple 250's that are not as nice. He put the 250 wheels and tires on the 175 because the tires where nice Michelin's and cut a spacer to line things up. This also means that it now has a dished sprocket on it. My questions are things like, are they heavier ? will the dished sprockets get hard to get in the future ? Is this something anybody else has done. I think it is silly he did it. maybe the spokes and rims are better or something else. but should I skip it or not be worried. I know …

Hello, I've owed a modern trials bike for a few years now, but just recently got bitten by the "Twin Shock" bug. I bought a '76 TY175, and the stock tank is dented and has a lot of rust inside, so I was thinking about purchasing a fiberglass tank to replace it with. I've seen the tank/seat unit that Sammy Miller sells, but I was wanting something a little different. So, my question is; can anyone tell me if the tank/seat unit that Yamaha-Majesty.com sells to fit the Mini Majesty and 200 Majesty frames, will fit a production model frame? I have the tools and abilty to modify the frame if need be. Thanks, Gary

hello, well, my rattly old ty is not rattly anymore, having been rebuilt with a relined cylinder, wossner piston, new rod, big end and mains etc. the timing is spot on. the jetting is less spot on (work in progress) not sure if this is a new thing, or if the bike always did it - but didnt notice because of the bad rattles it made before - but on over run, it makes a sort of 'dongk, dongk, dongk' noise .................. I have read about the 'pipe bang' problem (on usa sites mainly). is this normal for a ty? pjme did all the machine work and the bike was put together properly - otherwise its all fine. thoughts appreciated.

Hello, the chain and sprockets finally gave up the ghost so I fitted new matching 12/51 and a 428 chain. the chain has the same number of links as the old (stretched) one, but even on the longest adjustment, the chain seems tight to me. the old set up saw the tensioner rubber resting on the swingarm, whereas now, the gap is forefinger thickness. This seems the norm from what google images tells me, but to me it seems really tight, but it seems to ride better. I am used to enduro bikes, where the chain hangs like the proverbial hammock. what do you do and is the forefinger gap about right? I dont want to bust the gearbox! cheers Andrew

Hello, I just bought a standard piston kit for my ty 250 88, but after trying to fit it I realised it was too big the piston is 70mm, but the bore on my cylinder is 67mm is there anywhere that sells a 67mm piston? I can’t seem to find it anywhere thanks, Dan

  16. My right side crankcase cover needs to be replaced. I've had it repaired but it still leaks at the kick starter shaft and I think that the problem is mis alignment from prior repairs. I've noticed on e-bay that these covers are cheap for the 175/125 enduros (CT/AT models)....and expensive for the TY's...How interchangeable are these covers. They look the same to me. Unfortunately when you buy something off of e-bay you don't have the option of physically comparing the pieces. If any of you have experience using alternative side case covers, please share you knowledge with me. Thanks Miguel

Sorry if its been mentioned before. I have modified some yokes in the past to move the handle bars forward but I have just fitted some nice TY250 forks and Yokes to my 175. I didn't want to cut up the yokes like I did before so I thought I would try some Rox Risers. I like the extra height and adjustment that they give you. Just thought I would give it a mention for those people seeking some extra bar height

I'm converting my TY175 to pre-mix. If I remove the Autolube pump do I have to block the hole on the end of the worm gear (attached to the crank I think?)? Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Any advice/tips/info etc greatly appreciated. Thanks.
